Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake offers pet-friendly camping with spacious sites and convenient access to two lakes in Jefferson, Ohio. Pets are welcome throughout the campground which accommodates tents, RVs, and cabins with 30 and 50 amp full hookup options. Kenisee's Grand River Campground in Geneva provides another pet-friendly option with multiple fishing ponds, clean facilities, and gated entry for added security. Both campgrounds maintain clean bathroom facilities and shower houses, important considerations for campers with dogs. The swimming pond at MillBrook Resort offers a refreshing option after hiking with dogs on warm days.

Dogs enjoy access to the fenced dog park at Willow Lake Campground, complete with climbing apparatus, a fire hydrant, and lush grass areas with shaded spots for owners to relax while pets play. Camping sites at Willow Lake feature a range of surfaces and spacious layouts ideal for campers with pets. Geneva State Park and Indian Creek RV Resort provide additional pet-friendly options near Lake Erie, with Indian Creek offering mini-golf and an ice cream stand that welcomes leashed dogs. Most campgrounds in the area enforce standard pet policies including leash requirements, waste cleanup, and restrictions on leaving pets unattended. The temperate summer months provide ideal conditions for camping with dogs, though the Jefferson area experiences seasonal temperature variations that pet owners should consider when planning visits.

      Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

      Goddard Park Vacationland Campground

      Near Beautiful Lake Wilhelm

Nice park with very friendly staff. My only complaint is the sites are way too crowded. Also a little uneven. I love that this park is close to Lake Wilhelm & Goddard State Park for fishing and bike riding. 2 pools and a dog park.

      West Branch State Park Campground

      Great Site

My wife, 2 dogs, and I came with no reservation. They gave us a temporary tag to drive around and see what site we wanted. We ended up going to site 190 which had a decent amount of space to tent camp. The amenities were great. Clean shower and toilets in a well lit building.  There is also a dog park with a pond 2 minutes up the road which was great to wear the dogs out at. The only complaint I have is the site was a little close to our neighbor for our liking but we would go back!

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

      Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

      Great state park

Nice shower and bathrooms for a state park.

I didn't like that pets are not allowed in the non-pet area as that was where the playground and swimming beach was. Made it difficult to swim and play as a family since you can't leave dogs alone at the campsite. I wouldn't bring my dog next time to this campground. There are other more dog friendly places.

Very nice areas for walking, kayaking, swimming, and playground.

      Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

      West Branch State Park Campground

      No Complaints

The campground was nice, clean and had friendly faces. There is plenty to do-disc golf, sand volleyball, basketball, playground, dog park, not to mention the lake and beaches. There were a lot of dogs the weekend I went but nothing to complain about. Fire pit was nice and functional and the bathrooms were clean. The showers are private in your own “room”separate from the toilets. My favorite feature of the campground is the wash basins outside of the bathrooms to wash your dishes. Very nice amenity when tent camping. Our site was private enough, good sized with close bathroom access.

    Guide to Jefferson

Jefferson, Ohio camping areas sit within the temperate Great Lakes climate zone with average summer temperatures of 75-85°F. Located near Lake Erie at around 800 feet elevation, the area experiences distinct seasonal changes with July and August offering optimal camping conditions. The region's glacial terrain features numerous lakes and ponds that provide multiple fishing and boating opportunities.

    What to do

Lake activities at Geneva State Park: The park offers swimming access along its sandy beach with conditions similar to ocean swimming. Campers can explore Lake Erie via multiple boat options. "Archery range on site. The cabins have the best water views. The other campsites (tent & RV) are semi-wooded," notes Justin S. from Geneva State Park Campground.

Bike trail exploration: Several campgrounds connect to dedicated bike paths that lead to nearby attractions. Linda R. mentions Geneva State Park has "bike trails leading all the way in to Geneva By the Lake where you will find entertainment for the family." At Geneva State Park Campground, Bran P. adds, "We rode our bikes to town one night for dinner and ate outside at Eddie's Diner."

Fishing across multiple lakes: The Pymatuning Lake region offers extensive fishing opportunities with designated cleaning stations. "There is a campground fish cleaning station with complimentary fridges/freezers," reports Britt B., who visited Linesville Campground. According to Chelsea K., the campground provides "a long weekend of fishing and kayaking. Showers, restrooms and fish cleaning station are always clean."

    What campers like

Boat access from campsites: Many campgrounds feature direct water access for personal watercraft. At Jamestown Campground, Leah L. notes, "We took our bikes to Meadville to do the Ernst bike trail (recommended - a paved, flat, easy 6.3 mile cycling trail through the woods and along the river)." The area provides numerous options for kayaking, with Patience W. recommending, "If you are looking to stay at a small state park campground and bring your boat near your site or launch your canoe and paddle board look no further."

Dog-friendly facilities: The region offers numerous pet friendly camping options near Jefferson, Ohio with dedicated dog amenities. Willow Lake Campground features a specialized dog area that lorie describes as "a dog park that is fenced in, no bare spots (all grass), a rock and other apparatus for dogs to climb and they even have a fire hydrant! Plus two shady spots under trees for adults to sit and relax."

Secure camping environments: Several campgrounds implement security measures to enhance visitor comfort. Darrel and Mary W. describe Geneva State Park as a "Nice campground within walking distance to Lake Erie. Nice facilities. Quiet and a lot of friendly campers." Kenisee's Grand River Campground adds additional security through "Gated entry with provided code after payment given," according to Mary Elisabeth D.

    What you should know

Campsite selection considerations: Site quality varies significantly across campgrounds with differences in privacy, accessibility and hookup options. Casey L. from Jamestown Campground warns, "We booked a waterfront site and were disappointed to learn that was not actually the case. There was a little bit of a swampy area behind us but the lake was further away."

Connectivity issues: Cell service and internet access can be limited in certain areas. At MillBrook Resort, Robert L. reports, "The first time I connected to the internet at our site, it connected right away with good quality. For about 30 seconds. I never got internet at our site again. It is good in the game room by the office, but there isn't anywhere with air conditioning to sit. AT&T has one bar of signal."

Lake swimming options: Beach quality and swimming areas differ between locations. Rebecca A. notes that Geneva State Park "is near access to Lake Erie, which was very nice! The campground has nice spots, but they aren't very secluded/private." Regarding Pymatuning State Park, traci T. warns about the "small beach, size of someones swimming pool... need a boat for best fish experience."

    Tips for camping with families

Seasonal activities programming: Many campgrounds run structured activities during peak season. Kenisee's Grand River Campground provides extensive programming according to Kent R.: "It's a great place with a lot of events and entertainment for family's. Multiple fishing ponds, Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities."

Playground accessibility: Family-friendly campgrounds offer recreation areas for children. Jennifer L. recommends specific sites at Pymatuning State Park: "We stayed in section 2, site 82 which had a direct view of the lake and was close to the bathhouse and restroom. If you have younger kids, this site is for you. The playground is right there as is the beach."

Pet restrictions at play areas: Not all family amenities allow pets. Jeani B. cautions about Pymatuning, "I didn't like that pets are not allowed in the non-pet area as that was where the playground and swimming beach was. Made it difficult to swim and play as a family since you can't leave dogs alone at the campsite."

    Tips from RVers

Site surface variations: RV sites feature different pad materials affecting stability and comfort. Kimberly H. shares about Willow Lake, "The first time back in 2020 we paid for the cement pad spots and had zero issues. There aren't any shade trees near the cement pad sites but the sites themselves are immaculate. This Labor Day weekend we stayed in a pull thru gravel spot. Minimal effort to get leveled and set up."

Nighttime visibility challenges: Site markings may be difficult to see after dark. Lisa B. notes at Pymatuning State Park, "We got in after dark and ALL the numbers for the electric sites are posted in non-reflective lettering. We couldn't find our spot."

Hookup configurations: RV campers should check specific hookup arrangements before booking. Mary Elisabeth D. found at Kenisee's Grand River Campground that "We arrived after dark and had a little trouble finding our spot. Only because it was too easy, lol. We had site 12, which was upfront near the office, showers etc. Great location if your staying more than a few hours."
