Ash Grove Campground — Indian Cave State Park

Tent camped at one of the many sites there are. Tent is $15 per nite and Electric os $30-$25 per nite depending on voltage. The eletric sites are all on one area with showers and in door plumbing. The tent sites have an area with showers and in door plumbing but there are also many tent sites speckled around the park, some have vault toliets and others are primitive. There are also some pack in sites. There is also equestrian campsites as well. Great historical areas and wonderfully well maintained trails. There is also a boat ramp to access the river. You do have to pay a daily park fee on top of the camping price if you do not have a NE State Park Pass those are $30

It's a nice park with lots of RV sites for $25-$30 and tent sites for $15. This cost is in addition to the $6/ day in state or $12/ day out of state vehicle charge. We stopped at the closest tent area from the park entrance. It has flush toilets and showers (.50/3 minutes). There were about 20 individual tent sites in this area, some of which are level, but most aren't. As we were the only ones there, we took a level spot right near the bathrooms. We chased off several raccoons, but they eventually gave up and went back to their trash can rummaging. We had no further issues with them, and were careful to keep all food locked up in the car. There are some nice views and hiking trails and the park was clean.

We camped the weekend of Halloween. The trails are great. Beautiful scenery and our camp site was spacious. I wish the horse trail rides weren’t closed for the year and the main trail. Plus it wasn’t stated clearly that there weren’t water hookups.

The coordinates on Dyrt are incorrect and will take you through a maze of corn fields. Use Google Maps and search for Indian Cave SP instead.

It’s very remote do stock up before you leave the highway.

Once there, the park is accommodating and easy to navigate. We only spent the night, but could see that multiple nights would be great.

Camping here was great. It’s a tight campground so there are a lot of neighbors. The views are incredible so bring a camera!

This is a wonderful park.  There are a lot of things to do and the sites are beautiful.  This review is for the site at Hackberry Hollow.  The sites are back-in sites with electrical hookups and water from a hydrant on the loop.  The end of part of the loop is up the hill above the bathhouse that has flush toilets, showers, and laundry. Lots of birds, racoons, and terrific spiders.  Watch out for ticks though.  Lone Star Ticks were abundant in April.

The park also has a store, a museum, horseshoe pits, archery, trails, and boating on the Missouri river.  There is a cemetary and an old restored town. Indian Cave isn't open to the public because the stairs and boardwalk are in need of repairs.

The power during the week randomly shuts off, the trash is not picked up from trash cans during week, bathrooms not cleaned during week, barely any cell service. BUT, as soon as Friday hits, the trash is collected multiple times a day, no power issues, and bathrooms are cleaned at least once a day. So come here on the weekend, or have a generator or battery bank for during the week.

Large park over 3,000 acres, plenty of hiking trails to enjoy. I really didn't see any trails suitable for bicycling, if biking around RV sites its very hilly and hard to ride. Forget about wifi, hard to find if you can find it at all and no attena tv, your really out in the middle of nowhere, but its a nice park to get away . Only downside, with 134 RV sites there is only one dump station, just dont get in a hurry leaving if you have to dump your RV.

What an awesome place to camp in October. This last weekend they have haunted hayrack rides, pumpkin throws, trick or trick, VW bus fest, yoga, craft fair, crafts, breast cancer awareness walk, flea market and food trucks. And last but not least, haunted campgrounds. People decorate their campsite and all ages trick or treat. There really are some awesome displays. If you’ve never been- go! It’s a blast.

Indian Cave State Park is full of history! Every path or trail you go down, you will find some sort of blast from the past. The trails are wonderful and the old school house, old well, cave and other buildings are so fun to go explore! Some of the camping grounds are a little dated but it’s nice there’s shower houses and mature trees. We like to visit the park in the spring and fall, only because there’s no place for the kids to swim and cool down in the hot summer, and for the Halloween festivities! All in all there’s many things to do, learn, and explore during your stay! We’re never bored!

Open concept camping with decent amenities.

We loved staying here. Nice sites, older picnic tables. Some sites can be tough to get in if you have larger rig. Nice bathrooms. The hikes were nice to do. Several choices in hikes. Dog friendly and kid friendly park.

I surprised my husband for a mini birthday trip in August of 2015. Yes...we went tent camping in August! The tent campgrounds were pretty empty and we were able to find a nice spot off the road. When we went they were resurfacing the road all the way down to the cave so if you wanted to see the Indian Cave it was about a 2mile hike, which we didn’t mind, aside from the Nebraska, August heat! We loved the hiking trails through the trees and difficult terrain. This camping trip will be another one to complete...maybe in September or October next time 😃

Great hiking trails and primitive camping!

Very nice state park

The camping section for r.v. is very steep.  We were situated near the shower/bathrooms, but I felt sorry for the guys that were located down the hill.  At the bottom of the hill was a classic playground with swings, slides and a merry-go-round. If I had come just for camping, then this park was great.  But I also came to try the hiking and the trails around the area, but there isn’t a single trail near the r.v. camping area. I guess they expected you to drive to a trailhead.  We walked to a couple of the historic sites, but it was all road and concrete and we had to keep making way for the vehicles. I had been looking forward to trail walk, and instead I felt like I was on a city walk.  The historical sites were quaint, and since we were there on a weekend, they had re-enactments. It would have been a dud on a Monday. The second day, we were smart and we drove to the Indian Cave. It was a good thing, too.  It was another extremely long, steep hill down to the trail head. I think it took us a good 20 minutes to make the drive. The trail itself was more of a boardwalk, and it took us only a few minutes to get up to the cave.

Over-all, I think the park lacks good planning.  They could make it so much better if they could connect the camping area with at least one of the trails to the northeast.  As it is, I would recommend the site if you have a separate vehicle or as a day trip.

We tent camped with 3 kids last week. Tons of fun hiking and exploring. Would have been nice to have trails closer to camp area, but drives were short and the air conditioner felt great after hiking. The kids were a little disappointed with the cave, they thought they could go inside. Over all it was very clean and tons of fun. We would definitely go back!

If you enjoy camping in the fall this is the right park. A large amount of trees that provide great colors.

Plus in October their haunted hay ride and the decorated campers are fun to get you ready for Halloween.

The Missouri River is right there, you can take trails to get there or drink be. The Indian Cave is along the river. Not my belief it’s a real cave but there is a historical aspect to it. It’s really to bad that kids have marred the sandstone with their names.

I have been going there for years. There are so many trails i still have yet to conquer them all. The campsites on the trails are well kept up if you want to be far from people. They have so many different activities all year round!

The camping spots that are the walk up sites are amazing - you can do sites surrounded by trees and private, or ones near the playground. All great sizes and partially shaded. Lots of hiking trials, and a small lake down near the river. If you want to reserve, go ahead but when you check in, ask to move to a walk in site - they are a lot nicer and lots of choices.

this place was such a fun place to just go and hike, many of the trails had placards that tell you little details about certain events in history. This park also has some petrogylphs, the only down side of this park is that people seemed to have attempted to make their own petroglyphs with spraypaint.

I had a great time going with my girlfriend. There is alot of spots to camp (tent/RV) and the area was clean. We were really interested in the history of the area, only downside is that the caves were not as exciting and people have destroyed it with graffiti.
