Stratton Pond Shelter

Stratton Pond tenting area is located along the Appalachian/Long Trail in southern Vermont. To access it, hike approximately 3.75 miles from the nearest parking lot. In winter conditions, this distance remains the same but may require additional preparation for snow and cold. The tenting area sits directly at the pond, making it a popular destination for backpackers traveling through this section of the Green Mountains.

Stratton Pond tenting area is located directly at Stratton Pond, featuring two tent platforms and immediate access to the water. Stratton View tenting area, as the name suggests, offers scenic views of Stratton Mountain but is situated at a different location along the trail system. Each area provides a distinct experience - Stratton Pond offers water proximity and shelter access, while Stratton View emphasizes mountain vistas. Hikers often choose between them based on their preference for water access versus panoramic views.

Stratton Pond shelter offers 16 bunk spaces inside the main structure, two tent platforms in the surrounding area, and two outhouses. The shelter is designed for backpackers and provides basic overnight accommodations. Water is available from Stratton Pond itself but should be filtered or treated. There are no electrical hookups, running water, or vehicle access to this backcountry shelter.

Camping at Stratton Pond requires adherence to backcountry regulations. Campers must use designated tent platforms or the shelter - no random camping is permitted. Pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles. During peak seasons, the Green Mountain Club may collect a small fee for overnight use. Campfires may be restricted, so portable stoves are recommended. Always check with the Green Mountain Club or the U.S. Forest Service for current regulations before your trip, especially during fire restriction seasons.
