Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Wonderfully updated!

This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking! We love camping here every chance we get! It is convenient to the turnpike and Cedar Point is just a few miles away!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wonderful State Park

I really wish this place was back in Illinois. We stopped here on our way back from Virginia Beach. it was the most affordable stop we made and had amenities that we usually have to pay top dollar for. They had a fantastic shower house with individual locking rooms, bathrooms were very clean and they even had Laundry on site. The front desk was very helpful and gave us some ideas of things to do. I was surprised they had a decent camp store with affordable pricing. The night we arrived they had an Ice Cream social with huge cups overfilled which made the kids super happy and only $1. I believe this was set up by a volunteer committee which also had an outside movie planned for the evening. Nice quiet sites, (ours was lakeaIde vIew) which were wooded and very dark at night. They also had a modern play set area and volleyball which was utilized the entire visit. AND they had a beach with wonderful trails all through out. If I end up traveling East again, this will be on our list of stops for sure.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Full of spirit!

Site 28 was not very big, but with our small camper, it worked out great. There was a tree (masting at the time and dropping nuts, be prepared) to provide a little shade. The pad was short and if you had a slide out it may not get to open because of the tree. We were just a short ways from the playground and a shower house and not far from the camp store. The shower houses are great and kept clean. There are family showers and separate bathrooms. They even have laundry facilities and very nice outdoor sinks to use. It's a large campground and can be very busy, but everyone was polite and aware of the kids riding bikes around. They were getting ready for the Halloween - decorations were every where! Lots of places to walk around the campground and also has a beach where you can swim.

    Punderson State Park Campground

Nice camp but services need updated

Nice park, facilities seem clean, my only issues are with the electric hook up not being at least 30 amp for a travel trailer and the sanitation/dump only has one hose for black tank flush and other cleaning necessary for the two stations also bring a water hose with you if you are planning on running water for your fresh tank

Guide to Cleveland

The Cleveland area offers several glamping structures within easy access to both forest trails and local attractions. Located in northeastern Ohio along Lake Erie's south shore, this region experiences warm, humid summers and cool winters with lake-effect snow. Most luxury camping options near Cleveland are open from late April through October, with some sites requiring reservations up to six months in advance.

What to do

Outdoor water activities: Punderson State Park Campground provides guests with boat rentals, a swimming beach, and fishing opportunities. One visitor mentions, "Beautiful scenery, very large park, fishing, boat rentals, man made beach, loooong floating boardwalk, lots of trails, unique sites and tons of history."

Recreation beyond swimming: At West Branch State Park Campground, campers access numerous activities. "The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers... There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend."

Proximity to attractions: Many glamping sites serve as convenient bases for visiting regional highlights. The Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA offers "great proximity to both [Cleveland Guardians games] and Cuyahoga National Park." Another camper noted they "wanted to hike in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The staff was friendly, the amenities were clean, and the campground was quite serene."

What campers like

Private glamping sites: Many campers appreciate the separation between units at American Wilderness Campground. As one reviewer noted, "We had a nice time the place was clean and the people were nice as in other campers we had a good time we went to the pavilion to a get together."

Clean facilities: Glamping near Cleveland often includes access to well-maintained bathrooms. At Punderson State Park Campground, you'll find "the bathrooms and shower houses are the older style but have been kept clean the whole weekend."

Family-friendly environments: Woodside Lake Park creates spaces for family activities. One camper explains, "We stay here a couple of times per year and every time it's a blast. The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities."

What you should know

Site variations: Many glamping locations have significantly different site options. At Countryside Campground, "We stayed at site #10. Was level side to side, lots are pretty tight in that area. Advice - get there early or you'll have many vehicles and campers to watch for as you back in!"

Booking windows: Reservations for premium glamping spots fill quickly. For West Branch State Park, one camper advises, "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!"

Seasonal considerations: Most luxury camping options operate between spring and fall. Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA is open "May 1 to October 15," while other sites may extend slightly later into autumn depending on weather conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Children enjoy the structured entertainment at luxury camping spots. American Wilderness provides "fun activities and staff are pleasant as well."

Varied accommodation options: For families wanting different glamping experiences, options range from cabins to safari tents. Headwaters Park offers a unique option where "Site G is an open lean-to with a stone fireplace facing the inside of the three-sided wooden structure."

Quiet hours: Sound carries between sites at most locations. One camper at Headwaters Park noted, "The noise carries from other sites so, your neighbors will make or break how well you sleep here."

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Some Cleveland-area glamping sites with RV options require additional equipment. At West Branch State Park, "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground."

Hookup variations: Check what utilities are available before booking. A camper at Punderson State Park reported, "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service."

Site selection strategy: RVers recommend researching specific sites before booking. One Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA visitor explained, "We always ask for deluxe sites because we travel with 2 dogs and must like having the extra space. This KOA did not let us down."
