Many of the sites have a view of the water. The sites are well separated leaving a lot of room for the kids and walking the dog as well.
There is a nice beach but no lifeguard. Lots of shade trees as well.
Great place for boaters and kayakers. There are multiple docks to set at and a put in road…
This is a great campsite and it very well spaced and provides excellent scenery and there is plenty to do. Only issue we have come across was that the electric service on our site kept tripping the breaker. Only running ac and a CPAP machine and the breaker would not hold......very disappointing…
We chose to camp in a primitive site and ended up right on the lake. We are here during the week so it’s really nice and quiet!! Would definitely come back!
One of our favorite campgrounds! The campground is huge! There are 6 loops to choose from. Be sure to make sure of site lengths and if there is electric (because not all have electric in every loop) our personal favorite is loop E. Sites are varying in condition and some aren’t very level, but…

Axtel is a nice COE campground on Rough River Lake. Very family friendly and clean.
The sites are a little tighter than a typical COE facility but there appeared to be many folks buddy camping so it was well suited for that. Most site have power and water and it looked to be updated not too long…
Our site was so small I could barely fit my pop-up and compact pickup on it. Arrived after dark and fell down a 2-3 foot drop-off at the edge of asphalt. Picnic table was in the grass at about a 30 degree tilt. Fire pit was 30 feet away in the bottom of a wash.
We are on a cross country road trip and just stopped for the night. Very nice campsite. The area we were in was nice and private. Campgrounds has showers with good hot water pressure. Definitely recommend this campsite.
Staff as always been very friendly, sites are very spacious, there are trails for hiking, a playground and a beach. Only negatives are no showers and not much shade unless you get a site on the edge of the woods
Great views of the lake from most sites. The only bad is that it’s hard to get reservations.
Loved it! I've been to a couple of CoE campgrounds before but this is now my favorite one. I had Site 31 right beside the Woodland Trail entrance but you're pretty close to the lake (the boat ramp is about a 1/2 mile as the crow flies) and you're close to town (about 3 1/2 miles roughly) if you…
Spent Thanksgiving here as a way to just have a quiet relaxing time.
A lot of people pull in for the night since it's right off the highway and behind a Pilot/Flying J, but it was still quiet.
Got to chat at length with the owner and you can tell he cares about the property.
Will stay again when…
The park is small and cramped. Sites are very close together. The rates are extreme for this area.
Stopped here for 2 nights on a long trip from WV to AR. So glad we did! Nice camping, but the cave was so awesome to tour. Fascinating how they mined the salt-petre to manufacture gunpowder.

It is under new ownership at this time. It is not worth the price you pay for a KOA. It is extremely run down. None of the amenities are kept up such as the kids playground, mini golf course and campsite extras. Some of the campsites have wheels for fire pits while others have nice stone pits. Some…
Loved this place. Less than 10 minute walk to the Visitor Center, restaurant, ice cream shop and camp store. US Post Office on site will stamp your mail with the Mammoth Cave cancellation stamp. Many sites are drive through, no electric or water at site, lots of trees so little solar power…
