Lewis and Clark State Park Campground

    Clean and quiet

It does cost about $25 a day, but you have electricity, and shade, and it is always quiet here. The park rangers are always cleaning or doing rounds to make sure everything is okay. Bathrooms have AC and are cleaned with disinfectant daily. Very clean campground and has a playground. Pet friendly.

    Big Lake State Park Campground

    Clean and Friendly off I-29

My husband and I tent camped one night at this park. We arrived around 8 pm and even though the office was getting ready to close, the woman behind the counter was very kind and helpful. She helped us with finding our spot and with getting firewood. Our basic tent site was lakeside and had a fire pit and picnic table. The site was so well maintained it was hard to find small sticks for kindling.

The grounds have private bathrooms with toilets and showers. There are two nice playgrounds and a swimming pool. Most campers were enjoying fishing in the small lake. Kayaks were available to rent for a small fee. Kids enjoyed riding bikes around the flat roads.

This is a great spot off I-29 to set up camp and have a rest. It's also a good spot to take young kids fishing.

    Big Lake State Park Campground

    Small quiet park

Small park.sites are right next to each other. Picnic tables and fire pits are on site gravel. All roads are narrow one way with the dumpstation at the back end of park with trash dumpsters there. So on a sunday you will get stuck in the dumpstation line to drop off your trash even if you don't need to dump. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Sites are pretty level. Great playground area for the kids.

    Big Lake State Park Campground

    nice, basic campground

The state park is well maintained but doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles! Sites are flat, mostly pull through. Bathrooms and showers are nice and clean. Pool was closed for construction when we stayed, but looked nice. They have really nice little cabins for rent is camping isn’t your strong suit! Not much in the area to visit if fishing isn’t your thing though! There is a drive through nature preserve fairly close but we didn’t go do it. Kayak rental is available but if fishing isn’t your thing this might not be the park for you. Lots of flat roads for biking though!

    Basswood Country RV Resort

A great place to take the kids/grandkids

We have been camping at Basswood for several years, first with our children and now with our grandchildren. Basswood provides amenities that are great for entertaining children, includinga swimming pool and splash park, two playgrounds, a basketball goal, and fishing. Every weekend there are organized activities such as arts and crafts, fishing contests, duck races and frozen t-shirt contests in the pool, and a Saturday evening outdoor movie. There is a great little store with alcohol for the adults; ice cream treats, which we enjoy after a swim; and nearly any key item you might have forgotten to pack. Most roads throughout the campground are paved, and the campground is generally well-maintained. We appreciate the full-service RV spots, but there are very nice bathroom facilities, including showers, in two locations in the park.

    Basswood Country RV Resort

    Tidy and well run park

This park is convient to I-29 but far enough off the highway to be quiet and peaceful. Tent sites, full hookups as well as rooms and cabins are available. As a point of interest, this used to be a favorite fishing spot of President Harry S. Truman, check out the Mother in Law cabin—built at his request.

    Basswood Country RV Resort

    Very mixed bag

We booked a site here on our drive back East in August 2023. I saw “resort” and was like “Sign me up” after some real hot and grimy parks earlier in the trip.

Ultimately, most of the amenities were closed by the time we arrived. The game room, the restaurant, and store were all closing or closed. My kids did get some pool time (it was a nice pool) and loved the blob (whatever you call the bounce pads). There was a nice playground, pavilion and courts.

What is weird is that this is almost two parks - the front is the “resort” or old-fashioned campground, but where we were placed was in the back with what looked like a lot of long-term, single male residents. It was a longish-walk to front where the pool and store was and it definitely didn’t feel like a resort.

There were spots open in the front closer to the pool and lake - if we had camped there I think the experience would have been different.

Guide to Oregon

Cabin accommodations near Oregon, Missouri provide camping options in northwestern Missouri along the Missouri River floodplain. Most cabins in this region sit at elevations between 850-950 feet with seasonal temperatures ranging from below freezing in winter to humid 90°F days in summer. County and state park cabins typically require advance booking, especially during peak season from May through September.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Atchison State Fishing Lake features the Hickory Point Cabin with proximity to fishing spots. "Primitive camping spot. Bugs and geese are rampant there, but it was quiet," notes Christopher S. The lake provides basic amenities with toilet facilities nearby.

Water activities: Lewis and Clark State Park Campground offers cabins near a small lake perfect for casual boating. "Small lake to canoe or kayak or fishing from the shore line. Whole campground is nice and level," reports Jason C. The park features paved roads ideal for family walks or biking.

Recreation facilities: Sycamore Springs Whitetail Ranch RV Park in nearby Sabetha, Kansas provides extensive recreation options alongside cabin rentals. "There is a skating rink, tennis courts, basketball court, mini golf, and small park for children. You have to buy an activity pass for everything which is $10 a day. If you're camping you get one activity pass for free," explains Bryan R.

What campers like

Peaceful settings: Mozingo Lake County Tent Campground offers cabins in wooded surroundings. "Loved that the tent camping sites were actually surrounded by trees, I see way too many tent campsites that are basically just in the middle of a grass field," comments Sayler O. The campground provides shower facilities and maintained pathways.

Convenient layouts: AOK Campground & RV Park in St. Joseph maintains well-kept cabin rentals with full hookups. "Very well taken care of site. It's been well established for many years," states Julie H. The property includes a fishing pond with catch-and-release policy and seasonal pool access.

Clean facilities: Many campers appreciate the maintained bathroom facilities at area cabin campgrounds. "The shower house was very clean. The tent area was nice with lots of room between them," reports Shannon G. about AOK Campground. Most cabin locations provide access to central shower facilities even when individual cabins lack private bathrooms.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin rentals require advance booking, particularly during summer months. White Cloud Casino has limited cabin units that operate on a first-come basis. "White cloud casino has six RV site was water 20 30 and 50 amp electric first come first serve," advises Jerry W.

Amenity variations: Cabin facilities vary significantly between locations. Some provide only basic shelter while others include kitchenettes or full utilities. Most require guests to bring bedding, cooking equipment and personal items. Electric service is standard but water connections differ by location.

Weather considerations: Northwestern Missouri experiences distinct seasons with hot, humid summers and cold winters. Spring and fall offer moderate temperatures but can bring significant rainfall. Wind conditions off lakes can impact comfort levels, particularly at lakeside cabins.
