    Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

    Pros:

    ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

    ·        Close to interstate for easy access

    ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

    ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

    ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

    Cons:

    ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

    ·        No trees for shade or privacy

    ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

    ·        Many campers are long-term

    ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

McGinnis Lake Modern Campground — Holly Recreation Area

The State of Michigan has dropped the ball…

No sewer or dumps is available at this campground (April 2022). You will have to dump elsewhere. If there was a memo I missed it. Made reservation in winter 2021. Had great Verizon and ok TMobile service. Site itself was easy to level and adequate for our big rig. It was one of 4 50 amp sites in the park. Nice large grassy site and the park was not very full.

    Frankenmuth Jellystone Park

Fun RV park and very close to downtown

Our site was averaged out to $82.71 a night with the weekly rate discount.

We were in Site# 306 (a deluxe plus RV site - be aware that some of these are back-ins and not clearly labeled on the site map - we had to change sites to a pull-thru). We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with zero trees. We weren’t able to sit outside because of the direct sun until after 8:30pm.
This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The deluxe plus lot comes without a concrete patio but with a picnic table and fire ring. They do sell firewood and will deliver to your site.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are quite a few channel options.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent pedal bikes. They do not provide golf cart rentals.

They do have a heated indoor and heated outdoor Swimming pool and one hot tub.

There is a Playground. They also offer Gaga ball, basketball sport court, and volleyball courts. There is a Game room for kids. They have a Putt putt course and Jumping pad.

They have a great general store. There is a separate Activity Center for kids.
There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like wagon rides, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, etc. Activities are scheduled all day from 9am to 8pm.

There is a snack bar on site from 4pm-9:30pm where you can get hot dogs, brats, pretzels, nachos, ice cream, etc.

The streets are mostly paved and good for riding bikes.

This is an RV park with cabins to rent also. Tent camping is also allowed.

They have two shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine in the arcade room. There are approximately 4washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.75 to wash and $0.75 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Flies were an issue and bug spray was needed.

There were no trails to hike off of the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are Frankenmuth FunShips (chocolate & wine tasting), the Golden Ticket Trolley, the Bavarian Belle (popcorn & sodas) River Place Shops, wineries, and Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland store. This RV park is less than a mile to downtown/River Place Shops where there is tons of shopping.

    Pine Ridge RV Campground

Lots of tall pines and hardwoods providing good cover

Nice pull through sites, some are tight, but none are impossible. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. There’s private land on either side and a dirt bike track that the neighbor owns on the north end, so if you’ve got a light afternoon napper, stay away from that end. Clean facilities, close to attractions and highway. Overall a good spot to stay

    Groveland Oaks County Park

    Kid friendly

This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds. Full hookup area is away from most of the weekend traffic with a short cut to get to where all the kids stuff is located. I think it is a little pricier than most monthly rentals in southeast Michigan. We chose for the convenient location for spending the weekends. Our campsite was a little difficult to get into because it was on a curve and there was a seasonal camper with a Class A right across from our site which didn’t allow for a lot of space to maneuver our 26 ft travel trailer. It was, however, fairly close to the park and restrooms.

    Bay County Fairgrounds

    Great location and quiet

We stayed here 2 years ago.  The office where payment is made is a few miles away from the actual campground.

There is a dump station and water at the fairgrounds.  Along the left side near the dump / water station as you enter are huge grassy sites marked by electrical outlets at the rear of the sites. The rest of the fairgrounds are set up like  a traditional campground on a "loop" style.  It looks like almost all the sites will accommodate a 40 footer easily.

There were 2 or 3 campers who appeared to be long term seasonal guests but it did not distract from our overall stay.

We pull an Imagine 2500RL pulled by a Ford F-150 max trailer package.

We stayed 4 nights and spent the days traveling around Bay City.

Founds a great BBQ that had been shared by MI PLAYGROUND ---  Meaty's Roadhouse BBQ& Sausage Shack Bay City.
We are planning our Summer 2024 travels and will; be stopping at the Bay County Fairgrounds again this summer.

Bruin Lake Campground — Pinckney Recreation Area

    Bruin Lake Campground

Wonderful place even when it’s packed. Harder to get reservations over the years but always a great place to stay. Awesome bathrooms newly renovated. Nice spots. Mostly paved in the lower sites. Nice swimming area however no beach sand. Just a grassy area. Public boat launch on Bruin lake. Bruin lake connects to a few more lakes creating a nice chain of lakes. Half moon at the end of the chain is a great all sports lake. Awesome fishing. Sites have electric, no water. There is a dump station. Wood and ice available for purchase and a few vending machines. Nice hiking trails. They do have a few hike in yurts and hike in camping sites. Decent parking places for those hike ins.

    Hell Creek Ranch & Campground

Great, clean private campground with easy access to the state parks.

This was our first time staying here. Great private campground with rustic, elec, water/elec (30 amp), and concrete pad sites. Very clean campground with nice shower house. Owners are very friendly. Direct connections to the Waterloo Pinckney trail system. Near Hell, Michigan and Chelsea, Michigan. Large pool in season. Priced reasonably.

Guide to Grand Blanc

Camping options near Grand Blanc, Michigan include both established RV parks and tent camping within a 30-mile radius. The area features several lakes and wooded sites, with most campgrounds operating seasonally from April through October. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-85°F with occasional thunderstorms, while spring and fall camping brings cooler temperatures around 50-70°F with less crowding at popular sites.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Multiple lakes at Seven Lakes State Park Campground offer fishing options. "Seven Lakes has a great hike that takes you all around the lake, as well as smaller loops. You can find challenging hikes or an easy path," notes Maggie M. The lakes are popular for catching various fish species.

Beach activities: Sand Lake at Seven Lakes State Park provides swimming options with clear water. According to Andy B., "Sand Lake was our spot and the water was breath taking - it's a small pond really, but great for kayaking. Crystal clear, clean water, a good public beach."

Winter camping: While most area campgrounds close seasonally, limited winter options exist. Holts RV Sites and Mobile Home Court in Flint remains open year-round, offering full hookup sites for cold-weather camping within 15 minutes of Grand Blanc.

Biking trails: Several parks maintain dedicated cycling paths. Groveland Oaks County Park features biking trails plus a specialized BMX area for more experienced riders. Several campground reviews mention family-friendly bike paths suitable for children of various skill levels.

What campers like

Privacy levels: Campsite privacy varies significantly throughout the region. At Holly Recreation Area, "Sites were spacious, we loved the national forest," reports David S. The Maple loop receives particular praise with "several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees."

Shaded sites: Tree cover is important for summer comfort. Mitchell C. notes that Pine Ridge RV Campground has "Lots of tall pines and hardwoods providing good cover," making it suitable for hot weather camping, particularly in July and August when temperatures frequently exceed 80°F.

Clean bathrooms: Facility maintenance receives consistent mention in reviews. Dawn W. states about Pine Ridge RV Campground, "The bathrooms are key for me and are very clean. There shower are private and are quarter operated." Similarly, at Holly Recreation Area, "Bathrooms are clean and it has hot showers and a place to do your dishes as well."

Lake access: Direct water access from campsites is highly valued. For sites along Holloway Reservoir at Wolverine Campground, campers appreciate lakefront positioning. "This campground is located on the north shore of Holloway reservoir... It has a beach boat launch ne the lake is great for walleye," reports C P.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds close for winter. According to Mike M., Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park is "Closed 11/1 thru 4/1." Most other facilities close between late October and early May, limiting cold-weather options.

Cell reception challenges: Internet connectivity can be problematic. At Haas Lake Park RV Campground, camper Neil T. reports "Cell signal(Verizon): 1 bar. No internet loads. Text messages will send and receive. Sometimes immediately, sometimes hours later."

Extension cord requirements: Power post locations vary significantly. Jennifer notes about Wolverine Campground, "If you're in a camper, make sure you have an extension cord. The power is quite a ways away." Several campers recommend bringing 25-50 foot extensions to reach electrical hookups.

Reservation difficulties: Some campgrounds lack online booking systems. According to Kristin T., Pine Ridge RV Campground staff are "very difficult to get ahold of via phone prior to visit," suggesting early planning for popular summer weekends.

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Multiple campgrounds offer play structures. Groveland Oaks County Park receives consistent praise for child-friendly amenities. "This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds," reports Debbie H.

Swimming beaches: Sandy beaches are available at several parks. Seven Lakes State Park features "a good public beach" according to campers, while Groveland Oaks County Park includes a water slide that children particularly enjoy during hot summer days.

Family-oriented activities: Organized events occur regularly at certain campgrounds. Mike N. notes that Groveland Oaks is a "Family friendly filled with well organized activities," making it popular for holiday weekend camping with children of various ages.

Tent camping limitations: Not all sites accommodate tent camping. One reviewer reported Wayne County Fairgrounds has "no tent camping," while several other RV-focused parks limit or prohibit tent setups, important information for families planning mixed accommodations.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling needs: Terrain varies across campgrounds. At Seven Lakes State Park, Edward C. notes, "Sites tend to slope towards Sand Lake so have leveling blocks if that's important to you," suggesting RVers bring adequate leveling equipment.

Pull-through accessibility: Larger rigs require specific site considerations. At Haas Lake Park RV Campground, John C. mentions enjoying their "lakefront full hookup" site, while other campers note varying degrees of accessibility for large motorhomes and fifth wheels.

Site selection strategy: Space between campsites varies significantly. Kristin T. observes at Pine Ridge RV Campground, "Some camp sites are squished up to others. Other camp sites have plenty of room. So when you are stuck in a spot that is tight it kind of ruins the experience." She suggests asking specifically about site dimensions when making reservations.

Water access limitations: Full hookups aren't available at all campgrounds. Jennifer from Wolverine Campground notes, "There is no internet or WiFi access. The camping spaces are VERY close together so it is very cramped," highlighting the importance of researching specific amenities before arrival.
