## Overview

Axtel Campground is located on the shore of Rough River Lake in south central Kentucky.   
  
The 5,100-acre lake is a hometown paradise for visitors who love the outdoors, and more than two million visitors camp, picnic, fish, swim, boat and relax on the lake shore each year.

## Recreation

A wide variety of recreational activities and facilities are provided at the lake, including ample opportunities for boating and fishing.   
  
The most sought after fish are bass, crappie and catfish, and bass tournaments occur at the lake throughout the year.   
  
Additionally, pontoon, johnboat and jet ski rentals are available at the nearby marinas.

## Facilities

Axtel Campground is a large facility with 158 campsites, many of which have electric hookups. All campsites provide sweeping views of the lake.   
  
A swimming area, boat ramp, dump station, flush toilets, playground, showers, drinking water, fish-cleaning station, and short trail are also provided.  
  
Wi-fi is available from an outside source at an additional fee

## Natural Features

The rolling, forested hills of rural south central Kentucky offer an extraordinary setting for those who visit the lake. Rough River Lake provides views of ancient sandstone, shale and limestone cliffs.   
  
An abundance of water in the area, both surface and underground, has carved through limestone to create a myriad of sinks and caverns.   
  
The lake itself is home to numerous species of wildlife, including migratory songbirds and waterfowl.

## Nearby Attractions

The historic Green Farm is adjacent to the lake. It consists of about 3,000 acres, a large ancestral home, an old water-powered mill and store and a golf course. George Washington once owned part of the land.   
  
Mammoth Cave National Park, which boasts the longest cave system in the world with more than 240 miles of mapped passageways, is about a one-hour drive away.  
  
Other nearby attractions also include the historic Holt House in Hardinsburg, the Jack Thomas House in Leitchfield, and the new Aquatic Center in Leitchfield.

## Charges & Cancellations

Once a reservation has been created, there will be a $10 fee to cancel your reservation, change sites, or change dates. Cancellations made the day before you are scheduled to arrive through the day after your arrival date will also be charged the first night's use fee. No-show's are charged a $20 fee plus the first night's use fee. If you reservation is for only 1 night, and you have been charged the first night's use fee, there is no $10 or $20 service fee charged.

The park offers thirteen designated backcountry campsites that are accessible only by hiking or horseback.

Backcounty sites are primitive, with only a fire ring and horse hitching posts available.

All sites except McCoy Hollow have a nearby water source, but campers should boil and treat water before drinking, or plan to carry in drinking water.

Campsites are limited to one party up to eight people in size.
Pickup a Backcountry map at the Mammoth Cave Campground information kiosk, or the Visitor Information desk.
Permit Required - $10 per trip. Reservations through Recreation.gov.

Overnight camping is permitted along floodplains and on islands along the Green and Nolin Rivers. Camping in these areas is only accessible by boat.

When camping on floodplains, campers must camp at least ½ mile away from Green River Ferry, Houchin Ferry and Dennison Ferry Day Use Area.

Know where you are. Riverside camping on private lands outside the park may not be permitted.

Sudden rainstorms can cause rapid flooding along riverways and river levels and currents fluctuate dramatically, particularly during winter months. Always check the river level and weather forecast before launching or camping along the rivers.

Permit Required - $10 per trip. Permits available online, up to a week in advance. Permits are subject to cancelation due to river levels. River levels must remain below 20 feet.

For an extended visit or family getaway, there is no  better place than Beech Bend Campgrounds.  Our campgrounds feature almost 500 sites in a beautiful wooded setting.  All roadways are paved.   If you will look at the campground map rows 1-7 are grassy sites, rows 8-17 are paved pull through sites and row 18 are paved back in sites.  Both RV and tent camping are permitted.  We have around 250  campsites that have full hookups.  WIFI service is available for a fee throughout the campground so you can get to the internet without leaving your camper.  Internet Service provider is Fastnet Wireless. The facilities include 2 bath houses & a Laundromat.  You are within a short walking distance to the Barren River (fishing permitted) or to the Beech Bend Amusement Park and Racetracks.  Bring your bicycles and explore.  Campfires are permitted and are just another way you can make yourself at home . . . and enjoy our campgrounds.  Pets are permitted with the only restrictions that they be leashed and cleanup is required. Pets can not be left unattended outside.

Beech Bend Park

One of the most primitive and secluded campsites on Hidden Lake Farms. Located near wet weather creeks, valleys, rock and gully formations. Pitch your tent on over 800 acres of isolated woodland and pastures at Hidden Lake Farms Camping and Retreat. Enjoy the seclusion and wilderness while conveniently located within 15-20 minutes from the small and quaint town of Morgantown, KY where you will find local restaurants, gas, convenience and grocery stores. If you want to venture a little further we are 30 minutes to the larger city of Bowling Green, KY and about an 1 1/2 hour from Nashville, TN. Enjoy hiking through open forestry, natural springs, and wet weather creeks. Spend you days fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming or bird watching on the 60+acre watershed lake. Experience a variety of wildlife including deer, turkey, ducks, geese and Bald Eagles. We offer a variety of extras and experiences including an ATV ride tour of the farm or a guided lakeside hike through open forestry, on which you will view a Bald Eagles nest where numerous sightings have occurred.All Hidden Lake Campsites include access to communal cabin with full bathroom and kitchen area and campground Cook Shack with outdoor grill, full kitchen, coffee maker, pool table, and television.

Located just minutes from the heart of Fort Knox, Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area is the perfect setting for a relaxing escape for your family, Unit or organization. Our property spans 65 acres of natural beauty, with a 25 acre lake that catfish, bluegill, crappie, and bass all call home. Camp Carlson can provide the peace and tranquility only nature brings, so plan your next getaway with us.

We serve all Active Duty Military, Retired Military, National Guard, Reserves, DoD civilians and their Families.

Tent Camping sites have a stay limit of 90 consecutive days between April 1 and September 30. Customers reaching 90 consecutive days must depart for 72 hours.

Camp Carlson has ten furnished Family Cabins all equipped with a bathroom, refrigerator, stove, beds, kitchen table, chairs and a living room. Additionally, dishes, glasses, silverware, a coffee maker, pots and pans are furnished by the campground. Guest must furnish their own linens (sheets, towels, blankets, wash rags, & pillows). Family cabins have satellite TV service. Sorry, no pets allowed.

## Overview

Bailey's Point campground is the largest of the Army Corps of Engineers' campgrounds on Barren River Lake. This campground offers several waterfront campsites with scenic views of the lake. Though the campground is one of the largest, you won't know it. There is room to roam, five camping loops with diverse scenery, and private coves for swimming or mooring your boat. You are sure to find a site that's your escape to nature and relaxation.

## Recreation

Baileys Point has a boat ramp for access to prime fishing, water skiing and boating. Several islands in proximity to the campground are great for a quick picnic getaway by boat.  
  
Birding is also a popular activity with a variety of species including kestrels, indigo buntings, bald eagles and at night you can hear the calls of barred owls.  
  
Hikers can explore the C.E. Rager Nature Trail and the Robert Foster Hiking Trail. Robert Foster Hiking Trail gives you the opportunity to see the diversity of trees Kentucky has to offer and the C.E. Rager Nature trail is a nice short stroll along the shoreline of the lake. Great for poking around and possibly seeing the resident white squirrel of Baileys Point!

## Facilities

Baileys Point has 215 sites for a variety of RV and tent campers and is open April through October. Most sites are equipped with electric and water hookups. With two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, basketball court and amphitheater for weekend movie nights, the campground offers plenty of opportunities for family entertainment.

## Natural Features

The 10,000-acre lake is hugged by wooded hillsides in south-central Kentucky. With scenic views from almost every campsite, it's sure to make for a memorable camping experience. 

## Nearby Attractions

Across the lake from Baileys Point is the Barren River Lake State Resort Park, host of the Glasgow Highland Games. Other ramps and marinas close by are Port Oliver, Peninsula, and The Narrows. Not far away are other attractions such as the National Corvette Museum, Kentucky Down Under, Diamond Caverns, and many other day trips within reach. Visitors can explore Mammoth Cave National Park, an hour north of the campground.

## Charges & Cancellations

Of the six parks in the Bluegrass State, Mammoth Cave is the only true national park. This area of southwestern Kentucky holds the best outdoor activities to be found in the state.

There are a large number of campsites across a few campgrounds, and Mammoth Cave Campground holds most of them. Both Mammoth Cave and Maple Springs Campgrounds are accessible for RVs. Backcountry camping is also available for interested hikers. The caves are, of course, the big draw, and no matter where you stay, you should take a cave tour. Since there are no nearby forests or BLM land, the best camping near Mammoth Cave National Park is fairly far away at the Green River Lake Wildlife Management Area.
