      Chase State Fishing Lake

We Didn’t Even Give Kansas a Chance

On our road-trip to Utah, we dreaded having to camp in Kansas, until a friend recommended this spot. This stunning little lake is a free site with plenty of fire rings right next to a road. PERFECT car camping. And even has a clean little bathroom. Stunning views of rolling hills and cattle. Places to fish. A little trail that leads up a small hill. Stunning stunning stunning views of wildflowers and rolling hills. Great sunrise and sunset views! Phenomenal place to stop if you’re driving through Kansas. A bit of a detour from I-70, but totally worth it.

      Love's RV Stop-McPherson KS 608

      Perfect overnight stop

Super clean with lots of amenities; dog park, basketball, pickleball, frisbee, grills, covered picnic tables, large and very sturdy concrete tornado shelter (had to use it through a storm with 100mph gusts because…well…. when in Kansas!), showers and bathrooms on site also. All sites are ENORMOUS, level, well lit, and full hookup. Definitely stay here while passing through. Only drawback is no shade and it took HOURS to cool travel trailer down.

Payne Rv park has 18 full hook up sites and is located outside of Newton. It is perfect for a night but not a lot to see otherwise. The fee is $20 per night and you pay across the road. The sites are gravel, pull they, and have 50/30/20 amp. Pets are allowed and our cell service was full bars.

      USI RV Park

      Clean but tightly packed

The small park is located in a commercial area but has fairly close access to downtown Wichita. It does have a small dog park and playground set an is good enough for a overnight visit.

      Deer Grove RV Park

Very friendly and helpful staff! Well maintained park!

The park was clean and friendly.  I loved the dog park so I could let my pups run free.  The laundry facility was very helpful so i didnt have to travel to find one.  There was free wifi in the park as well, which my kids loved.  There is a very pretty pond area on the property, with very nice walking trails.  Wichita, KS is very close by with lots of fun things to do.  Enjoyed my time there, will def stay there again if back in the area!

      Deer Grove RV Park

      Good stop over…

But not really scenic. Very little grass mostly gravel. Did have a dog park that was convenient. Wi-Fi was a bit tricky and we couldn’t connect our smart tv

West Shore Camping Area — Cheney State Park

      Summer fun

The campsite has friendly staff, the facilities and campsites are clean, great swimming area. They are pet friendly and have a leash law. The boat ramp and dock are good sized and kept maintained. I have a great time everytime I go. I recommend it as a stop while you are in Kansas.

    Guide to Newton

Harvey County East Park provides lakeside RV and tent camping on 150 acres in eastern Kansas. Campers have direct water access with sandy beaches and well-maintained facilities at an elevation of 1,460 feet. The park serves as a central hub for outdoor recreation in the region with lakeside campsites that offer convenient water and electrical connections.

    What to do

Kayaking and paddle sports: Harvey County West Park offers a smaller lake perfect for casual paddling and fishing from kayaks. "Good spot for kayaking, and if you're a fisherman I hear it's a good place," notes Terry M. about the peaceful waters.

Hiking on wooded trails: Santa Fe Lake features multiple trail networks marked for different uses. "The main trail is composed of a gravel camping road that encircles the man made lake. Several trails offshoot from this main road, each is marked for either hiking (trail running), mountain biking, or camping," explains Armaan M. The trails range from easy to moderate difficulty.

Family swimming: Harvey County East Park maintains a designated swimming area with sandy beaches that's popular with families. "Relaxing and clean swimming area. Bathroom was clean," writes Rita G. about her experience at the park.

    What campers like

Waterfront access: Santa Fe Lake campers appreciate the easy water entry points from many campsites. "Our campsite had a nice little launch spot which made things super simple," shares Chris L. The smaller lake size limits large boat traffic, creating a more peaceful paddling experience.

Tree cover for shade: Harvey County East Park offers shaded campsites throughout the grounds. "Great campground really enjoy the large and shady sites. I also like how they put boat docks behind all of the lake side sites," notes Stanleigh S. These shaded sites provide welcome relief during hot Kansas summers.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campers at Cottonwood Grove RV Campground appreciate the peaceful setting despite highway proximity. "Pleasant small family owned campground. Lyndel was very sweet. Hot showers with lots of water pressure, laundry room and full hookup," reports Jenny W.

    What you should know

Water hookup limitations: At Harvey County East Park, water connections have specific restrictions. "The water hookups are shared between sites and currently have signs reading, '15 MINUTE TIME LIMIT. Do Not Leave Water Hose Connected, Even If You Have A Splitter,'" cautions Meghan B. This is important for RV campers planning extended stays.

Seasonal variations: Water access areas may have different rules during summer months. The swimming areas can become crowded during weekends and peak season as noted by multiple reviewers. Fall brings different wildlife viewing opportunities at parks like Harvey County West Park.

Facility conditions: Several campgrounds maintain basic but functional facilities. "Facilities are dated but, for the most part, clean. Fairly quiet but can get rowdy during holidays," explains Bj T. regarding Harvey County East Park facilities.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach activities: Santa Fe Lake offers designated swimming areas with sandy beaches. "Great staff on board. Electric only but the office lets you fill your fresh water tank by the entrance and there is a dump station. Swim beach & great for tent camping," notes Marty D. The beach areas provide contained spaces for children to play.

Playgrounds and recreation: Wichita's Spring Lake RV Resort provides additional entertainment options for children. "This is a resort. Everything you could want. Swimming pool, chuck wagon on weekends. Free minutes golf, etc. A very nice playground for children," describes Debbie J. about the family-friendly amenities.

Budget-friendly options: Several camping options near Newton offer affordable rates for families. "Sandy beaches at most of the tent campsites are our favorite things about this lake! Also, super affordable camping," mentions Anika L. about Harvey County East Park.

    Tips from RVers

Overnight convenience: Payne Oil RV Park offers practical full hookup sites for travelers passing through. "Payne Rv park has 18 full hook up sites and is located outside of Newton. It is perfect for a night but not a lot to see otherwise. The fee is $20 per night and you pay across the road," explains Shannon G. Pet friendly considerations: When seeking pet friendly camping near Newton, Kansas, USI RV Park provides designated dog areas. "Close to everywhere, flat gravel sites, friendly owners and employees, full hookups, nice dog park and kid's playground," says Bonnie A. The fenced dog run allows pets to exercise safely off-leash.

Hookup quality: RVers should note the electrical service variations between parks. "We had a pull through site with 50 amp service, water and sewer that fit our 40 ft Motorhome towing a Jeep," writes John F. about All Seasons RV Park, confirming its suitability for larger rigs.
