About

This is quite a quiet and private site, bordered by a neighbor's old forest on back, other neighbor's cattle pasture on side, and you're in one of the pastures used by the Horse Sanctuary. (You are camping about 1/4 mile, more or less, from our house.) We regularly see coyote, wild turkeys, deer, fireflies, and the like. We are just 1/2 mile off Old Route 66, therefore there are quirky little museums and great restaurants (for such a rural area!). Plus we are only about an hour's drive from Branson. MO. which is a known tourist attraction. The pasture is quite visible from Old Route 66, nearly adjoining it. Therefore people travelling “the Mother Road” find it quite convenient to stay with us. Grass is the best forage for horses, especially older ones, so we take meticulous care of our pastures, so it is usually very beautiful scenery for campers, too. And there is a swimming hole not a half mile away.

Directions

From Old Route 66 (Highway 96), exactly 1/2 mile east of the Avilla Fire & Rescue Station or 1/2 mile west of White Oak Creek, turn south onto County Road 30. We are the first place you will get to down that road, approximately 1/2 mile, on the right. Look for the brick pillars with stone horseheads; our sign is inlaid on the southernmost pillar. Turn right into the short gravel driveway and turn right again through the unpainted picket fence double gates (if you find them closed, please leave them closed -- sometimes we have to put a horse in the yard!). Turn left immediately after you go through the gates and proceed straight ahead through the back yard and through a red pipe gate situated between a white outbuilding and a round pen. As you proceed through the yard, take note of the location (on your left), of the latrine you can use, which is behind the camper in which our horse volunteers from overseas sometimes reside. Your campsite is straight beyond the red pipe gate, under the trees, clear at the back fenceline of the pasture/hayfield in which you will find yourself after passing through the gate. Depending upon season of the year the grass in the field may be long and uncut but we try to keep the campsite itself trimmed.
