Crawford State Park's four distinct campgrounds welcome pets throughout their Oak Point, Rocky Cove, and Lonesome Point areas. Each pet-friendly camping area offers RV sites with both 30 and 50-amp hookups, while some locations feature cabin accommodations where dogs are also permitted. Lamar City Park provides a simpler alternative with 30-amp electric hookups in an open grassy area where pets are allowed, though camping spaces are limited with approximately seven spots available. Prairie State Park Campground offers primitive camping with four spacious sites that accommodate up to 20 people, but contrary to some listings, multiple reviews clarify that pets are not permitted on any trails due to the free-roaming bison herds. Gunn Park in Fort Scott allows pets at both tent and RV sites, with electric hookups available for $10 per night compared to $5 for tent camping.

Campers bringing dogs to Crawford State Park benefit from lakeside camping where nearly every spot sits directly on the water, providing excellent fishing opportunities and swimming access. The park includes a modern bathhouse, though restroom facilities at some campgrounds like Rocky Cove require walking to adjacent areas, as there are no bathroom facilities directly on-site. Fort Scott's Gunn Park offers several pet-friendly hiking trails around its peaceful wooded setting, though bathroom facilities are limited to porta-potties. Ticks are a significant concern for pets at Prairie State Park, with multiple reviewers noting heavy tick presence throughout the hiking areas. The train tracks running approximately 200 feet from Lamar City Park create constant noise that might disturb sensitive pets, with trains passing through 24 hours daily according to camper reports.

      Great spot!

We were just passing through and stayed for a night. We had sewer, water, and electric hookup. A nice dog park, and even found some 4 leaf clovers!

      Stage Stop Campground

      Love this campground!!

We stayed here twice our first night and last night of our two week road trip. The place is well maintained and peaceful. Decorated like an old western town. Laundry facilities are available. The dog park was the best our whole road trip. We have three dogs that range from 4.5 lbs to 45 lbs. they had room to play and they were safe. The staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

      Four Oaks RV Park

Goof Transit camping with great staff

Super helpful staff for late check-ins. It is a good RV campsite when you are on the move and need a place to stay near the the high way (a bit noisy with traffic) and traveling with a pet. They have a place for dogs to play.

      Big Red Barn RV Park

Very convenient, super clean and quiet

We overnighted here on the way to Hot Springs, AR.  Convenient to Interstate 49, but virtually no traffic noise and none while inside the van.  We arrived after the office had closed - there was a prominent note on the door as to which site to use.   Electrical hookup was fine - we did not use water or cable.  There were about a dozen other  campers - most appeared to be long termers.  The CG was VERY quiet - very peaceful.  They have an off-leash dog park area which our dogs loved and used it 3-4 times the nite we were there.  The bathrooms were toasty warm and VERY clean.  Lavatory hot water got warm quickly, plenty of soap and towels.  The office has various items for sale, from snacks to RV gear.  Would not hesitate to stay again - in fact, may do so next week on our return trip.

      Kimmys At Caplinger

      Best Family Campground in Missouri

Kimmy’s is amazing!  Always friendly and clean. Lots of activities for any outdoor adventures. Hiking kayaking swimming and lots of laughs come with Kimmy’s crew. They go out of their way to make your stay wonderful! If the pond on site is not big enough Stockton Lake is just minutes away or maybe you enjoy kayaking the Sac River is very close as well. Shuttle service is right up the road if needed. Keep your eyes peeled you may just find a message rock or two. We frequent Kimmy’s several times each summer and by far our absolute favorite campground in Missouri. And they are pet friendly too!

      Prairie State Park Campground

      Prairie State Park

Campsites accommodate up to 20 people. There are toilet facilities as well as a place to get water. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed. =[

    Guide to Liberal

Prairie State Park offers primitive camping with bison viewing opportunities for pet owners near Liberal, Missouri. This 3,942-acre preserve sits at approximately 900 feet elevation with tall grass prairie that once covered 400,000 square miles of North America. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and cold winters that can drop below freezing.

    What to do

Hike prairie trails with caution: At Prairie State Park Campground, trails range from 1.5-4.5 miles with a total of 14 miles available throughout the park. "You get the true prairie experience," notes Chad K., though multiple reviewers emphasize pets cannot accompany you. "If you are interested in bison sightings, this is the park for you," explains Deborah C.

Visit the nature center: Located near the campground, the nature center provides educational exhibits about prairie ecology. "The nature center is small but they have two bison, a coyote, and many other learning opportunities inside," reports Wendy M., making it worth a stop before exploring the trails.

Fish at Crawford State Park: Nearly every campsite at Oak Point Campground sits directly on the water, offering excellent fishing access. "Amazing swimming beach, modern bath house and great restaurant," writes Stephanie D., noting the convenience of lakeside camping for water activities.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Prairie State Park offers four primitive sites that accommodate larger groups. "Campsites accommodate up to 20 people. There are toilet facilities as well as a place to get water," mentions Carrie J., highlighting the generous sizing compared to standard campgrounds.

Privacy between sites: At Rocky Cove Campground, the concrete pad sites provide adequate separation. "The sites are small, and for the summer, don't stay in site #118 (a lakeside site), as it has no protection from the sun," advises Bruce, providing specific site recommendations.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Bison herds roam freely at Prairie State Park, creating unique viewing opportunities. "You get to be around buffalo without fences. It is a surreal experience and worth the time to locate the herd in the park," shares Luke B., describing what many campers consider the highlight of visiting.

    What you should know

Bathroom facilities vary widely: At Lamar City Park, facilities are minimal. "The area is just a grassy area where RV/Tent camping is allowed. A restroom is available as well as one water faucet," notes Dexter I., describing the basic setup. At Rocky Cove Campground, there are no bathroom facilities on-site, requiring campers to walk to adjacent campgrounds.

Tick prevention essential: Prairie State Park has significant tick populations, especially during warmer months. "Lots of ticks. Good clean campground. Bathroom. Bison roam the park. Ticks also roam the park," warns I.W., emphasizing the need for proper precautions when hiking.

Noise considerations: Train tracks near Lamar City Park create constant noise disturbances. "The only problem was train traffic 200' away 24/7," reports Dave, describing a common complaint. Similarly, at Osage Prairie RV Park, highway noise continues throughout the night.

    Tips for camping with families

Budget-friendly options: Gunn Park offers affordable camping near Fort Scott. "This place is a small park that has lots of hiking trails it is five dollars for tents $10 for RVs with electric," explains Jason T., noting the value for families watching their budget.

Swimming opportunities: Crawford State Park provides dedicated swimming areas for families. "What a gem! Amazing swimming beach, modern bath house and great restaurant," writes Stephanie D., highlighting amenities that appeal to families with children.

Holiday decorations: Gunn Park offers seasonal displays during holidays. "They had a super decorated for Christmas," mentions Jason T., adding a special attraction for families camping during holiday periods.

    Tips from RVers

Electric hookup locations: At Osage Prairie RV Park, RV sites feature full hookups but vary in length. "Osage Prairie, Site #46 (46 total sites), long enough for tt and truck, gravel, full hookup, close, but not bad, on interstate service road," details James G., providing specific site information for larger rigs.

Level site considerations: Many campgrounds require leveling equipment. "Needed two blocks to level, some mature trees, some short sites, some longer, make sure to ask for longer," advises James G. about Osage Prairie RV Park sites, emphasizing the importance of requesting appropriate sites.

Dump station access: At Bourbon County Fairgrounds Campground, the dump station is easily accessible. "The dump station has easy access and allowed for a good black tank flush," notes Rick G., describing an important facility for longer-term RV campers.
