Best Campgrounds near Falls of Rough, KY

The campground was really nice and relatively quiet. The staff was fairly nice, and even helped us out with a bit of a Karen camper. The sites have an asphalt pad that are mostly level. 50,30,20 amp service in one box. There was no water at the site though. Throughout the campground are potable water spigots that you can hook up to and add water to your tank. There is also no sewer hookup at the site which I assumed was wrong, because I have never been to an Indiana state park with sewer hookup on site. The campground is at the back of the park so you do have about a 5 minute drive to get to the main highway. Plenty to explore around the area

We needed a spot near Mammoth Cave National Park (which was full). This small City Park in the town of Munfordville, only 25 miles away, fit the bill perfectly. The phone number connects you to their City Hall - they asked for the make, model, color and license plate number of our vehicle (so their police officer would know we belonged there), and told us spots are available on a "first come" basis but are almost always available. In our case, we were the only ones there on a Friday summer night.

The park is delightful: it's by a river, surrounded by trees, and has a paved path circling soccer and disc golf fields, a playground, and four pickleball courts. There also is a 4-mile trail. All of the day users left by 9 pm, and then we had the park to ourselves. It was a very quiet spot.

Access to the park is via a short one-lane road that has some very tight curves. The overnight spots aren't really set up for RVs - those also are accessed via tight turns and there isn't an adequate turnaround space at the end of the access road -- I parked in a spot knowing that I would have to back my 23' trailer down the access road in order to get to back to a larger parking lot area. For smaller RVs and trailers, camping here is manageable and recommended.

People here were kind and trustworthy. People were charging their power stations unattended in the bathrooms. We were given extra wood by our neighbors. Other neighbors notified us when they saw us leaving stuff behind (just wood).

The bathrooms have a cool log cabin-like window at the top. There are trails that leave the campground. Fireflies are great at night. Frogs are singing in the evening. Tons of trees and shade.

Only downside is maybe the camp store closes really early. I think maybe 5? By the time we got there our first day it was closed, so my son was bummed we couldn’t have a fire.

Wow, where to start. We were told that there was a lot of water on the ground from the last few days. We pulled in later than we hoped to, because of stormy weather. When we arrived at 815pm,the storm was raging. I had to wait for a lull to go to the office to get paperwork, then wait again to get back to the truck. I drove around the office and the storm blasted us again, making it impossible to see, so I just pulled into the closest site and called it good. Then the quarter + sized hail joined in. It was a crazy night, with a tornado hitting a town just 28 miles away. So onto the review- Beth is awesome! She said I could stay where I had parked, or move to another site. I chose to move. Because of having to move, she gave me the 1st night free! When I got set up at the new site, I needed to use my extension cord, but the GFI did not work. So Eldon (Beth's husband) brought down a 30a extension cord to use. These folks are simply amazing, caring people. They want everyone to have the best experience possible. ❤️
