"The island is pretty well known as a party island so we generally only camp here off-season now. There is a lot to see and explore like the caves, the monument in the world famous bars," shares a visitor to South Bass Island State Park.

"One of my favorite things about this campground is that your spots are close together which is great for safety, however with the bushes and brush, it feels super private. "The park held social events, such as an ice cream social and coffee and pastries several mornings," mentions one camper at Harbortown RV Resort, where seasonal activities include "Tons of activities for all ages during the weekends."
Flat biking terrain: The region's geography creates ideal conditions for cycling. "It is also an amazing place to ride bikes, everything is flat and there are also plenty of bike paths. You are also close to the lake which I love," shares a Maumee Bay visitor who recommends bringing plenty of bug spray in summer.

May fly season considerations: Plan for insect hatches during certain periods. "First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid June) and covered everything. Good size sites, friendly staff, great beach and boat launch," reports a Sterling State Park camper.

Sunday morning's line at the dump station can get very backed up!" notes a visitor to Kelleys Island State Park, where another camper mentioned "Bathrooms are ok, mostly clean nothing special. Weather preparedness: Lake effect conditions can change quickly. "My only tip would be to bring plenty of bug spray in the summer, there are lots of bugs that come off the lake. Also make sure you bring jackets and blankets, even in the summer it can get pretty cool in the evening," advises a Maumee Bay camper.

Halloween weekend events: Special seasonal activities appeal to families. "We've been going to this campground for years, but mainly for the Halloween camping. It's a fun time of the year to go and the kids always have a blast. Most sites decorate and some site go all out with haunted houses," describes a visitor to Monroe-Toledo North KOA.
Nature programming: Educational opportunities exist for children. "Good size sites, friendly staff, great beach and boat launch," reports a Sterling State Park camper, while others note the available wildlife viewing areas and fishing spots suitable for children.

"All sites are very generous in size and appear to be spaced with a decent amount of space apart with foliage providing varying levels of privacy.
