  Private but needs updates

  I thought I read someplace that there is new ownership, at any rate the folks there were very nice. And the place lives up to its name. We’re not fond of RV parking lots and the sites were well spaced which gets it many extra points. We had a popup in a drive-through site at the bottom of the hill which was fine, though pretty muddy after a day of rain. With that hill there’s no place for larger RVs here unless they were to decide to use the field at the bottom. As far as infrastructure a lot of what is here is very old and dated, sometimes to the point of being comical, but it does appear some updates are happening. Bathroom building is decent and kept very clean (though it would be nice if any of the door latches on the women’s toilets worked.) It appears they have built or rebuilt some cabins. Hiking up and down the hill to the bathroom does get old and there is really no place to park there like most places have without blocking the road. Can squeeze in one car near the (ancient and yucky cold water) dishwashing station. There is a tiny campsite with cabin on the road below it, with a firepit and table like a foot away from the road. Maybe they should eliminate that site to make parking for a couple cars at least, as its a terrible campsite probably the only bad one there. (One night that site had 2 cars, with one blocking the road when we tried to drive past - they should have made the extra car stay down in the lot.) People moved their car a bit, but still had to drive very close to their bonfire. Like much of the area, there is essentially no cell coverage here. An area with wifi would be an excellent upgrade. I know, you’re camping, but sometimes you just need to do something, make a restaurant reservation, or check the weather.

  Update- I just found and read an article about the change of ownership. Showed a picture of a recreation room. Where the heck was that? In the building labeled “the Barn?” Which I thought was an actual barn and off limits. The dyrt says there is wifi, maybe it was there? Would have been nice to know about.

  Dingman's Family Campground

  One of the nicest campgrounds!

  Absolutely loved this campground, sites are well spaced and the surrounding area is gorgeous! We had a tent site right on the river and couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table. Facilities were exceptionally clean and the camp store was stunning!

  Primitive camping with a great host!

  I came up here with my dog for a solo camping trip for a couple of days to get away! Rich the host is super nice and answered any questions I had about staying/getting there. I had the whole camp ground to myself so that was even better. It is definitely off the beaten path but we'll worth it if your just trying to escape a little bit. But Verizon does get service. There are some nearby trails that are within 15 minutes of the camp ground which is also a plus. No need to bring Fire wood as there is a ton all around you. You can also buy from the host as well. There was a decent portapotty on the camp ground which is very nice to have. This was just what we needed. We really loved our stay and cant wait to go back! Thank you Rich!

  Worst Campground We Have Ever Been To

  Absolute worst campground we have ever been to(and we do a TON of camping in state parks both in NY and out of state and private campgrounds as well). When we arrived our site was covered in trash and the picnic table was in the site next to ours with old propane tanks sitting on them. Beer bottle caps and cigarette ends were EVERYWHERE on our site, crushed cans and bottles scattered around, tons of garbage throughout the site(plastic spoons, cardboard pieces, plastic wrappers, a huge metal pipe, etc.) We spent the first half hour there cleaning up all the trash on our site and we didn't even get it all. All of the sites next to us had just as much trash in them as well and were never cleaned up the duration of our stay either. When walking around we noticed tons of other sites with garbage left in them too. I don't think any of the sites are checked after checkout and if they are they are definitely not cleaned up at all after check out. We stayed on the'other side of the road' and the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting and falling apart. They were never cleaned at all during our stay(although we seen workers sitting in the golf cart goofing around and talking several times instead of actually cleaning the bathrooms). The only thing the workers did was add toilet paper(and not even enough because there were several times we went and there was no toilet paper). We were there 5 nights and the trash can wasn't emptied once and none of the garbage or toilet paper on the floor was ever picked up. There was also poop smeared across the wall and door in the one stall and poop all over one of the other toilets that was like that our whole stay as well. Mirror was literally tapped together with black tape, there was only one faucet handle and locks on the stall were broken. We had to go across the street into the other side of the campground to shower and the showers were absolutely disgusting. Black mold covered the shower curtains, was all in the lights and on the lower and higher sections of walls and it smelled like mildew. It was gross and cannot possibly be safe. This is definitely a party campground and no quiet hours are enforced. People were up partying, drinking and blasting music literally all night. It's such a shame because the location of this campground is amazing and it has the potential to be a great campground but we will never go back. We have never been to any campground this dirty, unkempt and with workers who literally just don't care or do their jobs. Such a disappointment. Wish I had seen all the other bad reviews before going.

  Woodford State Park Campground

  3 night getaway

  Had a pleasant stay at Woodford State Park. Sites near T38 have a great elevated view of the reservoir. Also a nice loop trail for those looking to do a little bit of hiking.

  It’s a party camp ground

  Do you enjoy staying up until sunrise, underage drinking, staff that don’t give AF, and rules that don’t matter? Then this is the state park for you! I wanted to give the park a try even with all the bad reviews, because the location is awesome. Now I realize the views are not worth it if you’re sleep deprived. I thought since it was a not a holiday weekend it wouldn’t be that bad, I was wrong. If you still plan on coming, I’d avoid the first week in August. Some garbage family from New Jersey rents out a bunch of sites and gives their teenagers their own site, because they hate them too. All in all, it was not a good time. There are plenty of other parks around if you want to actually enjoy camping. This one isn’t it. 10/10 would not recommend 👎

  A Shell of Its Former Self

  Highlights of the trip included a somewhat secluded site by the river, pavilion tater tots and the pool. This campground was once thriving with activities and events and a real sense of community. Now, it seems hollow and unkept. Bathrooms and Showers were filthy.

  Beautiful sites of Lake George

  This campground is the northwest side of the lake. There are not many amenities or services for the phones but that could be good if you want an off the grid type of camping. We were lucky enough to score a few days in one of the group sites. They had a bathroom with just a potty & sink. At the end of the site, they had water that was able to be used to clean dishes but not consume. The views out the camper were just amazing. The bathroom with the showers by the beaches were gross, and the amount of crap on the ground was super unacceptable, like people haven't cleaned it in weeks. The showers up closer to the sites were very nice and clean. They have a cool beach but make sure to bring water shoes because everything is gravel. I wish they had a playground for kids to play. We brought bikes but it was very hard to ride with the hills and gravel so we didn't use then often. We moored our boat directly out from out site and you could swim out to it. Great lake, super clean, beautiful breeze can't wait to go back.

  Family oriented. The kids loved love water attractions. Our site was large and shaded. The draw back is where you need to park the camper is about 7 inches out of level. If we stay in the same site again we would come better prepared.

  Moose Hillock Camping Resorts

  Nothing special

  The good: large, spacious, private sites that are all fairly level and all about the same size. Beautiful pool with 2 water slides, arcade, and cafe that wasn’t opened during the week but will be starting July 1. Clean facilities. Store was fairly well stocked with things you might’ve forgot to pack. Staff was nice.
  The not so good: lots of rules and charges for every little thing, our walkie talkies picked up on staff conversations and we heard they wanted to charge a family a guest fee for a delivery driver if he was on site more than 15 minutes, Showers cost money at $0.25 per 4 minutes, no wifi at all and poor cell reception, pool is NOT heated as they state all over their website, trash is not picked up, no activities or anything to do other than swim. Far from downtown Lake George and no trolley service, charges for early arrival regardless of whether sites is available or not and you can’t sit in their parking arrival area and wait. I would not choose this campground again. It wasn’t horrible. There is so much more they could offer for their resort prices that they charge. Drove through Lake George RV resort on Rt. 149 and I think I’d choose that campground next time. Check out the boats you ride on Lake George! The Adirondack is dog friendly! Get the coupon at the arcade for $3 off the $25 cost. Frontier Town gift shop on Rt 9 with the big teepee out front had great selection of stuff for good prices. Northway Brewing was fun with good beer!

  Woodford State Park Campground

  beautiful campground

  This is a very nice campground.

  We stayed in site 64 which is set back more than 2 car lengths from the road and is pretty well surrounded with trees so it feels very private and secluded. Could see one neighboring site slightly through the trees but that neighboring site was lower down so it still felt private. It was a good sized site. Not sure if we could hear any noise from route 9 or not. If we did, it was very faint and did not disturb us.

  Site 64 is across the road from a water spigot and the path to the bathrooms/showers. It was very convenient and we didn't feel like we were right by the bathrooms (no compromise to our site's privacy, no noise, etc). Our site wasn't waterfront but wasn't far from path down to reservoir.

  The bathrooms are BEAUTIFUL! the nicest I've seen yet. Very clean, well stocked with toilet paper and soap- convenient shelf and hooks for toiletries/towels.

  The showers are beautiful as well. There are 3 individual shower rooms that lock. Each one has a bench/chair and hooks to hang towels etc. There is also a small shelf in the actual shower for soap. 

  NEW for 2024: the showers do not accept quarters anymore. You need to buy tokens from the campground. It is 1 token for 5 minutes and it is 50 cents a token. The issue we encountered was that apparently people still try to put in quarters and this jams the machine. Therefore, when we put in our tokens, though we thought everything worked fine, in fact the machine did not register the tokens and we were left taking ice cold showers. When we told the office in the morning, they explained the issue and said that had we called them they could have fixed the shower. They are going to try to put some guard over the slot to prevent quarters from going in. Hopefully, this is implemented soon. They were very apologetic and gave us new tokens to replace the ones we had lost on cold showers.

  The office sells wood for $6 a bundle and you can get free kindling from their leftover cuttings/sweepings. They also sell ice and some "merch"/"swag".

  We really enjoyed our stay here.

  Unsafe and stressful environment

  I'm very upset with the fact that I have to be writing this review, as I've been going to Rogers Rock Campground with my family since I was a baby(and I'm now 24). But- this year was an absolute disgrace and NYS nor the campground did anything about it. My family and I will never be going back there due to our terrible experience this year. Incident#1: The campground used to have a grounds keeper or a trooper who would drive around to make sure that campers were safe and following the quiet hours at night time, to be respectful of all of the campers in tents. This year, they had neither. This was a huge issue because the campers next to us were partying(extremely loud) until 5:30 a.m. in the morning... I wish I was exaggerating. We could not fall asleep and telling them to please be quiet ourselves only made it worse as they were disrespectful people who told us to screw off. Back in the day, they would've been kicked out of the campground after 2 warnings if they were loud during quiet hours. This happened 2 nights in a row(Friday and Saturday night) which completely ruined our trip since we were forced to sleep during the day due to how exhausted we were. I very nicely expressed how upset we were after Friday night, and the campground said they would come around to tell them to be quiet going forward. I'm not sure if they did, but Saturday night was the same- and when I went up to the front around 12:30 a.m. to let them know they were still making noise, no one was there. There was a sign to call a non emergency line to reach the campground off-hours but no one even answered it. So, we had to deal with partying until 5:30 a.m. for a second night in a row. When we were checking out, I asked if we could please get a refund for those two nights/days since we were completely out of commission due to the campground failing to enforce their rules. We were met with dazed and confused looks, saying they would file a claim with the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation to see if we can get our refund processed. 2 weeks later, we received a letter stating"we are unable to offer refunds for events, decisions or circumstances that are beyond the Department's control" and signed by Jessica L. McBride, Campground Program Supervisor. So, they are telling me they have no control over enforcing their OWN campground rules...? Because they sure did every other past years we've been there! So, since receiving this letter- I am writing this as a warning to other families to not use this campground as they are understaffed and do not enforce their guidelines/ care about their paying campers. If people at the campground decide to party till 5 a.m., you are just going to have to deal with it. It's a free-for-all now. Incident#2: Saturday night around 2 a.m. while we were up due to the noisy campers next to us, we heard a very loud crash and bang(it was very scary) and noticed that a tree very close to one of the sites(with campers on it) had fallen down in the woods. The tree was so tall, that if it had fallen the opposite way, it would have hit those campers at that site(so extremely dangerous). Thank God it fell the opposite way. But after that, we were super freaked out and concerned. That's another thing the campground should and used to be doing- they would check all of the trees within the radius of the camp sites to make sure to take down any dead trees or trees that had potential of falling. But apparently, not anymore! While we were there, two trees fell(that one and another one right over the bridged entrance after the main bathrooms). So, just another example of it being a free-for-all campground with no safety protocols or services they promise being enforced. Just wanted to share my family's experience in the hopes that it may deter other families from dealing with what we had to deal with while we were there. There are so many campgrounds on LG, I would suggest to definitely find one that is safe and stress-free for your family! Cause Rogers Rock is the exact opposite of that, sadly.

  Medcalf Acres Riverfront Campground

  Very clean, pleasant staff and atmosphere

  I have been a seasonal camper for 7 years and there is just no better place than Medcalf Acres. The owner is very nice and accommodating and the staff, in particular Michael is always doing something to make the campground look better(cleaning, mowing and weed whacking) just to name a few. There is always something for the kids to do and the staff makes it fun for the kids. They have a heated swimming pool or you can float/swim in schroon river. There is Wi-Fi, cable, sewer, water and electric. You can’t find a better place for the money and the memories that are made.

  So quiet and comfortable!

  We decided last second to stay at this place and are so glad that we did! They were so friendly and the campground is very well kept. It was fairly full and still extremely quiet. Everyone we met was very friendly and easy going. The bathhouse, although nothing fancy, was extremely clean and well-maintained. The ice cream shop at the entrance was a huge bonus. We both ordered a small and it was near enough to consider a full meal! A very pleasant stay!

  Great Sites and Pool, lacking in other areas

  Just returned from a week trip with two other families. We were all very excited to go here, it's been on our radar for a couple years now. Overall I would rate our stay there a 3.8 out of 5.

  Pro's - site size and privacy. For a private campground the sites are large and well spaced out. We stayed on a premium site which is larger than their standard.

  Cleanliness - all parts of the park were very cleaning. Bath houses were well kept.

  The Pool- this is their best feature and is basis of most of their marketing material. Kids absolutely loved it and we spent several days poolside.

  Cons- lack of activities, outside of the swimming pool there was not much going on during the day. For the price of this place we expected a packed schedule of activities. They had some stuff, but mostly just one thing in the morning and then something in the evening.

  Not very kid bike friendly- Maybe the loop we were in just wasn't the best for kids. The hill was steep along with a loose gravel surface made it tough for younger riders to enjoy themselves.

  Office staff could use a few courses in customer service. The last thing a customer that just spent $2500- for a week of camping with extras, (plus camping with two other families) wants to hear is a regurgitation of policy over a single $20- wristband for the pool. Ultimately, a manger did rectify our concern as the pool closed due to thunder about 30 min after the pass was purchased. We asked to get the pass for the next day instead and it was huge issue. It wasn't even about the money, more a matter of principle and how the request was handled by the staff there. This incident alone put a sour taste in our mouth.

  In the end it was an overall decent trip, although l will likely not return to a Moose Hillock location again.

  Half Moon Pond State Park Campground

  Small little park with plenty to do

  This park was a very pleasant surprise to us. The staff was very kind and accommodating. The park was clean and typical of all Vt. State Parks. The real surprise was the things to do at the park and close bye. Though Half Moon Pond is very small it offered a calm relaxing time on the water. We found several trails to hike at and near the park as well. Each site is separated with trees, offering some privacy and a greater sense of nature
