Reservations are available at Murray Lake Campground, one of 25 sites within Brighton State Recreation Area that operates on a drive-in, rustic model at $20 per night. The road into the campground gives pause after rain. Campers with low-clearance vehicles have reported sliding on a hill near the loop, so high-clearance rigs are better suited to wet conditions.
Sites vary considerably in layout and privacy. Some toward the middle of the loop sit close to the road and feel exposed, while those at the far end tend to be more wooded and separated from neighbors. Uneven terrain is common, so tent campers should scout a site carefully before setting up. Mosquitoes are a consistent issue, as the campground sits adjacent to a marsh along Murray Lake. Multiple reviewers arrived to find nearly every neighboring camp already running a screen house.
Mountain bike and hiking trails run directly through the campground, and Murray Lake itself provides a small fishing lake for paddling. Campers can also reach Bishop Lake Campground in a short drive, where a beach and jump island add a swimming option to the itinerary. Showers and dumpsters at the developed Brighton Lake campground are about six minutes away. Cell service runs spotty on Verizon, with slow data but enough signal for notifications.
Bring a thermacell or screen shelter, particularly for summer visits when mosquito pressure is highest.

Check in your campsite reservation and occupy your campsite no later than 3 p.m. one day after your scheduled arrival date to avoid being automatically cancelled. If you need to arrive later, you must adjust your arrival date by calling 1-800-44(PARKS) or by going on-line to www.midnrreservations.com . If you don't check in or update your arrival date, our system will automatically cancel your reservation and youll incur the loss of two nights' fees, the non-refundable reservation fee, $10 cancellation fee and the reduced-stay fee. Staff are unable to override this process.
