Lamar City Park

Campers can walk the mile-long loop trail that circles through Lamar City Park, while RV travelers find about seven spots with three offering electric hookups. The camping area sits in a grassy section adjacent to the city's aquatic center, with a restroom and single water faucet serving the grounds. First-come, first-served sites accommodate big rigs, including 43-foot motorhomes with tow vehicles on the pull-through spaces.

Train tracks run roughly 200 feet from the camping area, creating regular noise throughout both day and night hours. Dexter I. notes "A restroom is available as well as one water faucet" along with access to picnic tables in the adjacent park areas. The swimming pool next door may provide shower facilities during operating season.

Access requires turning right immediately after crossing the railroad tracks rather than driving into the main park entrance. The narrow park roads and stone bridges can challenge larger RVs if drivers miss this critical turn. Registration happens by calling the number posted on the campground sign. The first night costs nothing, then $20 per night up to seven nights within any 30-day period, with both 30-amp and 50-amp service available at select sites.

Many visitors appreciated the free first night and reasonable $20 rate for basic RV camping with essential hookups. Train noise from nearby tracks was a common concern, though some found it manageable.

Great overnight stop for big rigs

Stopped overnight on a Thursday. It's a bit tricky to get to -- as a prior reviewer noted, DO turn right immediately after crossing the railroad tracks. You'll soon see the camping area on your left with a couple of places to pull in. Once there, you'll see a sign (see pic)--I called and left a voicemail with the required info. What makes it tricky is that there's no signage about where to turn. Don't make our mistake and drive into the park and then try to turn right! It was an interesting drive through the narrow roads and skinny stone bridges but we made it unscathed. Just turn right, immediately after the rr tracks, and you're golden.

4 stars just bc of the trickiness of getting there. Two trains went by in the evening, but none during the night, & we kept our windows open.

We didn't use the elec sites ((occupied), but didn't need them as we have solar.

We didn't need to unhook -- our 43' motorhome + tow fit on the pull thru site.

If you love trains!

This is a city park with a mile walking loop, playgrounds, bathrooms, a couple spots with RV power hookups, and a dump station. The first night is free and then it's $20/night up to 7 nights in a thirty day window. It is right by the train tracks, but we were able to sleep through once we fell asleep.

When you cross the train tracks, turn right and the RV park is passed the aquatic center. There are about 7 spots, at least 3 with electric hookup. First come, first served and you call the number on the sign to register.

Free city park campground

1st night free, $20 donation after. register with Holly, 30 & 50 amp at only 3 poles, free water and dump on site. The only problem was train traffic 200' away 24/7.

Just a grassy parking area with restrooms

Lamar City Park RV campground is as bear bones as it gets.  The area is just a grassy area where RV/Tent camping is allowed.  A restroom is available as well as one water faucet.  If you want a picnic table to use you can take a short walk over to the park as one is near the RV campground.  The park is quite nice.  The city swimming pool is next door if you want to swim or possibly shower.  The park is a 5 star park, but the camping area is not much to talk about.  Camping is free the first night then it is $20 a night after that.
