    Addison Oaks County Park

    Huge, clean, and great fun!

We stayed in one of the group sites and it was beautiful. Less tree cover than we would have liked, you're basically in a giant grassy field, but it was perfect for a large group. we did have to share a pavilion with a group of older campers (celebrating a 90th birthday. Our group was there to celebrate my 30th) but it turned out perfectly as they did early dinners and went to bed in their campers.

The beach is nice, a little small, but clean and fun (would be nice if your pets were allowed to swim also).

The only real negative I have is that for each group site there is a single fire pit. This made cooking, sitting around the fire, and many other things quite difficult. There IS a large charcoal grill that can be used, but if you're doing separate meals, it will be hard to coordinate.

    Lakeport State Park Campground

    Close To Home

I love the fact it is close to home. We live in Fort Gratiot so when I have a work weekend we can just hook up and pull the camper up to the lakeside campground and enjoy some peace. The sites are very spacious in size and a few provide full hookups. There is some hiking available and the beach is right there to enjoy. Staff seems friendly and we never had any issues with them or any of the campers on site. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the wooded area and a nice campfire, so this is a nice place for us.

    Lakeport State Park Campground

    Great little park...

We had a blast tenting with some friends in September!  While the evenings got cool, the fire pits were great, the other campers were all friendly to us, and the facilities were more than adequate.  Our site was level and clean.  We loved the beach area even though it was too chilly for a swim, the ambiance of smelling campfires while watching the rolling waves crash in was great!  Several great places for a hammock as well!

    Port Huron KOA

    Glamping

Tons to for kids, multiple pools including a zero entry, jumping pillow, ice cream stores, old west town hayrides, train rides($), multiple parks, and next to small water park. Campground is peaceful during week- due to cabins can be very roudy and crowded on weekends. Owner is very strict but tons of staff always on site to help.

    Addison Oaks County Park

    Friendly? Spacious lots of activities

We stayed in area A in a water/electric site. It was a Boo Fest weekend. Lots of socially distanced activities for the kids and a scavenger hunt (finding clues on signs in park to solve a mystery). There 26 miles of bike trails and hiking. Many in park are paved. Also a disc golf course. Sites in our area were spacious.

Park was clean, guests well behaved, staff helpful. We will be back

    Port Huron KOA

    Total insanity

Hundreds of unsupervised rug-rats swarming like locust over all the roads without looking where they were going. Boom boxes blaring rap music in competition among sites. Crowded sites so close to one another it was hard to tell were one started and another ended. Would rather sleep in the median of a highway than stay here again.

    KOA Campground Emmett

    Bed bugs in cabins

Avoid this KOA at all costs– bed bugs and dishonest management. Our stay at the Emmett KOA was a nightmare. The cabin we rented was infested with bed bugs. When we brought it up, the owner flat-out lied and told us they hadn’t had bed bugs in“over 13 years.” That was absolutely false. There are multiple reviews on here already citing bed bug issues, and staff members themselves admitted to us that it has been an ongoing problem. Even the pest control company they claimed to use confirmed they’ve been battling bed bugs here. Instead of taking responsibility, management hid behind their ridiculous 14-day cancellation policy and refused to refund our second night(which we didn’t stay for obvious reasons). Their“solution” was insulting: a 20% discount for a future stay(as if anyone would want to come back!) and a handful of quarters so we could attempt to kill the bugs in our belongings using their dryer. The dishonesty from Toni and her father is appalling. Any business that knowingly lies to its customers about a health and cleanliness issue this serious has no integrity. Bed bugs are not a minor inconvenience– they spread, they infest, and they follow you home. We left disgusted and disappointed, and I strongly recommend avoiding this campground if you value your health, honesty, or basic respect as a paying customer.

Marysville, Michigan sits along the St. Clair River at an elevation of around 600 feet with a humid continental climate featuring warm summers and cold winters. Camping options in this area range from rustic sites to upscale accommodations, with most campgrounds open seasonally from May through October due to Michigan's northern climate patterns. Local campsites typically feature sandy or grassy terrain with varying degrees of tree coverage.

What to do

Water activities at Lakeport State Park: Located on Lake Huron, the park offers excellent rock collecting opportunities along its shoreline. "This place is amazing! I have been faithfully coming here since I was a child... They are right on beautiful Lake Huron with sandy beaches and clean clear water," notes Andrea W. The rocky shoreline is known for its unique stones.

Disc golf at Addison Oaks County Park: The park maintains a complete disc golf course alongside its camping facilities. "I enjoyed the trails, disc golf and overall wonderful Park staff! Extremely clean and well-kept," reports Joe S. The course is accessible to players of various skill levels.

Fishing at Emmett KOA: The campground offers fishing opportunities in its lake. "Fishing is great! Beach is big and clean," mentions Chelsea. Visitors can bring their own gear or sometimes rent equipment on-site depending on seasonal availability.

What campers like

Rock collecting at Lakeport State Park: The shoreline is known for its rock hunting opportunities. "I have found the most beautiful Petoskey Stones at Lakeport. I have also found a large pudding stone. My husband brings his chair down to the water and I walk the short shore for hours and hours looking for rocks," shares Stephanie C.

Trails at Addison Oaks County Park: The park features extensive trail systems for hiking and biking. "The park has a beautiful 2.5 mile trail around the lake that makes this campground great. We brought our own kayaks but they do rent boats. We saw deer and rabbit," notes Karen C.

Glamping close to Marysville, Michigan at Ruby Campground: This smaller camping venue offers a more intimate glamping experience. "Ruby is a fitting name for this gem. This is the most wholesome cute campground I've ever been to. It has a family owned summer camp vibe and the owners are very kind and helpful," explains Sean H.

What you should know

Lakeport State Park sections vary significantly: The park is divided into distinct camping areas with different atmospheres. "There are two sections to this campground. The northern section seems to be the louder section and the southern section seems to be the more laid back quiet section... The south section has more of a woodsy outdoor feel while the north section has more of an open space, smaller lots, crowded feel," advises Stephanie C.

Terrain conditions at Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area: The campground has notable soil conditions to consider. "The park is extremely sandy so be prepared," warns Mandy B. This affects tent stakes, equipment, and general comfort levels.

Seasonal booking requirements: Many local campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. "This is our favorite campground! On the smaller side but perfect for our small family... We go here twice a year with friends and kids," states Chelsea about Emmett KOA. Most local glamping options near Marysville require reservations months in advance for summer weekends.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access at Emmett KOA: The campground provides swimming facilities for children. "My daughter and I had a great time here. We went during the week so it was not packed. Nice workers help with anything asked. Food from the snack shack was good," shares Gary E.

Halloween camping events: Several campgrounds offer special seasonal activities. "We love this campground. There is a ton to do for all ages. The kids keep busy all day long!" states Christopher R. about Emmett KOA's Halloween programming.

Tips from RVers

Site selection at Port Huron KOA: Certain sites offer more privacy and space than others. "We stayed a couple times this summer. First time was site 74, it was a grassy site that wasn't bad but had no shade. Second time we stayed in site 54 which was great. If you're in a camper I'd recommend sites 54,179,180. Those sites have a bit of a backyard to them and more space," advises Alex H.

Hookup options at Oakland County Addison Oaks: The campground provides essential services for RVs. "This is the second time staying in these campgrounds in two weeks. Both times stayed in the more wilderness area D with lots of trees and sites for tents or back-in trailers. Sites have electricity and water and are well spaced out," notes Richard T.

Wi-Fi considerations for luxury glamping near Marysville: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds. "Plenty of friendly staff. The site offers a lot of activities including pools, put put golf and play areas for the kids... WiFi is slow but stable. You probably won't be able to watch Netflix. AT&T service is terrible. Our friends have T-Mobile and it is very fast for them," explains Joe S. about Port Huron KOA.
