Each glamping unit comes equipped with electricity, comfortable beds with linens, and climate control for year-round comfort. Many sites feature private decks overlooking wooded areas, providing a serene retreat while maintaining proximity to urban conveniences. Washington DC/Capitol KOA, just a short drive from Parkville, complements the area's glamping options with their deluxe yurts that include kitchenettes and en-suite bathrooms. Hiking trails within Susquehanna State Park connect glampers directly to natural attractions, with several routes leading to scenic river overlooks and historic sites. Merry Meadows Recreation Farm combines agricultural experiences with upscale accommodations, allowing visitors to participate in farm activities before returning to their climate-controlled yurts. Seasonal considerations impact availability, with most glamping resorts operating from March through November, though Cherry Hill Park maintains year-round glamping options. According to a camper, "We hiked the Green Trail which had amazing river views and was accessible right from our glamping site, making it easy to enjoy nature without sacrificing comfort." Evening programming at several locations includes ranger-led stargazing events and educational presentations about local wildlife and ecology.

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Artillery Ridge Campground

Great campsite. Fire pit, picnic table, swimming pool ( not open), miniature golf course, laundromat, bathrooms, showers, dump station, gathering areas for groups, playground, and even a horse area and stalls for horses. Dog friendly. Staff was very helpful and curious.

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

We booked two nights mid October not realizing that it's duck hunting season and that hunting is allowed RIGHT by the campground - with kids everywhere. We were jolted out of sleep at 5 am by gun fire right near our site. It kept up for the next hour. In addition, the bathrooms, although clean are in poor condition. Peeling paint everywhere with bare concrete in the showers. For such a pretty site, we had a miserable stay. We left after one night.

      Codorus State Park Campground

      Hurricane camping

You just can't beat a pennsylvania park. This one is not an exception. Nice clean restroom, plenty of room. Now, what cost a star. Yes, it rained like hell. When we broke camp and go dump. The dump station was overflowing with sewer. Go to the guard shack to tell them, and find another site. None there. Can I go to an unused full hookup to dump? No! I would have to pay for the site. Two hours later, we found a place to dump for $10.

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

    Guide to Parkville

Yurt camping near Parkville, Maryland offers access to the Chesapeake Bay watershed with elevations ranging from 20 to 300 feet above sea level. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with warm summers averaging 85°F and mild winters with temperatures typically above freezing. Most campgrounds in this area maintain strict quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM regardless of accommodation type.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Susquehanna State Park provides multiple fishing spots along the river with separate areas for shore fishing. "We hiked over a bridge and stream which was full of fish I could see! Turned around after I got to the Susquehanna itself. The river was running pretty high and fast, pretty cool to see," notes one Susquehanna State Park visitor.

Disc golf courses: Codorus State Park maintains two 18-hole disc golf courses with different terrain challenges. "There are two main day use areas: the Conewago day use area on the south side of the lake and the Quaker Race day use area on the north side of the lake. Both areas have their own 18 hole disc golf course," reports a Gifford Pinchot State Park camper.

Paddling excursions: Tuckahoe State Park features a canoe/kayak launch point with direct creek access. "The walk to Tuckahoe Creek from the parking area is very short, and the creek leads to Tuckahoe Lake (no gasoline motors) with more of the creek on the other side of the lake," explains a Tuckahoe State Park visitor.

    What campers like

Private yurt settings: Cherry Hill Park offers yurt accommodations with natural buffers for privacy. "The site was perfectly level with a fire ring, grill, picnic table and table with three chairs. I wish there was a little bit more room in between the campers for privacy but it did not hurt our stay," explains a Cherry Hill Park guest who stayed in a premium site.

Bathroom facilities: Lums Pond maintains individual shower rooms separate from toilet facilities. "The bath house was absolutely immaculate, and the design made even my public-bathroom-phobic sister-in-law comfortable and at ease," shares a visitor to Lums Pond State Park.

Farm-based experiences: Merry Meadows Recreation Farm combines agricultural elements with camping. "Many of the RV sites are wooded which makes it nice. The pool through RV sites are in the centerfield and kind of exposed to the elements but you are right across from the pool and right across from an amazing playground," notes a repeat visitor.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: For popular yurt camping near Parkville, Maryland, advance booking is essential, especially for weekends. "Book early because it fills up fast!" cautions a Lums Pond camper about their yurt options.

Site selection considerations: Request specific sites when booking yurt accommodations or cabins. "I would strongly recommend staying at Merry Meadows, especially if you have an RV and a group of friends to join you! I would not like that it wasn't popular because I read so many disappointing reviews about pretty much everything," shares a Merry Meadows Recreation Farm guest.

Transportation options: Cherry Hill Park provides shuttle services to public transportation. "This is not a site for nature lovers but is perfect for kids. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful," mentions a Washington DC/Capitol KOA visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Request sites near recreational facilities when traveling with children. "We stayed in site #3, it had a nice huge concrete pad and fire ring. We set-up our new tree tent behind the actual campsite and it worked perfectly," reports a Susquehanna camper.

Swimming policies: Verify age restrictions for pool facilities before booking. "I didn't like that non potty trained kids are not allowed to swim in their pool. Luckily we only have a 9 month old currently that isn't potty trained so she didn't care if she was in the pool or not," warns a Washington DC/Capitol KOA guest.

Kid-friendly activities: Many parks offer scheduled children's programming throughout summer months. "The park has a lot that you can do or just relax by the fire. Perfect for families," notes a visitor to Codorus State Park about their yurt and glamping options.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup configurations: Some campgrounds have unusual utility placements. "All are pretty much level. Sites are full hook up with about 5 tent sites," observes a Lums Pond visitor about their site arrangement.

Pad specifications: Campgrounds vary in pad materials and conditions. "Parking pads on the electric loop are asphalt. There's very finely crushed rock on the non-electric loop. This includes the parking pad and tent pad," details a Tuckahoe visitor.

Water supply access: Not all sites have direct water connections. "The web site does not say site 21 is extremely small. We have a 25' camper, and it barely fit, length and with were an issue. The firepit was about 3-4 feet from our door," warns a Tuckahoe State Park camper about site selection.
