      Entire Trip

We brought the kids and they found plenty to do. Between the pool, river and recreation area, they were pretty much entertained the entire trip.

      Elbow Pond Road Dispersed Site

Lovely Area Access Road Is A Speedway

We arrived on a Wednesday in early October with intentions of enjoying the foliage, which we did.  We found the campsites easily and the access road is in good condition so the local speed through all day long.

I am not sure how many sites there are, we took the first one we would fit into.  We travel with a Lance camper mounted on a Silverado.

My travel companions are cats and they are accustomed to the typical noises of RV life; truck stops, rest stops, neighboring campers and the occasional disrespectful loud jerks.  At this spot we were serenaded by gun fire.  I served in the military and grew up on a farm; guns don’t bother me in the least.  I think of range fire as the sound of freedom, however, this started at dawn and did not stop until after the sun went down.  The gunfire was so loud and consistent that the cats got spooked and took to hiding inside the camper.

We were going to stay for the weekend but left after our second night.

Not a bad spot (there is a small stream across the access road, not deep enough for true swimming but good enough for paddling around), surrounded by beautiful woods and no true neighbors, but between the never ending line of fast moving cars and the gun fire we decided to leave.

      Around The Fire

First time camping in this area and we really liked it. The pool kept the kids busy and we spent the evenings around the fire.

      Our Favorite Part

The Sugar River was our favorite part. We spent a good amount of time down by the water and the kids loved cooling off there.

      Maple Haven Campground

      Great Campground

Quiet campground experience. Very cheerful staff member. Ice Cream shop is a bonus. We found a secluded spot without reservations. Monday evening. Some sites are tight for larger RVs but our Class B Camper Van fit fine.

    What you should know

Winter access limitations: Most campgrounds near Sanbornton close seasonally. Paugus Bay Campground remains open year-round, while Meredith Woods provides winter camping with plowed roads. "Snow ploughing happens regularly and reliably," confirms Mara S.

Reservation requirements: Peak season (June-August) requires advance bookings. Most campgrounds recommend reservations 3-6 months ahead for summer weekends, especially for waterfront sites.

Site selection considerations at Clearwater Campground: The layout varies significantly between areas. "It was very crowded and the sites are close together and there were a lot of mosquitoes. However, every one was very considerate, the bathrooms and showers were clean," writes Paummi S. Request sites away from main roads for more privacy.

    Tips for camping with families

Pool access at multiple locations: Several campgrounds offer swimming options beyond lake access. "The indoor pool on the other side of the road at the sister campground Meredith Woods was splendid. I love the idea of being able to go swimming even if the weather is a bit crummy," shares Brandon C. about Clearwater Campground's facilities.

Playground facilities: Campgrounds often provide recreational areas for children. "Has a pool on site, but never got the chance to try it out," mentions Nicole L. about Meredith Woods. Most campgrounds provide playground equipment suitable for children ages 5-12.

Game room availability at Harbor Hill Camping Area: Several campgrounds offer indoor entertainment options. "Recreation room with arcade games, pool, ping-pong and other games. Free DVD and book lending library, so if you aren't enjoying the great outdoors or walking on their nature trails, you can just read or watch," explains David D.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: RV sites often require leveling blocks. "The RV site was so uneven," reports J B. about the Ashland New Hampshire Jellystone Park. Most campgrounds provide gravel pads rather than concrete.

Hookup locations at Silver Lakes Park Campground: Utility placement varies between campgrounds. "Water hook up was on the opposite side of the site of where the camper needed to be, no sewer hook ups," explains Zachary W. about Paugus Bay. Most campgrounds offer sites with electric (30/50 amp) and water, while sewer hookups are less common.

Access road considerations: Several campgrounds have narrow entry roads. "My biggest complaint is the narrow roads in the campground. The location is great, and the campground does seem to have quite a bit to offer," notes Kasey M. regarding Paugus Bay Campground. RVs over 35 feet should contact campgrounds in advance to confirm access.
