    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Love this place

A great campground in Ohio. So clean and so many things to do. Campsites are close together but they do honor quiet hours. Great trail around the lake and a fun and challenging disc golf course.

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Best weekend camping

We will definitely be going back! Campground is on the lake and is beautiful! So many things to do! The camp is clean, has a playground, and movie night. Bath house is a typical campground bath house. We had a tent site and it was huge! Sites come with fire pit and picnic table. Beach is within walking distance of campsite.

Guide to Spencer

Spencer, Ohio sits in Medina County with elevations around 1,100 feet above sea level. The area experiences four distinct seasons with warm summers reaching the mid-80s and cold winters that often drop below freezing. Camping options near Spencer range from primitive tent sites to luxury glamping accommodations, with many campgrounds remaining open from April through October due to the region's seasonal climate patterns.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At American Wilderness Campground, campers enjoy well-stocked fishing areas. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," shares Jessica J.

Water activities: Numerous campgrounds offer water recreation beyond swimming beaches. "We loved the vibe here and the campground is nice and quiet and the clean restrooms and shower house was a plus we had a good time taking the kids to the arcade," notes Luis G. about American Wilderness.

Outdoor recreation: Mohican State Park Campground provides extensive trail systems for hikers and nature enthusiasts. "Lots of hiking trails and waterfalls. Free hike-in camping available here too," says Nicole K. The park maintains year-round accessibility with heated facilities during winter months.

Local attractions: Position yourself near regional points of interest. "We were in the area for medical visits in Cleveland. This spot was convenient and a great location to do a little sightseeing," notes Sharon J. about camping options that serve as bases for exploring northern Ohio.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention facility cleanliness as a priority. At Indian Trail Campground, "Nice campground clean restrooms. Didn't use the showers since we had full hook up. Swimming Pool and trails to ride the golf cart. Activities on the weekends," reports Dawn S.

Family-focused amenities: Many glamping locations near Spencer feature child-friendly environments. "Large campground with a nice mix of seasonal and overnighters. Clean common areas. Nice pool, camp store on site with a nice selection of camp gear. Snack bar with pizza, ice cream etc. Tons of planned activities for the kids," writes Kathryn P. about Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park.

Waterfront sites: Charles Mill Lake Park Campground offers premium lakeside camping. "I love this place! Just had my second visit and can't wait to go back. Water view on both sides and sites are nice sized and not right on top of each other," explains Danielle T. These sites provide direct lake access for fishing and water activities.

What you should know

Seasonal variations: Most glamping accommodations near Spencer operate on limited schedules. "We stayed during the week so it wasn't as busy and they didn't have as many activities," reports Renee L. about camping in the region during off-peak times.

Site selection matters: Choose sites strategically based on amenities and location within larger campgrounds. "The key is site selection at East Harbor...we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park. Section C was nice, though in hot sunny days there is very little shade to protect you," advises Mark S. about East Harbor State Park Campground.

Reservation requirements: Peak season demands advance planning. "We had a pull through site which was gravel. The staff is friendly and the indoor pool and shower houses were amazing. The sites seemed a little small so it might feel crowded during peak season," notes Renee L. about Mohican Adventures Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Schedule around organized camp events. "We had a nice fire roasting s'mores the atmosphere is so clean and nice we had a easy check in and we got to enter a chili cook off the food and vibes was fun we camp here seasonal and love it," shares Cassie V. about her experience at American Wilderness.

Multi-generational options: Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins provides accommodations for various comfort levels. "We tent camped and had a private spot in the woods which we loved. The campgrounds covers all the basics. We fished and swam in the indoor pool which was not heated at the time," reports Lo H.

Weather considerations: Prepare for variable conditions. "Nice clean campground with lots of activities and also amenities the bathrooms and shower house were clean as well felt so comfortable made lots of friends," says John C. about facilities that remain usable during inclement weather.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Assess utility needs before booking. "We stayed in the primitive area and it was just ok. Only a port o potty was available in that area but you could walk to a different area for restrooms and showers. I think if you paid for a seasonal site, your experience would be much better," advises Greg A. about American Wilderness.

Site leveling: Many campgrounds require additional equipment. "The sites are mostly level but are short & close to each other. Roads are narrow & hilly," notes Kathy C. about camping at Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, highlighting the need for leveling blocks in some locations.

Seasonal amenities: RVers should verify which facilities remain operational during their visit. "Outside of the park. Nearly $1000.00 more. Oh, and while you can't have decks or your own sheds- you can pay an extra $500 to keep your golf cart," mentions Lynn W. about additional costs for seasonal campers at some locations.
