Dancing Fire Glamping and RV Resort (formally known as Port Huron Township Campground) will undergo extensive redevelopment following the 2023 camping season and will re-open in Spring 2024 with many new resort amenities, including a new upscale clubhouse reception area with attached pavilion, patio, pool and hot tub area, fitness and yoga space; a pickle ball court; a fenced dog run with dog bathhouse; a playground; and scenic walking trails. Other amenities will include EV charging stations for those wishing to arrive in their electric vehicles. These amenities will be rolled out over the 2024 and 2025 camping season, so thank you in advance for your support and patience while we build these out!
In addition to the new resort amenities, many new options for glamping hospitality beyond traditional campsites will be offered, including The Cottages @ Dancing Fire (luxury park models), Rustic Deluxe Cabins, The Safari Camp @ Dancing Fire (lux style safari tent units), The Bus Stop (stay in a Skoolie! And if you don’t know the term, Google it – so cool!), Vintage Airstreams and RVs, and several other glamping options that will eventually be rolled out (think tree houses, A-frame cabins, and other very cool stays!). People were super friendly and the owners were lovely. They have a little shack and sell firewood. Full hook up options. They have a dump station right at the entrance. The lord are little close together but we didn’t mind too much. The park was nice and the lake was beautiful. The beach a is bit rocky. I would definitely visit again.

A fun little campground with a nice bunch of petting zoo type animals! The beach is clean and the lake is warm! Very nice layout with walking trail around the lake. The only complaint was not nearly enough trash cans around (like, none easy to find) and the bathrooms were nasty for our 2 day visit. Price per night for full hook up was $40 :-)
GuideDrove by this campground all my life nearly and never had any interest to stay here. Extremely small, tightly crammed in 30 total sites with no additional amenities other than its economically priced for a full hook up, drive thru sites @$28 a night. Not a good place for family oriented activities for the young ones at all but a good place to pull off while traveling and need a night or two to stay in the midst of your travels maybe

If you're looking for a peaceful state park near the beach, this is NOT IT.
This is a noisy, crowded, smokey RV park with no privacy. It would probably be fun if you were 10 years old, running wild with all the other kids and hanging out on the beach. The other campers are in large noisy groups that arrive after 11:30 pm to noisily set up their RVs or party until midnight. Not our thing!
The beach is nice (no dogs on beach) and bathrooms were fine.

It saddens me to write such a poor review for a campground I once loved. I have been camping at Forester Campground in Sanilac County since 2005. We camp with a very large group of over 20 people. This year Sanilac County Parks allowed one person to make group reservations then each party called in and paid. This seemed like a good solution for those of us who camp in large groups and want to be by each other. However, they did not send us individual emails of confirmations. They only sent it to the individual who made the reservation. This has been a stressful year, and I could not remember what my dates were. I called Forester Campground. They told me I was due in on June 27th. When I checked in, the office staff told me I was due until the following day. I was upset, as I was given the wrong information. I asked her if I needed to pay today for the day. She said she would adjust it, since it was her staff that made the error. As I was setting up, the park manager, Steven Pozsgay came and said he“adjusted” our stay, having us leave a day earlier. This would have us leaving a day before our friends. I was very upset. He was not aggressive, but extremely unfriendly. He said if we wanted to stay another day would need to pay for it. Which, I offered when I checked in. I found out he reprimanded his staff for offering to accommodate us since the staff made the error. After serious consideration, time with our friends was more important than his attitude. So we paid for the additional night. When we went to pay, we tried to discuss with the staff why we were upset. In the middle of the conversation, the manager, Steven Pozsgay took his phone out of his pocket, dialed his phone and left the room. Leaving his staff with my sister and myself. His staff told us in his presence that our friend would no longer be able to make group reservations due to this mix up. The entire conversation deflected any responsibility of the park’s staff and management. Instead, they chose to attempt to manipulate me into feeling negatable about my handling of the situation. Last I checked, businesses were in the business of making business, not discouraging it. My sister asked what the penalty would be to cancel Labor Day and Halloween weekend. She responded that we would lose all of money we paid. Which is a lie. You are only penalized one day. However, this all could have been avoided had they sent us confirmation emails when we called in to pay. Or, Steven Pozsgay supported his employee’s way of handling the situation. Even if he would have come to me and said, she made a mistake. But no, he chose to be abrasive and inflammatory. Every year since Steven Pozsgay has taken over as manager there has been an issue with him. He is abrasive and confrontational. His management skills are poor at best. For over a year, the dump station was not operable, and he refused for campers without full hook up to dump in the full hook up lots that were vacant. If it weren’t for the location being on Lake Huron, he would lose considerable amount of business. We will finish our current reservations at Forester Campground but won’t schedule any further vacations there. We will only return when Seven Pozsgay is no longer the manager.
ScoutFirst, some seasonal residents were extremely helpful with our campfire woes. All of the neighbors and their kids were awesome.
We chose this campground because it was close to our home and it was a short trip for our opening weekend.
The store, staff, and ice cream shop were great. We even bought t-shirts to commemorate!
The price was reasonable for 2 nights on memorial day weekend with full hookups and 30 amps ($40 a night). Water was clean a d strong. No issues with electricity.
Some issues we had that we were not expecting: The sewer and water spigot were on opposite ends of our site. I had to race to Raymond's hardware(also friendly!) in town for a 50 foot fresh water hose before they closed.
We also don't not have a slide out, but our trailer was brushed against a tall tree/bush. If we weren't against the tree, our awning may have been against the opposite neighbors' trailer.
The sewer access was slightly uphill from our site, so that caused some issues as well.
In conclusion: We'd definitely return, but we'd be careful about the site location.

I was fortunate to get full hookup however the bathhouse in C section is the pits. I will not use the showers in this section. Section A showers are a possibility.
TravelerI love the fact it is close to home. We live in Fort Gratiot so when I have a work weekend we can just hook up and pull the camper up to the lakeside campground and enjoy some peace. The sites are very spacious in size and a few provide full hookups. There is some hiking available and the beach is right there to enjoy. Staff seems friendly and we never had any issues with them or any of the campers on site. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the wooded area and a nice campfire, so this is a nice place for us.
LegendI had intended to stay at nearby Lakeport State Park, but they were full and this was a happy alternative. The park is quieter, and the campsites are under tall pines instead of out in an open field. Full immaculate restrooms and showers. Beach area adjacent and park with playground and picnic area. Wonderful to be near Lake Huron! Nearby town of Lexington has stores and cafes. We tent camped; there is a section for small RVs also, with electric or electric and water hookups. I would choose this lovely campground over Lakeport!

Let’s start by being positive. This place has some amazing views along the St. Clair River. The freighter traffic did not disappoint. We saw at least 4 during our 2-night stay and the sunrise we witnessed from our site could have been a postcard.
The site was sizable with some care taken to abate some puddles, but unfortunately those who previously used our site tore it up significantly at the entrance. We drove around it, but had a hard time imagining the what kind of situation would have resulted in such a deep gaping hole that held about a foot of water!?!
Since this is well beyond normal camping season here in Michigan we understand staffing levels are going to be low but they still charge the same price regardless of that. The newer, cleaner, and nicer facilities were closed up for the season and they directed us to the old, out-dated, and less cared for facilities on the north end of the campground. Since staffing levels are low for off season I could understand that, but please take care to clean them. Cob webs, old dead insects, and dilapidated doors and decor showed severe signs of use and neglect.
Next, we were super excited to bring our brand new trailer to camp here but could not believe the disrepair of the campground roads. Sooo many ruts that I was deeply concerned for the undercarriage of both my truck and camper. Again, they are charging the same state fees as some of the nicer campgrounds we’ve stayed at, but the roads were inexcusable for a campground. People pay thousands for their camping equipment and gear and these roads put those investments at great risk.
We will go back but only for convenience (location to our home) and the gorgeous views…NOT for the accommodations.

This is the second time staying in these campgrounds in two weeks. Both times stayed in the more wilderness area D with lots of trees and sites for tents or back-in trailers. The grounds are huge with bike/hike trails, a lake and a disc golf course. Mountain biking seems to be very popular there are dirt trails off the paved hiking loop. Sites have electricity and water and are well spaced out.
ScoutThe the campground is relatively flat, many spaces to choose from, very catering to RV and travel trailer. They do have a primitive area for tent campers. The bathrooms are absolutely beautiful. What’s not to like if you have kids or grandkids. Great shallow pool, splash pad, water slides, mini-golf, trampoline area, sandy beachfront, close to Lake Huron, ice cream, pizza, stocked general store, arcade, peddle cars. I mean this place is great. For the adults the sites are large, most have water, electric AND SEWER. You can have firewood delivered to your site. The place is very well designed and laid out for easy access to everything. Slightly expensive but so worth it for families that want a low cost vacation. For those that don’t have a trailer you can bring a tent but there are beautiful small and also larger deluxe cabins.
The negatives - bad WiFi but what campground has good WiFi? Limited showers. They are nice but just not enough of them for the number of people that are here.

Always a great local retreat away from our hectic daily life. Don’t have to travel far to find some nature. Most sites generously sized, hookups available, clean restrooms. Nice updated playgrounds for the kids, trails to bike, planned activities on weekends. Only wish there was a swimming lake, but alas, only for fishing and canoeing.

The smallest KOA we have been to but it was a nice change. The new owner helped us back into our site - he was very nice and enthusiastic. Pizza delivery on a rainy night was a nice touch. We will definitely come back when it is warm enough to swim in the lake!
ScoutThis place is amazing! I have been faithfully coming here since I was a child. We had our annual camping trips usually around the end of June and again in the middle to end of September and I looked so forward to it and once got there never wanted to leave. Now my husband and I bring our son here and he’s hooked, doesn’t want to leave. They are right on beautiful Lake Huron with a sandy beaches and clean clear water. They have tons of campsites with electronic hook ups and fresh water spouts throughout the park. The bathrooms are updated and clean with enough room so you don’t have to wait. They have a lovely camp store right by the beach with all kinds of goodies. Miles of hiking trails and on the weekend activities every couple hours for the kids. Love this place!

ScoutA fantastic state park to enjoy the view of the river, bonfires and meet people. They also have a range for archery, and firearms. The park was kept clean. A group of friends camped on Mother's Day weekend and we all had a great time even with the rain, breaking inall our new trailers.
GuideThis is a private campground located on on the shores of Lake Huron. There are primitive sites for tent camping in the rear of the park, most primitive spots are wooded & near neighboring houses. The main park stays busy with rvs & lot's of family oriented folk. There is a camp store with ice cream & popcorn as well as camping needs. The overall feeling of the camp is crammed but one can easily overlook the crowds once enjoying the beach. This campground offers showers, toilets and has a nice old school merry go round in it's park. I usually visit once a summer. Great place to bring kids.

RangerI have stayed at this park in the past, but feel my review could have been a little deeper. I have to start out by saying, I love this campground. I love that it is near the water and that it has paved pads in the south part of the campground. I love that it is near a town that has pretty much everything you need (restaurants, groceries, bars, lighthouses, etc). I can honestly say that this park is my top ten of campgrounds in the State of Michigan campgrounds that I have been to.
Here is the deeper review. There are two sections to this campground. The northern section seems to be the louder section and the southern section seems to be the more laid back quiet section. We have only ever stayed in the south section, but we always ride our bikes to the north second. The south section has more of a woodsy outdoor feel while the north section has more of an open space, smaller lots, crowded feel. It depends on what type of camper you are as to where you will want to camp. I have to say that if I were with a group of friends or family, I would probably book the northern part as it does have more of an upbeat party feel, but for the most part, there are just two of us that camp. Both sections have access to the beach, but the northern section is closer to the beach. The Northern section also has a camp store, which I have never seen at a state of Michigan campground. The store has absolutely everything! They have milk, eggs, bread, buns, bug spray, postcards, toys, and ice cream. I made several trips to the store and the ladies working were very friendly!
The first day that we rode our bikes to the store, there was a little tiff between a couple campers and one of the men came into the store and asked for the park ranger to come to their site. It appears that the man who was camped behind the man’s lot had several kids on their site and those kids kept cutting through the campsite to walk to the beach and the store. I did not stick around to see what happened, but when we rode our bikes back a few days later, they were still there.
I have to say that the northern side has TONS of children. If you have kids or do not mind kids running around everywhere, this is the side for you! If you want peace and quiet, stay in the south section!
Let’s talk about the dump station. This is one of the weirdest dump stations I have seen at a state park. When you pull into the park, the south campground is to the right, just beyond the check in building, but the north section is about half mile or so north, on the right. The dump station is at the north campground and to get to it, you have to enter the north campground and drive all the way through it, come back out, and then go to the dump station! It is the weirdest set up ever. I guess you could skip going through the north campground and just head to the dump station, but that means you would be cutting in line! There are two bays, but I feel like this is the only park that I have had to wait at! I am not sure if it is because the park is always full or if people here are just slow at dumping their tanks! LOL. If you are considering staying in the North Section, you may not want to stay in 83-110 as those are on the path that all the RV’s take to the dump station.
The bathhouse in the northern park is the typical State of MI campground, however the bathhouse in the southern campground is the older style.
This state park is right on Lake Huron and if you are interested in watching freighters, bring a chair and binoculars, and sit on the beach! This beach is mostly rocks and I have to say that I have found the most Petoskey stones (State of Michigan Stone) and pudding stones (a conglomerate of rocks with jasper sticking onto the rock).
If you like exploring, you can visit Port Huron and drove over to Canada on the Blue Water Bridge or just sit on the boardwalk in PH and watch the freighters drove by. I would definitely stay at this campground again, but I wanted to point out how different the north and south sections feel. Peace and quiet awaits in the south section while loud and cramped camping is at the northern section.
Side note, this campground is ALWAYS busy! When we were there last weekend, we asked at the front bldg. why the website said the campground was full, but there were several openings in the south section. The workers said that they have to upgrade the electrical system this fall on the southern side and they have closed some campsites in the south in order to help with the electricity issue. Apparently, some sites were losing power because there wasn’t enough energy to support all of the lots in the southern side. The northern side was already done.
TravelerWe stayed in area A in a water/electric site. It was a Boo Fest weekend. Lots of socially distanced activities for the kids and a scavenger hunt (finding clues on signs in park to solve a mystery). There 26 miles of bike trails and hiking. Many in park are paved. Also a disc golf course. Sites in our area were spacious.

GuideYou get electric, period. Dump station available, potable water available there, as well as various spigots within the park. Beach ok but narrow. Firewood available, with free loaner wagons to get it to your site. I found the west side of the park a lot noisier than the east. The separate south campground was closed for repair, so I can't speak to that. Be aware that in summer, thousands of tentworms will be on virtually every tree, often falling on you when you're sitting around. They get on your awning, so be careful before rolling it up.
GuideThis is a great family campground. I’ve only stayed in section D with my tent. It is heavily wooded and I don’t see my neighbors in section D. Cell phone tower is close by. We especially enjoy the intermediate level mountain bike trails. Showers are hot. Lots of deer to see at dusk.

While the evenings got cool, the fire pits were great, the other campers were all friendly to us, and the facilities were more than adequate. Our site was level and clean. We loved the beach area even though it was too chilly for a swim, the ambiance of smelling campfires while watching the rolling waves crash in was great! Several great places for a hammock as well!
TravelerLakeport state park, is it fun? Is there things to do? How’s the beach? We’ll I tell ya. This park is kept super clean! The bathrooms were kept up well and the showers were squeaky clean with warm water running the whole shower. The beach was rocky so don’t forget to pack some water shoes but the rocky beach comes with finding cool rocks to either paint or just collect! (We left with a whole cooler filled) There is trails to ride your bike around and two playgrounds to keep the kids busy. It was my first camp at a state park and I was highly impressed. So if you’re in the port Huron area or only a couple hours away and want a nice relaxing get away in some good ole out doors but have electricity & bathrooms then I would highly recommend lakeport!
