Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground welcomes pets at all campsites, including tent, RV, cabin, and glamping accommodations. Campers must keep dogs leashed at all times while exploring the park's trail system and lake access points. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with electrical hookups available at most sites. The campground features clean bathrooms and shower facilities that are well-maintained and regularly serviced. Lansing Cottonwood Campground offers full hookup sites for RVs and primitive camping areas with trees suitable for hammock camping. The primitive sites provide better privacy and shade compared to the more congested RV section. Dogs are permitted throughout the campground but must remain on leash, especially around the softball diamond and fishing ponds.

Multiple hiking trails wind through the woods around Lake Ovid at Sleepy Hollow, providing pet owners with exercise options that range from short loops to longer routes. The lake includes a small dog-friendly swimming area, though reviews note it sometimes contains algae during summer months. Campers should pack extra water for pets as the summer heat can be intense. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park provides pet-friendly camping options with electric and water hookups, though sites offer minimal privacy between neighboring campers. Winter camping is available year-round at Sleepy Hollow and Maple River Campground, giving pet owners four-season access to outdoor recreation. Cell service can be limited in some camping areas, particularly at Sleepy Hollow where Verizon signal is strongest near the beach area.

      Holiday RV Campground

      Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

      Snow Lake Kampground

      Very organized but busy campground

They were very organized at this campground. Every weekend they have a theme. We stayed when they had the country western weekend. They had all kinds of stuff going on for kids. Pony rides, wagon rides, petting zoo, games and activities. They also had a country music concert in the park one evening. The pool was very nice, but we found at times it was extremely busy. It would of been nice if they had a swimming area on the lake but they didn’t. This is a Christian campground so they are very strict on alcohol consumption. On your site only, but not allowed anywhere else in the park. Overall we had an enjoyable stay.

      Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

      Sleepy, as i call it...

Quietly tucked into Clinton co Michigan. Sleepy is easily accessible. Its close to Lansing. There are shopping centers nearby. Country party store is closer!! Very large lake....Ovid is her name! Offers many species of fish for catching!! There are fishing docks, ONE IS NOT VERY ACCESSIBLE TO NON AMBULATORY PERSONS !!! THIS ONE'S IN THE CAMP AREA! The path is nicely groomed. The bea h is a long way from the parking lot a d there is no beach access from camp. The park is usually a clean family place...but for really young children or elderly persons it may. Ot be your first choice. I live nearby and have camped there zillions of times. I love it and shower bouses in camp are clean! Friendly staff a d they ate SERIOUS about quiet time! Bug spray required !!

      Camp Turkeyville RV Resort

Angela in the front office hates people!

This campground would be a 5 star campground. However;as always there’s that one person that makes it a 3 or2. She must be the owners daughter or Neice. I expressed to her that her behavior and curse words along with her statements were not appreciated and she said “ write a review so I can read it and laugh at it” Very trashy lady who made you feel like your just a burden on her.

Besides that. Place had pool, kids pad. Laundry, family showers, individual showers” very clean and nice. Mini Petting farm, train ride and an entire little small village dedicated to entertainment of camping. This is a nice place but beware of the village idiot. She is very unbecoming and impolite by all means.

Deep Lake Rustic Campground — Yankee Springs Recreation Area

      Beautiful Location

First time in central Michigan and it was absolutely beautiful. The campground has a great location and lots of mountain bike and hiking trails. Firewood is not available on site but is at a local convenience store. Boat launch is available at Deep Lake just down the path in the campground. We had 3 locations right next to a playground and we'd probably choose others next time.

      Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

      Disappointing

This was our last stop on a trip where we camped in 6 different Michigan State Parks. This may be an older camp or the DNR was trying to save money when it was built. Most electrical posts are designed to accommodate at least 2 adjoining lots, and as many as 4. This in itself is not a concern until you realize the posts are way too far away to reach without an extension. We tried several lots and couldn’t reach any of the outlets. We finally met a couple who saId they had extensions at the office. So, we finally got set up with an extension cord from the camp office and decided to walk to the beach. Our site was adjacent to the path leading to the beach so we figured we could use a little walk. The path led to another path that led to a parking lot for the beach. After crossing the parking lot we still had to cross a large yard/park that finally opened onto the beach on this small lake. It was all very scenic, but we weren’t expecting a major hike to get to the beach. Showers are nice. They also have a neat ice cream vending machine that I had to check out for scientific purposes only. For a Michigan state park we were quite disappointed.

Bishop Lake Campground — Brighton Recreation Area

      Will definitely come back!

Great family place with paved and dirt biking/hiking trails. Very nice beach with grass and sand. There are 2 areas of inflatables, one of them is for the little kids 48 in. and under. There are no dogs allowed on the sand beach, but there are plenty of grassy areas of lake access to swim with your dogs. The public bathrooms at the campground were very nice, and it was quiet and family friendly in the smaller upper loop we stayed in. It was a short drive, yet off the beaten path, and we would definitely go back.

    Guide to DeWitt

Sleepy Hollow State Park offers camping options surrounding a 410-acre manmade lake, Lake Ovid, located 30 miles northeast of Lansing. The wooded campsites around DeWitt, Michigan sit within the larger 2,678-acre park in central Michigan. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing from December through February, making year-round camping an option for properly equipped visitors.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground provides access to Lake Ovid for anglers seeking various fish species. "Fishing is good here for some largemouth bass, and huge blueguils," notes Michael P., who recommends the park as a "good day excursion" despite higher traffic due to its proximity to urban areas.

Hiking trails: The park includes several miles of maintained paths through wooded areas. According to Jacob B., Sleepy Hollow offers the "best hiking trails within 1 hour drive of the state capital" with options for geocaching also available in the park.

Winter recreation: The DeWitt area supports cold-weather outdoor activities. For visitors seeking winter options, Maple River Campground remains open year-round, with David F. noting "the amount of nature was overwhelming" during his visit, particularly wildlife sightings including "lots of turtles and ducks."

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds near DeWitt offer roomier camping spots than typical commercial operations. At Lansing Cottonwood Campground, Beth S. appreciated her primitive site, noting it "was everything we wanted. We camped in hammocks and had a pretty large site with great trees that could accommodate at least three to four hammocks."

Natural surroundings: The region maintains significant tree cover at many campgrounds. Nathan V. describes Sleepy Hollow's North campsite area: "there is a lot of tree covering, and there are a lot of walnut trees" which provides shade during summer months, though he warns the trees were "shedding a lot this time of the year" during his fall visit.

Wildlife viewing: Dog friendly campgrounds near DeWitt offer opportunities to observe local fauna. At Maple River Campground, visitors report abundant wildlife, especially along the riverfront sites where Alexandra M. noted they "were able to park the camper with the door facing the river" which was "great for fishing, and our dogs had a great time too."

    What you should know

Extension cord needs: Many DeWitt area campgrounds have electrical posts positioned at inconvenient distances from sites. Nathan V. advises Sleepy Hollow visitors to "bring at least 100 feet of extension chord if you want electricity, because the power ports are not as accessible from some areas."

Bathroom facilities: Shower access varies significantly across dog-friendly campgrounds near DeWitt. Ionia State Recreation Area has bathroom facilities that could use improvement according to Joshua E., who noted "There is only one bathroom for the campground so it can be a bit busy and it could probably use an update."

Seasonal considerations: Weather impacts camping comfort significantly. Amy D. reported about her Sleepy Hollow visit: "We stayed during very hot weather at the beginning of July 2020... Our site backed up to trees and I can't recall seeing our neighbors to the left or right. Because we didn't get any shade from the nearby trees we had to run the ac."

    Tips for camping with families

Halloween events: Plan ahead for seasonal programming at area campgrounds. Stephanie C. shares that at Sleepy Hollow "Every year they put together an awesome Halloween trick or treat weekend, but be sure to book the day of six months before because otherwise you will not get a site."

Beach access: Most pet-friendly campgrounds near DeWitt with swimming areas require some walking. Walnut Hills Family Campground offers water recreation options, and as Paula W. describes at another local campground, "The water was inviting and there were plenty of beach chairs and you could rent a paddle boat for the afternoon at the office."

Activities for kids: Several campgrounds offer recreational options beyond hiking. Patrick B. describes Walnut Hills as a "Mature park, friendly staff, things to do for all ages!" while Karen P. adds it's "all about family camping. There is swimming, some fishing, camp store, & activities for the kids!"

    Tips from RVers

Site unevenness: Many campgrounds near DeWitt have natural terrain that requires leveling equipment. At Eaton County Fairgrounds, RVers find "large bath house with Showers. No office in park, so find a space and park. The manager will stop by to collect your $20," according to Northstorm T., who appreciates it's "Confidently located a mile outside of Charlotte, with all the conviences of restraunts, walmart, Meijer etc."

Electrical capacity: Sleepy Hollow has electrical limitations during peak season. Amy D. noted "The park needs to upgrade the electrical system as this was putting a strain on their electrical equipment" during a summer heatwave when air conditioning use was high.

Site depth considerations: Several dog-friendly campgrounds near DeWitt have spatial constraints for larger rigs. Joshua E. cautions about Ionia Recreation Area: "The sites are all a little bit shallow especially if you have a larger travel trailer you may find it a bit tight."
