Best Campgrounds near Lake Cormorant, MS

Lake Cormorant, Mississippi provides convenient access to several well-established campgrounds along the Mississippi River and nearby lakes. Facilities such as Hernando Point, Dub Patton Campground, and South Abutment Recreation Area offer a range of camping options including tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin rentals. Most developed campgrounds in the region feature full hookups with 50-amp electrical service, water connections, and sanitary dump stations. The area's proximity to Memphis, Tennessee (approximately 20-30 minutes away) makes it popular for travelers exploring both Mississippi and Tennessee attractions.

Camping availability remains consistent throughout the year as most facilities operate year-round in this moderate climate zone. Temperatures vary seasonally with hot, humid summers and mild winters. "Mississippi does a great job of maintaining their COE campgrounds. Nice, spacious spots underneath large Pine trees. Water views and access to the Lower Lake," noted one camper about the nearby recreation areas. During warmer months, insect activity increases substantially, with multiple reviews mentioning mosquitoes and ticks, particularly in riverside camping areas. Campground amenities vary widely, with some locations offering free laundry facilities, clean bathhouses, and concrete pads, while others provide more basic services with fewer developed features.

Many campers highlight the unique experience of riverside camping along the Mississippi. Several visitors appreciate watching barges travel up and down the river, with one review noting, "Great spot right on the Mississippi River, barges traveling up and down day and night. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets." Waterfront campgrounds tend to receive higher ratings, particularly those with spacious sites set back from neighboring campers. While most campgrounds are well-maintained, some visitors note that certain locations would benefit from additional funding for infrastructure improvements. Mixed-use campgrounds offering both RV and tent sites are common in the region, though tent campers should check amenities carefully as some locations primarily cater to RVs with limited tent-specific facilities.

Oak Grove (MS) — Sardis Lake

    Good place

Quiet campground with a lake you can fish and have a fishing boat. Pontoons are acceptable. Bathrooms are decent and the camps pot accommodated my 36ft 5th wheel.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Quiet and Relaxing

This place is very beautiful and DEEP into to woods. The sites are very spread out with privacy though and we loved that!

We arrived after hours and our site had a pamphlet with our name and some basic information for our stay.

In the morning, the spot was very beautiful and tucked away in the woods with visibility to the lake down the hill.

It rained briefly and our spot was down a slight hill so there was a bit of concern with puddling, but there was proper drainage and the site didn’t puddle as much as we would’ve thought! The site was very leveled!

We lost service about 5/10 minutes out from the park with Verizon so if there are things you need to search before do that!

When we left we stopped by the visitor center that had a pretty wide range of things to do with a gift store. The staff and rangers were very nice!

    We would visit again!

    Delta Ridge RV Park

    Perfect for a single overnight

Small, tight campground that has no amenities at all, but is priced accordingly. This campground has full hookups at every site, the sites are tight enough together that opposing slides wouldn’t fit, there are no bathrooms, laundry facilities, etc. It is conveniently located very close to I40 and is minutes from shopping and restaurants.

Added bonus……the WiFi is rock solid. I didn’t bother using my Starlink as I was able to stream from the campgrounds wifi.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Really nice, quiet CG

We have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed in site 50 for 1 night in mid September. The CG is clean, well maintained. The CG roads are paved, as are the sites. The sites themselves all seemed pretty level. The CG was very quiet and peaceful and about half full while we were there. Our site, 50, was a pull-through, as were several, but most were back in. There is some shade depending on the site. The bathhouses are showing their age a bit.

AT&T coverage was basically nonexistent with 1 bar of 5GE service but 0 MB/s of throughput. We had a clear view to the N at the site, so Starlink was fine with speeds up to 13 MB/s.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Good rest for weary travelers!

Arrived after hours to Campsite area A (sites 1-41). Note: reservation app does was not allow same day reservations, so find "available" site and pay at kiosk at visitor center. Hard to see park at night but in the morning found clean restrooms and shower --a happy find. Park offers nice large sites for tent and RVs with power, water, picnic table & fire rings. Really nice campgrounds with golf and equestrian facilities near by.

    Mississippi River State Park Campground

    Beautiful and quiet

This small campground is beautiful and kept very clean. Sites are full hookup. The bath house is very clean. There are four private toilet/shower rooms. All handicapped accessible. My favorite sites are 12, 13, and 14. My least favorite were 9, 10, and 11, but they are pull through sites.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: South Abutment Recreation Area offers direct water access for many sites. "Almost all sites have a walk down to the water," notes one visitor, making it ideal for kayaking or paddleboarding on Arkabutla Lake.

Riverboat watching: Tom Sawyer's RV Park provides unique Mississippi River views. "Tugboats pushed barges against the current at a slower than walking pace. Trees with root balls intact floated downstream," describes one camper who enjoyed the natural riverside entertainment.

Museum visits: The Chucalissa archaeological museum near T.O. Fuller State Park Campground offers native history exhibits. A camper mentioned, "Chucalissa Museum is worth checking out if you are here," with free tickets available when checking in at the park.

What campers like

Concrete pads: EZ Daze RV Park features level sites with solid foundations. "Level, nice concrete pads. Good hookups. Workers all very pleasant," shares one visitor who appreciated the well-maintained surfaces.

Free laundry facilities: Several reviewers specifically mention the complimentary laundry at Tom Sawyer's RV Park as a major benefit. "Free laundry, and even some small walking trails!" noted one camper about the riverside location.

Lake views: Hernando Point provides scenic water vistas from many sites. "The sites were easy to get into and the campground was quiet and the setting is really beautiful," reports a camper who enjoyed the lake environment.

What you should know

Airport noise: Some campgrounds experience significant air traffic. At Jellystone Park, one camper reported, "Airplanes every few hours, traffic from a nearby highway" contribute to the ambient noise.

Industrial proximity: T.O. Fuller's location brings certain challenges. "There's a smell due to the industrial zone right outside the park," notes one reviewer, while another mentions you must "take a long drive through a kind of run down neighborhood, or an industrial park" to reach the campground.

Security measures: Graceland RV Park & Campground maintains 24-hour security. "They have a 24-hour security guard at the entrance and you must sign-in to enter the property," explains a visitor, providing peace of mind for those camping near urban areas.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming access: When camping during warmer months, look for properties with pools. At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Memphis, families enjoy "pool, bikes, playgrounds," making it a hit with kids after long drives.

Budget-friendly entertainment: Hollywood Casino RV Park offers surprising amenities at lower rates. "The casino has some cool movie memorabilia displayed. Indoor pool is nice but not heated," mentioned one visitor who paid around $25 per night.

Playgrounds location: When selecting a Corps of Engineers campground, check playground placement. At Dub Patton Campground, one camper noted "there was no playground in the actual camping area," requiring families to travel to other sections of the recreation area.

Tips from RVers

Voltage issues: Some parks experience electrical fluctuations. At EZ Daze RV Park, one RVer documented, "I checked my Powerdog app and it showed 142.5 volts on line 2," recommending surge protectors for equipment safety.

Water pressure concerns: Be prepared with regulators at certain locations. "One little issue was that water pressure was over 50lbs! Glad I have a regulator!" advised a camper at Sam's Town Tunica.

Campsite selection strategy: At many campgrounds, waterfront sites fill quickly. "Site 9 and site 10 are by far the most beautiful sites in the camp," noted a Dub Patton visitor, recommending booking these lake-adjacent spots together for groups.
