Davis Lake Campground offers full-hookup RV sites adjacent to the water with 30 and 50 amp electric service. Located approximately 30 miles from Houston, this year-round facility features level parking pads suitable for motorhomes up to 40 feet. Serenity RV Park provides concrete pull-through sites with dual sewer connections, making it convenient for various RV configurations. The park includes six cement pull-through sites with full hookups and both 30 and 50 amp electrical service. Howard Stafford Park Campground maintains water and sewer connections with picnic tables at most sites, though space can be limited. "The rv pads are very short and uneven," noted one visitor about Howard Stafford Park.

Seasonal availability varies across these campgrounds, with most offering year-round access. Natchez Trace RV Park accommodates big rigs with 50-amp service and sewer hookups, though reviews indicate many sites are occupied by long-term residents. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region, particularly near Tupelo. Dump stations are available at Davis Lake and Natchez Trace RV parks, while Serenity RV Park offers on-site laundry facilities. Pet policies differ between locations - Serenity and Davis Lake welcome pets, while Natchez Trace prohibits them. Highway and train noise may be noticeable at Serenity RV Park, according to recent visitor experiences. Gravel sites at some parks may require leveling blocks, particularly at locations away from the water at Davis Lake where reviews mention uneven terrain.

      Whitten Park Campground

      Still One of Our Favs

GPS took us right to Whitten Park Campground (CG). The check-in gate opens early most days and was already open when we arrived at 2:15 PM. Check-in was friendly and quick, even though the official check-in time was 4:00 PM. We had pull-through site 9 with water and electric(50/30/20 AMP). Sites 8 and 9 had been combined to create a very long pull-through with two sets of utilities. We were able to position our rig on the pad to compensate for the slight slope, using one leveling block under each wheel on the door side. With temperatures reaching 100 degrees, we were glad the 50 AMP service supported all three of our air conditioners. As with most COE CGs, water pressure was very good, so we used our pressure regulator. Our site had a nice step-down patio with a large picnic table, stand-up BBQ grill, and fire pit. We stayed in the same site a couple of years ago, but the picnic table and other amenities from the former site 8 had since been removed. We also enjoyed a partial water view through the trees. We had 3 bars on Verizon and 2 bars on T-Mobile, with the T-Mobile signal strong enough to run our T-Mobile Home Internet and stream. With the amount of large trees in this CG, satellite could be iffy depending on the site. There was no CG WiFi. We stayed in Loop 1, which had trails leading to the boating and fishing docks, along with connecting trails to the other CG loops. Loops 1 and 3 are the most popular and tend to attract more campers. If you prefer fewer crowds and a quieter camping experience, consider Loop 2, which generally has fewer occupied sites, especially during the week. Whitten Park remains one of our favorite campgrounds.

      Lakelife RV Park

My friend was cussed at when arrived.

They was cussed at us and told me my camper was ugly and accused of me being on drugs. And was told I was a lier. Was very blunt and said my camper looks like shit.

      Tombigbee State Park Campground

      FHU- Not big rig friendly

Small park, 20 sites of various sizes, 18 full hook ups(even sewer). Tent& group camping available. Cabins also available. A/C Bathhouse centralized with a vending machine for canned soda, men's side, women's side, and coin laundry(2 washer/2 dryer)$2.50 per use for light wash load- price increases with load size and function.$2.50 per dryer in commercial dryer. Sides each consisted of 3 flush toilets and 2 shower stalls. Lots of playground equipment for kids, along with a small baseball diamond, volleyball nets, BBQ grills, picnic tables and pavilions. Lots of trails around, but seems that they link to the disc golf course. Trolling motor or kayak lake only, NO SWIMMING. You can rent kayaks from the office. Fishing available with permit available at office& limits. Not far from Tupelo, MS, 15 minute drive to explore and shop. Our site#6 was just big enough for our camper(35 ft). We parked our truck(25ft) sideways-ish in front of the camper. We tried to stay out of the road for passing vehicles. There were parking spaces just up from our site, but our truck would have stuck out into traffic. Glad that we didn't because a storm came through and the wind caused a tree to come down over the road in front of our camper where those parking spots were. When I made the reservation via the phone number, I spoke with a representative who was in Maryland, so she had no idea, but said that on her screen the pad size should be long enough and it was not. There is no one at the gatehouse, you have to check in at the office across from the campground or envelopes are provided with a fee list for the honor system. It was quiet at night. There was only 1 other RV hooked up there the whole 7 days that we were. There were people that came through the week for 1 night only, but most people coming into the campground loop were stopping to use the shower facilities, the laundry facilities, or just driving through. We camped at Tombigbee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

      Whitten Park Campground

      Nice and quiet

Stayed here for 4 nights in sites 27 and 28. Right across from the bathrooms which were more than adequate. Was able to put our paddle board in from site 27 - just had to walk thru a little brush to access the river. Very quiet campground. No other campers in our loop at all. Sites are shady and perfectly level.

    Guide to Houston

The Houston, Mississippi area offers several camping options situated in the Tombigbee National Forest region, approximately 30-45 minutes from Tupelo. Most campgrounds in this area are open year-round with summer temperatures typically reaching 90°F and winter lows around 30°F. Cell service can be spotty in more remote locations, particularly those away from major highways and deeper into forested areas.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Davis Lake Campground provides excellent bank and pier fishing, with a 200-acre lake known for good catches. "Plenty of place to tie up a boat. We plan to return and explore some more!" notes Nate S., who visited with his travel trailer.

Hiking trails: Moon Lake Farm offers a short nature walk around its property. According to Tim, the campground has "a short trail that goes around the property and a beautiful lake to enjoy."

Lakeside walking: Howard Stafford Park features scenic paths along the water's edge. One visitor mentioned, "Nice walking paths along the lakes edge provides a great place for a view of the sunset."

Swimming access: During warmer months, Davis Lake provides swimming areas, though users should note potential hazards. "The swimming area steps are quite slippery as well and muscle shells are ever present so i would recommend aquatic footwear if you plan on using this area," advises Chris M.

    What campers like

Peaceful environment: Moon Lake Farm gets high marks for tranquility. Mike B. describes it as "a very peaceful stop with 30 amp power and water available. Well kept and very nice host. John communicated with us perfectly."

Budget-friendly options: Howard Stafford Park offers affordable rates. Simon C. notes, "Can't beat the price at $22/night. We stopped in for a night in our teardrop trailer on our way farther up north."

Clean facilities: Lakelife RV Park maintains good amenities despite mixed reviews on site spacing. E.M. mentions it has "a central fire ring with swings, a small camp store, laundry room, and bathhouse."

Dark skies: Davis Lake's location in the national forest means minimal light pollution. Stephen & Theresa B. report there was "no light pollution making the night sky a spectacular sight to see."

    What you should know

Limited site availability: Most campgrounds in the area have fewer than 20 sites and fill quickly during peak seasons. At Howard Stafford Park Campground, Stacey notes it's "a small comfortable campground with full hookups" with "less than 20 sites."

Variable site quality: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain. At Davis Lake, one reviewer advises: "do your research on the campsites. some are pretty short and will not accommodate long rigs."

Seasonal maintenance: Facility upkeep can vary by season. One Davis Lake visitor mentioned, "Facilities are really only maintained during peak season and even then I've been greeted by dirty showers and restrooms more than once."

Long-term residents: Several RV parks primarily cater to long-term stays rather than overnight campers. At Natchez Trace RV Park, Wendy T. advises: "If you are looking for just an overnight, my advice is to keep looking. Otherwise have a great week long stay at this campground."

    Tips for camping with families

Recreational amenities: The Oaks RV Park provides cabin options for families without RVs. Jason R. notes, "The Cabins were recently added and is a nice feature. Always quiet and owners are very accommodating."

Splash pads: Howard Stafford Park includes water features for children. Simon C. mentions the park "Has a splash pad, a basketball court, and several piers on the lake for fishing."

Wildlife viewing: Davis Lake offers opportunities to observe birds and animals. One camper shared they "had a Great Blue Heron 'friend' during our entire stay," while another mentioned, "Great wildlife! Came here for bird watching."

Security features: Some parks provide controlled access after hours. At Howard Stafford Park, Jim A. notes, "Non campers kicked out at 8pm and gates are locked. All campers get a key for after hours entry/exit."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Serenity RV Park offers convenient pull-through cement sites with dual sewer connections. MickandKarla W. explain, "There are two sewer connections on both cement and gravel sites, which is a nice convenience. Water and electric hookups are centrally located on the pad."

Leveling needs: RVers should bring leveling blocks for sites at many area campgrounds. At Davis Lake, Nate S. warns, "The sites away from the water looked to be uneven and on a slope so beware if you take an rv."

Length restrictions: Many rv campgrounds in Houston, Mississippi and surrounding areas have pad size limitations. One Howard Stafford visitor commented on the concrete pads but noted they "are very short."

Hookup quality: Electrical service reliability varies by campground. Davis Lake offers "well cared for electric service (50 amp) and water," according to one reviewer, while others found inconsistent quality at smaller facilities.
