Big Lake State Park Campground allows dogs throughout its lakeside sites with well-maintained grounds. Pets are welcome at all camping accommodations including basic tent sites on the lake, electric hookups, and cabin rentals. The park's campsites are level, mostly pull-through, with picnic tables and fire pits on gravel sites. Honey Creek Conservation Area offers free camping with pets in a secluded wooded setting with direct river access at some sites. The campground is generally quiet despite some highway noise, making it suitable for dogs that need minimal distraction. AOK Campground & RV Park also accommodates pets with clean facilities, helpful hosts, and sites featuring full hookups including sewer, water, and 50-amp electrical service.

Trails throughout the region provide opportunities for walking dogs, though leashes are required in most areas. Most campsites remain relatively quiet, allowing for peaceful pet exercise along the campground roads. Brown State Fishing Lake permits pets at its free dispersed camping area with access to water for dogs that enjoy swimming. Camping with pets in this area requires preparation as some locations have limited facilities, with Honey Creek offering only pit toilets and no potable water. Big Lake State Park features nice playgrounds and picnic areas near the camping loops where leashed pets can join family activities. The level terrain throughout most campgrounds makes for easy dog walking, with grassy areas at AOK Campground providing comfortable spaces for pets.

      Hoot Owl Bend

      Great place for a night

We had zero issues staying for the night. It isn’t an unpack your rig and set up camp type of spot. But for a quiet overnight peaceful sleep it is that!! Couldn’t get down to the water, to overgrown and the shore level in down far and sinking mud.

      Starlite RV Park

Great place to stop for an over night.

We like traveling highway 36 going and coming from Indiana to Colorado and back. Brandon and Family are great host and will greet you when you arrive. Brandon has been building this campsite for over a year now, and has made it very nice for pull through's. The lots are level and all hook ups are in new condition. Very easy! Have been there twice and will be going back.

      Big Lakes Turtle Cove Campground

      Primitive at best

The owner was very nice but we weren’t aware of the lack of any sort of bathroom. The lack of shower wasn’t a problem but make sure you have an RV with a bathroom. Tent camping is not recommended here. The campsites were clean and spacious. Mosquitos did come out after dark but it’s by water so we didn’t expect there to not be any bugs.

Nice and inexpensive campground with amenities at the town's recreation facility. Water and electricity at each site and dump station near entrance. Use their reservation system to pay.

      Big Lake State Park Campground

      Beautiful prairie campground

We stopped at this campground for 1 night as we traveled thru. The park was immaculately mowed and the sites were spacious and we'll maintained. It looked like a perfect place to have a picnic as well. Plenty of parking. The lake is narrow and long, so plenty of space to boat. I didn't see a designated swimming areas, so can't say if they're was one or not. I would definitely stay here again.

    Guide to Oregon

Honey Creek Conservation Area provides free camping with pet-friendly sites across its wooded grounds. This peaceful conservation area allows dogs throughout the campground, with several designated camping areas including primitive sites along the Missouri River. Big Lake State Park Campground also welcomes pets with both tent and RV sites featuring electric hookups and picnic tables. The park maintains clean, level gravel sites with some directly adjacent to the lake. Most visitors find the campground exceptionally well maintained with friendly staff who drive around selling firewood from their vehicles. The conservation area offers a quiet camping experience with only a few other campers typically present even during peak season.

Dogs can explore Honey Creek's natural terrain through access roads and wooded trails, though official bike paths are limited. Most campers report the area is secluded with excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing. Big Lake State Park offers flat roads ideal for dog walking around the oxbow lake. While fishing is the primary activity at both locations, pet owners should be prepared for bugs during summer months and occasional wind off Big Lake that can create chilly conditions. The area features basic pit toilets at Honey Creek, while Big Lake provides shower facilities and restrooms that are regularly cleaned. AOK Campground provides another pet-friendly option with full hookups, clean facilities, and shade trees. Bringing pet waste bags is recommended as pet waste stations are limited throughout the region's campgrounds.
