Great Ontario lake views

This camp is well spaced out even though it’s busy. It’s quiet and has a playground and good fire pits. Laundry and bathrooms. My only complain is we couldn’t shower. They didn’t have shower heads. The water just shot out like a water hose and was cold. The views was amazing especially sunset and the rocks along the water are magical. Places to fish too! And 15 minutes from Niagara Falls!

A pleasure

08 2024  We had our first experience here July of this year.  We loved it so much, we came back in August.  We had several sites, couldn't get one for the entire time each time, and we loved them all.  Sites are fairly open and you see all your neighbors, but they are roomy, you certainly aren't on top of one another.  Sites are sunny, works well for solar, some are partial shade.  The bathrooms and showers were always clean.  The camp store is cute and has essentials.  The staff are pleasant, as are the campers.  There is a shuttle to Niagara Falls, during the summer, it is free, and drops you at several locations.  There is even a pool drop off that is free for campers, very nice for the kids.  There are playgrounds and the kids seem to have fun.  Quiet time is that, quiet.  Some sites overlook the lake, but I'm sure those are gone early in the year.  I recommend this place for all people, young, old, tents, rigs.

Good location

Sites are were nice and big but not private at all. I was in site 300, it was like a large lawn with a tree, which was great for shade. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. Not a lot of privacy. Really nice bathrooms nice showers. Amazing being so close to Lake Ontario.

Very cute campground right on Lake Ontario

I stayed here one night in a tent just passing through, it was a week night and there were lots of people camping but still lots of open sites. they had a good mixture of more open or more secluded spots. The beach is beautiful! The bathrooms were clean! It’s a quick easy drive to Niagara Falls. It was the perfect place to stop going after going through Canada from Michigan!

Stay Here When Visiting Niagara Falls!

Beautiful wide open camp spaces with relatively clean bathrooms (the men’s room had more spiders), but looked newly tiled and worked great for us.

The staff were wonderful. The woman at the check in was welcoming and provided great advice related to visiting the falls. Groundskeepers were also very friendly.

It’s about 20 minutes away from the falls, but you take a very scenic route to the parks and get free parking from your stay. Definitely helps since parking is $10 there usually.

Big sites on Lake Ontario close to Niagara Falls.

We had a site with electric hook up and you fill with water. There are fill stations all throughout the campground. Very well maintained park. Very green and lush with nice sunset views over lake Ontario. There's not much privacy yet some do have a little privacy. Our site #222 was large and level. We had some shade. We had 2 fire pits one near our camper and another near the lake.

There is a little camp store open on weekends only and they sell firewood at the store. You have to back your rig in they do not let you pull in sideways if you do they will make you move it.

On a normal day you can see the skyline of Toronto yet the wild fires kept things hazy. We weren't bothered by smoke just hazy.

The bath houses are very nice and clean. There is a laundry room at every bath house. The volunteers/staff were very nice and helpful.

The birds were amazing we enjoyed watching them and listening to them sing. We had a yellow warbler that landed on the window of the camper that would look in at us. I think it saw it's reflection. Every day it visited a lot.

This campground is about 15 minutes from Niagara Falls. The drive to Niagara is beautiful along the scenic byway. There are small state parks all along the way with different over looks like whirlpool state park a favorite. There is a Devils hole was pretty too. You can walk from park to park along a trail along the river. It is beautiful.

With your hang tag frotthe campground you can park for free at Niagara Falls. The lot says to pay and you push the button for help they ask you a few things and you get in free.

On the way back from Niagara falls to the campground we stopped at Fort Niagara. It is a big fort with great history.   The Fort looks amazing. There is a big castle at the end.

There is a lighthouse there you can go in and up to the top for free.

We at at Sanger Farms & bakery which is advertised in the paperwork they give you for the campground map. We had pizza it wasn't very good. I would not eat there again.

We did eat at Bandanas Bar & Grill a few times it was excellent. The salad, rib eye steak with red potato's and broccoli was so good.

We wanted to go to Apple Granny's for dinner yet the street was closed with a big garden fair.

Did I mention the Winery Bella Rosa? They have tastings/flights  of beer and wine. They gave a good pour.  Excellent wines. They have great wine glasses too I bought 4 of them. We had gone to get gas at Smokin Joes (Indian run so no taxes). The winery was right there near Smokin Joes. For those who partake there is a dispensary there at Smokin Joes too.

This campground is a place I would go back to. Very nice with a lot to do around there.

Good for a quick stay

We stayed for a weekend in a spot right on the creek. It was cool seeing beaver, raccoons, and lots of chipmunks. The campground was quiet and relaxed. There is just not a lot to do to keep busy. It is close to some cool places like Old Fort Niagara. Overall not the best or worst place. The beach is great for watching the sunset or fishing.

5 stars but some drawbacks

We recommend the sites without electricity as they are huge. The 300 area sites are especially spacious and pleasant in a park like setting. It was a tad noisy while we here on a Saturday with all day music concert next door. Fireworks were nice though. Office was very accommodating helping us switch sites from an electric to non electrical site. Note even electrical sites are fairly large. Dump station is nice. They say this is a non swimming campground but there is a small beach on Lake Ontario to swim at. Privacy and aesthetics at non electrical dies is why we give this park 5 stars. Oh proximity to Niagara Falls is also a plus.

Lovely NY State Campground—choose your environment

This is a friendly and clean state park campground where you can choose your own environmental experience. Camping with kids and enjoy interacting with other camping families? Then the 100 loop with large playground (lots of sites with electric hookups, though not a lot of shade) is for you!…Interested in a less social scene, then the 200 loop (has electric hookups) or the 300 loop (no hookups) might be for you…we stayed at campsite 217 (level site with 3 shade trees and just 2 sites away from potable water), which had a shared lawn space with the inner loop sites. It had a lot of joyful kid activity on the weekend, but quieted down like a library on the Monday night we stayed over. The bathhouse in the 200 loop with bathrooms and showers are up-to-date and SUPER CLEAN. (Note: No dishwashing station in this loop, so bring your own system. Also, the camp store is closed on Monday and Tuesdays even in July.) It cannot be overstated that the sunsets over Lake Ontario from the “Sun Lawn” (at the very back of the 100 loop) are absolutely spectacular and every clear night you will see an exodus of campers headed there. No bells and whistles here, but a lot of friendliness and the simplicity is well done. (Note of gratitude: Our rental pop-up had severely under-inflated and worn/cracked tires. The staff at reception told us we could stop at the park’s maintenance garage for compressor air on our way out. The man who gave us air helped us back in, pumped the air in himself, noted the cracks in our tires and told us if we had any problems headed out to our camper drop off (20 minutes away) that we should call him and he would come out to help. THANK YOU!)

A Gem

What a hidden gem of a campground.  Close to all great sights of the area.  Clean, quiet and spacious.  Stayed at site 66, extremely level, close to bathhouse, short walk to the lake, electric.  The site was HUGE.  Just a ton of room.

The sunsets?  They were some of the most amazing I've seen, and we live on the water.  Just stunning.  Be aware that wow…the wind can whip off Lake Ontario.  It was blowing very strong when we arrived.

Bathrooms were very clean, and they would come in every morning to thoroughly disinfect/clean.

The only con (though it didn't matter much to us) is that the camp store is only open from…I believe Wed or Thurs-Saturday.  When we got there (late Saturday) they were just about ready to close.  Very few items, wood was $8/bundle for "meh" wood.  The woman graciously let me have some creamers (really so nice of her).

I would recommend running into Tops Market in Lewiston (a short trip up the road) and getting your firewood right down the road from the campground - cheaper, more of it, and it was better wood.

We loved our stay…absolutely loved it.

On the lake

This is the quietest state campground I’ve had in the NY State Park System. Just a hop away from Niagara Falls, you can also use your camp pass to park there for free.

I spent July 4th here and it was nice and calm. I had an electric spot just across a small field from the lake.

This only skirts a 5 star because they ask for folks to mask up in the restroom. I don’t have any issue with masking policies but I was the only one following the rules.

They have laundry too.

Rangers were responsive when one camper decided to blast music. They quickly asked them to turn it down. Very nice! We went to Niagara Falls. Use your park pass to park at Niagara state park. Beautiful ride to falls along the parkway. We had a nice campfire every night. Firewood was seasoned. Washrooms were clean and adequate.

Huge Site, Great Water Access!

I could have fit 2-3 large RVs on this site. So if you are looking for a group spot, go for it!

The quick walk down to the waterfront was easy and I loved the rocky beach and dips in the refreshing waters of Lake Ontario.

There is a camp store on site for ice, firewood, and other supplies. Wood was a little pricey, so I might recommend looking for a $3 roadside stand as an alternative.

It is also right across the street from a golf club if you're interested in that.

It only took me 25 minutes to get down to Niagara Falls to experience that (go early to beat the crowds) and 10 minutes to go next door to Wilson Tuscarora for a paddle too!

Amazing views, good campground

We loved everything about our stay here (except the non existent cell reception).  Stunning sunsets over Lake Ontario each night, viewable right from our campsite.  There is a stretch of shoreline that is accessible and a lot of space for the kids to run around.  There is a fairly new, large play ground across from the main bath house as well.  If we were to go back, we would like to try site 87, which was closer to the bathrooms, play ground, and view, and had a better fire ring.  It was a very quiet park, despite having plenty of neighbors.  Our kids rode their scooters around the loops safely and enjoyed playing at the lakefront.  The fire rings do have a grate, which we cooked on several times.  I do wish there was water at the site, but we were fine using our fresh water tank.

Niagara Falls is about a 25 minute drive, and you get FREE parking for staying here!  There are also several other state parks to explore, including Fort Niagara SP, Whirlpool SP, & Devil's Hole SP.

Simple campground on Lake Ontario

We stayed here because it was near Niagara Falls and had site availability. We stayed at a non-electric campsite (mid-June). There were 4 other campsites occupied in our area. We have a camper van with solar power and fresh water. There is a shower in the non-electric section but it's not heated water. Since it's June, the temperature was only mildly shocking to my senses. However, the rest of the showers in the campground are heated (we checked). There are at least two laundry facilities. I actually exchanged cash for quarters at the front office. The grounds are well maintained. Beware of the resident skunk that walks around. I didn't test the cell signal here but I was able to work remotely and video chat.

Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

Great base camp for Niagara and other attractions!

Site Details: We stayed on site#79, which was an electric site with a nice lake view. Our row of sites was separated from Lake Ontario by a large, open field. The sunset views over the lake each evening were spectacular. Our site actually had a gravel driveway and pad, as did several others, but I noticed that the majority of sites were grass only. There was a nice row of small shade trees and bushes that separated our row of sites from each other, but the general feel of the campground was more open field rather than forest. I really liked our site overall, but it was a bit of a walk to the bath house and water spigot.

Facilities/Overall Park: This is a very large and popular campground, and to my surprise it didn’t empty out much during the week. The setting is beautiful, the rangers were friendly, and the playgrounds are very nice. The camping loop roads were nicely paved and great for bike-riding. The lake was simply beautiful, and you can even see the Toronto skyline on a clear day. With that said, some of the facilities could use some TLC. There are several bath houses with laundry located throughout the CG, and some are a bit more updated than others. The closest bath house to our site was unfortunately the most dated and dirty of them. The showers were pretty gross, and the bathroom stalls were so-so, but there was constantly TP all over the floor, overflowing trash cans, and only one working soap dispenser(which was empty most of the time). We usually see camp hosts at state parks who take care of bathroom cleaning, but I didn’t notice any hosts or host sites this trip, which I thought was odd. I also noticed that the park in general was sparsely staffed, which seemed odd given the amount of campers.

Surrounding Area/Attractions: The convenient location of this campground can’t be beat. Fort Niagara is about 5 minutes away, the falls are 15-20 minutes away, and there are many farm stands and cute little towns nearby. Another neat town to visit is Lockport, about 30 minutes away(Lake Effect Ice Cream is a must!). This is a very rural area, so the fresh produce stands are plentiful during the summer season. Our favorite was Tom Tower; his peaches and corn were incredible. The fresh cookies from nearby Sanger Farm were delicious as well. Overall, this is a lovely park in a great location. While the facilities within the park were lacking, it is a beautiful and affordable base camp from which to explore all the nearby towns and attractions. We would camp here again!
