Best RV Parks & Resorts near Elizabethtown, KY

Elizabethtown RV parks provide full-service options for motorhome travelers within central Kentucky. Etown RV Park features 190 sites with big-rig friendly access, 50-amp electrical hookups, water, sewer connections, and dump stations. Longview RV Park, located northwest of Elizabethtown, offers pull-through sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections on level gravel pads. Camp Carlson Army RV Park provides water and electric hookups near Fort Knox with paved roads throughout the campground, though most sites are unpaved. Sites at many parks accommodate larger rigs but vary in levelness and spacing between neighbors. "Our site was a spacious pull through with water and up to 50 amp hookups, but we needed a portable waste tank as they have 2/3 hookup," noted one camper about Dog Creek Campground.

Several RV parks in the region remain open year-round while others operate seasonally from May through September. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with some parks offering reliable WiFi connections while others have limited connectivity. Most campgrounds welcome pets but enforce leash requirements. Dump stations are available at all major RV parks, though some campers report challenges with the facilities. "The dump station leaves a lot to be desired. It's a two person operation. One person to use their foot to hold drain open and the other to deal with hose," according to feedback on The Dyrt. Proximity to Mammoth Cave National Park makes the area popular during summer months, requiring advance reservations. Many parks provide showers, laundry facilities, and trash service, though amenities vary widely between basic and premium locations.

Mammoth Cave Campground — Mammoth Cave National Park

    Nature Lovers Paradise

Site 46B is an exceptional site. Extra large with unobstructed views of the woods away from the roads So much to see and do beyond the cave! This campground is set in the woods with lots of hiking and biking trails within walking distance. Yes, the caves are amazing but don’t forget to explore the surface through hiking, horseback riding and kayaking. The campground has lots of tent campers to big rigs and everything in between. Big rig generators can put a major dent into the campground experience unfortunately but it’s still a beautiful family friendly experience. Bath houses were very clean. Sites are level. The dump station leaves a lot to be desired. It’s a two person operation. One person to use their foot to hold drain open and the other to deal with hose. Wish they offered electric at sites but still one of my favorite campgrounds. Very clean friendly and accessible to activities in the park.

    Louisville South KOA

Close to Louisville and Bourbon Tours

The Louisville South KOA is approximately 25 miles south of downtown Louisville in Shepardsville, KY. The location is easy to find off the exit of 65(which also has a Walmart and other stores nearby to resupply).

The campground has both pull through gravel sites, back-in, and tent sites. The sites were close to each other but provided plenty of space for the average sized rig. Many were longer than other KOAs, which enabled the tow vehicle and TT to be parked. Full hook-ups and 30/50 amp services at the sites, some leveling required. The campground store is well stocked and the employees are very friendly.

There is a pool(no hot tub-filled in with stones), play/game area, bounce pillow, and 2 miles of hiking trails around the campground. While the campground was nice, there is a lot of“stuff”(old broken trailers, mowers, etc) laying around the edges and in need of mowing between the sites. These items tend to take away from the overall welcoming feeling of the campground.

This being said, the wifi was strong and it is very convenient to sightseeing around Nashville, especially for the price of$54 per night.

    Buffalo Trace Park

Beautiful lake and well maintained park.

We stayed a few nights at this campground in October.  The campground is made for smaller sizes but we were able to negotiate the main ring road with our 37' travel trailer.  The spot that we had reserved was in an area were we could not get into but we went to the gatehouse and they gave us another spot that was on the main ring road that we were able to park in with no issues.  Cell service was great with Verizon and AT&T service.  The lake was beautiful and the park was well maintained.  Wished the beach, paddle boats, and petting zoo was open...  Still had a great time.  We will surely come back next year when everything is open!!  Had 30 and 50 amp service with water hookups and a dump station at the exit.  Make sure you have plenty of leveling blocks.  We used all of ours and was not level.

    Camp Carlson Army RV Park

    Small quiet dispersed

Very quiet. Two fenced dog runs that were slightly overgrown when we first arrived but were cut when the rain allowed. Paved roads throughout but very few paved sights. WIFI and cell service very limited would advise a antenna for long term. Office personnel were extremely helpful and understanding. I had truck problems and it extended our stay so I just had to move trailer to different site. Ft Knox is just a few miles away.

Overall this is a great FamCamp. Will definitely stay again.

    Cave Country RV Campground

    Cave Country

This RV Park is clean and well maintained. The dog park is beautiful with well trimmed grass and large. They have a nice swimming pool, picnic tables, and fire rings. Nice large gravel pull through site and level. The Mammoth Cave National Park is 10 miles with many other attractions nearby. We stayed for a week and loved it.

    Dog Creek Campground

    Dog creek campground visit

Pleasant campground. Trailers and RVs get water and up to 50 amp hookups. Our 4 night stay has warranted a portable waste tank purchased as they have 2/3 hookup. Very nice sites. 1/4 of them line the waterfront. Ours was a spacious pull through. No real camp store, but an honor system “shed” with firewood, produce, and canned goods. No hiking trails, but they do have a beach, playground, and boat ramp inside the park. Very quiet park. Volunteer “hosts were very nice. Warned us of the dry campus and leash laws. Convenient enough for a trip to Mammoth Cave without trailering primitive in the National park itself. Good stay!

Thousand Trails Diamond Caverns RV & Golf Resort

    Diamond Caverns

Nice resort, some full time sites but most sites are well kept. We were at site A7, back in site, 50 amp full hookup fit our 43ft camper and enough room for our truck. Gravel site backs up to trees. Some smaller sites have cement pads but 30 amp full hook up. Great location if you want to head out to the caves.

Singing Hills RV Park And Campground

    Nice park near Mammoth Cave

Singing Hills is a nice private RV park near Mammoth Cave. We stayed one night. Sites 37, 39-44 are not shady, while the lower numbered sites have shade. The park streets and sites are gravel. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was very friendly. They have a huge selection of DVDs and some fishing poles you can use for free. Stayed in pull through campsite#49 which was not shady but mostly level. It was a gravel site with grass on either side. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are close. The site included: picnic table on grass and fire ring. Utilities: 20/30/50A electric in back. Water in back, good pressure. Sewer in middle with threaded fitting. AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon 1 bar of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 3 Mbps down, 1 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 0.15 Mbps down, 0.13 Mbps up. Free WiFi Speedtest: 24 Mbps down, 15 Mbps up, but frequently drops out. Would stay here again We camped at Singing Hills RV Park& Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Guide to Elizabethtown

Camping options near Elizabethtown, Kentucky, span across several counties within a 40-mile radius of the city. Located in Kentucky's Heartland region at approximately 725 feet above sea level, the area features rolling hills, limestone bedrock, and moderate temperatures that typically range from 40-88°F throughout camping season. The surrounding waterways include three major lakes: Green River Lake, Nolin River Lake, and Rough River Lake.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Green River Lake offers excellent bank fishing access at Holmes Bend where multiple species are active. "Great campground with over 100+ sites. Some are primitive sites but most have water. The best are the hiking trails. It's a short drive or walk thru the woods to trail head. Fishers bend has over 5 miles of trails," notes one camper.

Water activities: Nolin River Lake provides warm water swimming from late spring through early fall at Wax - Nolin River Lake. A camper shared: "The water was very warm and calm. It is off the beaten path and you are about 30 min from a grocery store, so make sure you stock up before you go."

Wildlife viewing: Bird watching opportunities abound near many campgrounds in the region. "Right from our camps we could see a trip of Redheaded Woodpeckers playing as well as a mama Northern Flicker feeding her babies. We even saw a giant Pileated Woodpecker! There were also herons, mourning doves, ravens, and more!"

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently note the cleanliness of Moutardier campground facilities. "The campground was very well manicured and clean. Many of the sites were right on the lake. They were close together but did not seem it as they were on different levels and angles. Everyone was quiet and courteous. Bathrooms were very clean and well lit."

Spacious sites: Visitors appreciate the roominess at many campsites. "At first look even the empty campground appears congested and close together. But it's the long site entrances and the site itself all framed with synthetic timbers with white chat fill. Simply beautiful. Sites were well spaced and spacious with a fire ring and table."

Water views: Many campsites offer direct lake access or views. "This place is amazing with direct view and access to the lake, it was spacious, leveled, had a fire pit, picnic table and small cooking table. Tip: pick a site with trees so you can get some shade as it gets really hot during the day."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer temperatures can reach into the 90s with high humidity. "Very humid and virtually no shade at our site. Would go back!" says one camper about Dog Creek Campground. Thunderstorms are common in spring and summer.

Limited cell service: Connectivity varies significantly throughout the region. "Practically no cell service with Verizon or AT&T," reports one camper. Another mentions: "No cell signal so it's rustic camping which is good for some but not so much when alone."

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds operate from May through September. "Our agenda was one night, but it was so nice we spent two. Other campground should aspire to use the park as a model. We were in loop C and the other loops seemed just as nice."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly fishing: Several campgrounds maintain stocked ponds specifically for children. "The little catch-and-release pond is well-stocked and there is a catfish pay lake across the street, so our boys had plenty of fishing to keep them busy," says a visitor at Singing Hills RV Park And Campground.

Beach access: Many sites offer swimming beaches. "Paved roadways great for biking and walking. Some spaces and turns would be tight for larger rigs. Playground has red clay dirt, so that was a bit messy."

Halloween events: For fall camping, look for special activities. "Family friendly Halloween fun. Has a decorating contest with trick or treat in the campground. Safe and clean with lots of restrooms and lake front sites."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: For RV parks Elizabethtown, Kentucky visitors recommend researching site specifics. At Smith Ridge - Green River Lake, "sites 1-30 are wooded and semi private. 31-80 are set more in a park complete with playground and street lights near the bath house."

Power concerns: Check electrical reliability when booking. "Location was excellent, close to the water. They have a known power issue, 30amp service went out several times at the pole. Their solution was to use less appliances."

Road navigation: Some Elizabethtown area rv parks have challenging access roads. "The road in/out is very narrow, very tight and not easily navigated with a 40' 5th wheel. Also, be very careful about sites, many are extremely undeveloped and while we booked a 70' pull thru, it was actually down on the side of the hill with an almost 90° curve."
