    Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

    Pros:

    ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

    ·        Close to interstate for easy access

    ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

    ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

    ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

    Cons:

    ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

    ·        No trees for shade or privacy

    ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

    ·        Many campers are long-term

    ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

    Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA

    Small basic campground near Toledo

Our site was $59.95 a night.

We were in Site# 504. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level. We were charged $25 additional for my jeep since we were towing the trailer. We also were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. They sell wood for $6 a bundle.

There is free WiFi, although not strong. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily before noon.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool but it is currently closed due to maintenance (although it just looked closed- no signs of maintenance being done).

There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes, corn hole, giant jinga.

They have a basic general store. There are not scheduled activities for kids.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes. This is an RV park with tent camping and cabins to rent.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $2.50 to dry a load.

They have a small fenced in dog park.

There isn’t tons to doin the actual city of Perryville. But Toledo is a 20 minute drive.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

    Ted Ranch Campground

No thrills, largely rustic, family oriented, friendly

This campground is pretty rustic with water and electricity at some sites, no showers or restrooms, a dump station for one at a time, Porta potties scattered around, small beach, small boat launch, mostly appears to be seasonal sites without sewer or rustic sites. Some but not a lot of shade, rolling fields being made into smaller sized sites. Dogs and dogs pens are allowed, and they do not appear to have parents who are attentive or keep them from barking. Friendly staff and family of four owners.

Guide to Luna Pier

Sterling State Park Campground is the closest public campground to Luna Pier, Michigan, located approximately 7 miles north along Lake Erie's western shoreline. The park sits at 575 feet above sea level on relatively flat terrain. Most campgrounds near Luna Pier operate seasonally from April through October or early November, with summer high temperatures averaging 82°F during peak camping season.

What to do

Fishing access: Sterling State Park Campground offers multiple fishing piers and a boat launch for Lake Erie access. "The park is enormous with lots of fishing activities. Showers and restrooms are updated and always clean," notes camper Mano P. The park includes kayak launches into a small inlet navigable all the way to the beach.

Biking trails: The paved paths at Sterling State Park connect to regional routes. "There is a bike path that will take you all the way to the Historic Rasin River Battlefield and then to downtown Monroe," writes Frances V. The multi-use trails are suitable for casual riders and families.

Water recreation: Beaches provide swimming and water play options. "Sandy beach on Lake Erie is very nice," reports Joe S. at Sterling State Park. The smaller inland lake at Sterling is described as "good for kayaking and fishing" by Debra B., providing a calmer alternative to Lake Erie's sometimes choppy waters.

What campers like

Full hookup options: Harbortown RV Resort offers complete utility connections on concrete pads. "All concrete roads and pads. Basketball court, sand volleyball, playground, dog run, batting cages and go karts within walking distance," writes Bill B. This resort features a pool and organized activities, especially during holiday weekends.

Family-friendly amenities: Haas Lake Park RV Campground provides waterfront sites on multiple lakes. "The round area's with the sites on the outside and common area on the inside make for a great group type setup," notes Gary E. about the campground's layout. Madonna F. adds, "Plenty to do and really clean," highlighting the well-maintained grounds.

Level, spacious sites: Many campgrounds prioritize easy setup. "My family and I love this park. Quiet with large level sites. Everything from back ins with only electrical to pull throughs with full hook-ups," writes Matthew F. about Sterling State Park. Sites typically accommodate larger rigs with concrete or asphalt pads and most provide fire rings and picnic tables.

What you should know

Weather and insects: Lake Erie's shoreline experiences seasonal mayfly hatches. "First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid June) and covered everything," reports Kourtney D. about Sterling State Park. Strong winds are common along the lakeshore year-round, with Edward C. noting, "I've never been to this park when it wasn't very windy."

Noise considerations: Camp Lord Willing RV Park & Campground offers a peaceful setting compared to some locations near highways. "This is a very clean and beautiful campground. The employees are very friendly and helpful," writes Albert S. Some campgrounds in the region experience road or train noise due to proximity to transportation corridors.

Limited shade: Many RV campgrounds near Luna Pier, Michigan have younger trees. "Sites are nice and large paved slabs, most trees are immature offering little shade," Nicole A. observes about Sterling State Park. This lack of shade can make summer camping warmer but provides excellent solar access for those with solar panels.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA organizes seasonal events for children. "We've been here a few times. Very close to our house just a nice little getaway. We enjoyed the Halloween weekends. We decorate big and enjoyed other decorations as well!" shares Beth G. Many campgrounds offer themed weekends during summer and fall.

Water safety: Beaches vary in conditions and supervision levels. "Nice state park with clean bathrooms. Bike and walking trails. Also has a smaller lake good for kayaking and fishing," notes Debra B. about Sterling State Park. The smaller lakes typically provide calmer waters for younger children compared to Lake Erie.

Budget-friendly options: Some campgrounds charge extra for amenities. "Next door to putt putt go karts batting cages and arcade - this was pricey but fun," reports Kourtney D. about activities near Harbortown RV Resort. Planning ahead for additional costs helps manage the camping budget.

Tips from RVers

Pull-through convenience: Cedarlane RV Resort accommodates larger motorhomes. "We stayed at this resort when we were not able to get in to the Sandusky KOA. I am so glad that we did. It was amazing," shares Toni Marie C. Most rv campgrounds near Luna Pier, Michigan can handle rigs up to 45 feet with advance reservations.

Highway access: Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot offers convenient overnight stays directly off the turnpike. "Simplicity at its finest. Highway stop is open 24 hrs so you have food and bathrooms all night. Everything is bright, nice and clean and feels very safe," writes Randall K. This unique option provides electricity hookups for $20 with food and fuel available onsite.

Hookup variations: Not all campgrounds offer full services year-round. "The dump station at Sterling State Park is centrally located and easily accessible for larger rigs," according to local information. Jeffrey C. notes that Cedarlane has "RV parking, tent sites and several cabins to rent. Rates are decent."
