    Hidden gem

Was it expecting how nice this campground was compared to more primitive ones in the area. Beautiful site! Has tent camping, full rv hook ups, and a nice playground for the kids.

    Winnavegas Casino RV Park

    Not a campground!

Don't let the name mislead you!! I don't think you could consider this a campground at all... it's basically literally a parking lot at the far end of the property for RV hookups outside of the casino. There's power hookups I'm sure don't know about water or dump site at all even but other than the casino / Hotel / restaurant there are zero accommodations to consider this camping otherwise. But hey if you like gambling, Park your RV outside and enjoy! The closest actual campgrounds would be in Salix Iowa, on Browns Lake including Bigelow Park (last I knew it was closed temporarily for construction,) and Snyders Bend campgrounds but the water on that side has all dried up and there's not much to the campground. Otherwise go down to Onawa and there's several places there on Blue Lake including Lewis and Clark or the koa, or even hit the River Campground in Whiting. Not a fan of River camping but it's not a bad looking Campground otherwise if you don't mind being a bit crowded

    Nice Stopover Spot

We stayed with our class A RV on our way to and from a further destination. First spot was one right along the river. All the spots are spacious...neighbors are not on top of you. This spot had a nice concrete pad with a picnic table (not so nice with peeling paint). Views of the river and city were nice. Full hook-ups with sewer, water, electric, cable, and wi-if. Second spot was not on the river but equally spacious. No concrete pad with this one. Bathhouses were a mixed bag. One was large with numerous stalls and showers and very clean. The other quite small (2 stalls and one shower) and not so clean. Had to step around empty shampoo and conditioner bottles on floor and a used razor on the soap dish.....there in the early evening and still there around 9 the next morning. Many of the sites seemed to be extended stay and not all trailers were well kept.....plastic covering windows, haphazard decks, etc. All-in-all though an Ok stopover in a longer trip.

    Nice Stopover Spot

We stayed with our class A RV on our way to and from a further destination in early July. First spot was one right along the river. All the spots are spacious...neighbors are not on top of you. This spot had a nice concrete slab with a picnic table (not so nice with peeling paint). Views of the river and city were nice. Full hook-ups with sewer, water, electric and (spotty) WiFi. Second spot was not on the river but equally spacious. No concrete patio with this one. Bathhouse’s were a mixed bag. One was large with numerous stalls and showers and very clean. The other quite small (2 stalls and one shower) and not so clean. Cottonwood Cove Park Campground

    Tiny and QUIET!

Cottonwood Cove Park was the fifth campsite we rolled into in this tri-state area looking for a spot that we actually liked, and boy did we score! This is a little municipal park with only 12 sites, water/electric/cable TV for $22/night. Be aware that there is no dump station here. There's a small bath house that's presently closed for COVID-19 precautions.

Driveways and the road through the campground are crushed white gravel, but there are small concrete pads at each site for the rig and patio area. Large cottonwood trees tower throughout the campground. There are tiny campers and large fifth-wheels here, both. There's a campground host occupying one site, and you pay the host. Spacing between sites is very, very generous -- kudos to Dakota City for not cramming people into this place just to double the revenue.

The campground buts up right against a pretty natural stretch of the west bank of the Missouri River, with a boat launch and interpretive platform discussing Lewis & Clark's expedition that passed through here. The campground itself is tucked right into the middle of a neat, tidy residential neighborhood, such that it almost feels like you're part of the neighborhood.

It's been amazingly quiet during our stay. We've barely seen our neighbors, much less heard them even though the campground is mostly occupied. There are several rigs here that are long-term, presumably they're working at the massive Tyson Foods plant just up the road.

Cell service on Verizon is an impressive 4 bars, 42ms ping/65.6 Mbps down/24.8 Mbps up/3ms jitter.

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Scenic Park

    Great spot close to everything

We found the Scenic Park RV Campground when we were looking for a spot to stay close to Sioux City, IA for a sports event for our sons. We were extremely happy with this city run campground.

The pads are in great shape. They offer full hookups. We did not have a full hookup site, but still had water, electric, and free cable tv. The view from our camper of the Missouri River and the Sioux City skyline was pretty great.

The staff is friendly and welcoming. The location is quiet and everyone staying there seemed very nice as well. Will definitely be back when we’re up that way again next year.

Small park in a cute neighborhood. 8 RV spots with electric and water. Tent camping as well. $15 / night for RV spot. $10 / night tent spots. 5 day max. Pay at the bath house, no host on site.

Single free dump station as well.

Lewis and Clark State Park Campground

    Nice campground!

This is a pleasant campground. There are water lots available. Some spots can be reserved. Others are walk in only. Decent room between lots, though I would prefer a bit more room. Most sites are electric only. A slim amount are full hookup. Excellent playground for children. Popular place for boating in the summer months. Dirt trails to explore around the grounds.

    Onawa-Blue Lake KOA

    Extremely Rude

Tried this place one time last year (first time rv camping and first koa experience). We had never been to this place and were yelled at on multiple occasions on the first day for supposed "campground rule" violations that weren't posted. The owners, rather than approach us and calmly speak to us, chose to immediately start screaming at us. Spoke to others camped around us and they said this is just how the owners are. Wouldn't go back unless there's a complete ownership/ management change.

    Willow Creek Campground

    Nice overall, exceptional bathrooms

Site 42 is on the beach side which is the newer part of the campground, it’s one of the full hookup ones by the sidewalk. It was level and had some shade.m; sites are average size. There’s a dumpster and a container for recycling (not at the same spot), single stream no glass. The cell signal was good and they furnish wifi which was also good. The bathrooms are stupendous! Shiny floor, air conditioned and residential faucets in the showers! No button pushing! The trails are great! There are 1 and 2 mile loops to the east and 5 miles that follows the river to the west and south. We didn’t get in the pond but lots of other campers did. The City rents seasonal spots so there was a mix of locals and travelers. We enjoyed ice cream at Blue Bunny and beer at Wise I.

    Ponca State Park, Nebraska

Sept 10-15, 2019 Site 2 had electric and water (shared spicket). We enjoyed this park. We could have saved money if we had purchased the State Park Pass. We paid $40.88, Park had dump station, pay showers ($1 for 6 minutes), and flush toilets. Restrooms were very clean. Elevation 1,320 ft. Verizon 4G 2 bars. See RV Camping Journal for details.

Sites are very cramped. Staff less than friendly. Lake is nice, but shore needs maintenance and to have trees and brush cut back. Shower house is nice and clean. Does have full hookup.

    Meh for tent camping

The campsite seems to be more for RVs. Tent camping is just a field with a few picnic tables in it and has a bit of a walk from the parking lot with your equipment. The shower house was nice and clean. There is a barn there to use as a picnic shelter which is very pretty. The overall campground is pleasant and in beautiful country.

    Clean & kid friendly

Well kept & family friendly camping in Iowa! We were able to reserve an electric unit (#30) right off the lake and across the road from the large playground (~5 setups for different age groups). We could watch the kids play while getting food ready or preparing a line to throw in the water. Short walk to the very clean restrooms with flush toilets & showers. Will come back!

    Hagge County Park

    Nice smaller campground

Hagge Park has only 15 sites available with full hookups, but it is a great, quieter place than most. Nice shaded areas. There are some primitive sites too. It also has 1 cabin for rent at a reasonable price. There are restrooms & showers, but we have never used them, so I can't review them. We love hiking the trails there & almost always observe fisherman along the river. There aren't a ton of trails, but what the ones there are beautiful & well maintained. You can get a great workout😉 We will go back!

    Scenic Park

    Along the Missouri River

Scenic Park Campground is in South Sioux City along the Missouri River. Our campsite had a river view, picnic table, and fire ring. The campground is part of a large park and was full hookups with cable and wifi included. Our site was a pull through. The area was clean and had a nice appearance. There was also 4 unique modern looking cabins and a tent area.

The park also has tennis courts, soccer fields, and baseball fields. There is a swimming pool and playgrounds, along with trails. The trails I loved were along the river. The only con was that There was a major highway on the other side of the river and ambulances would pass by with sirens going. Otherwise a nice campground.

    Great Park, Okay Campground.

Park is amazing with multiple trails and lots to do. Great activities for kids. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Pick up a map as signage is not great. Oak Bluff Campground is okay and has level sites. Tight squeeze for larger campers, not all sites are 50 amp and sites are smaller than most state parks.

    Reiff Park

    A quick layover

Out in the farm fields in the middle of nowhere is this tiny little park and campground. When I first pulled up I didn’t see the campground, just the park. The park is actually divided in two parts with a wooded area in between. On the left is the park with bathrooms, meeting building and playground and on the right is the campground. The campground is really just a place for rvs to pull up and have some power and water. There are only about a dozen of these pull thru’s and no designated tent area. There are some trees that are well spaced for hammocks but you would be right next to someone’s RV. You have to walk to the other side of the woods to access the bathrooms. It was mown and maintained, but nothing special. Thankfully the place was empty so I could hang my hammock between two sites to relax and no one was around to care that I put my tent up in the grass instead of in a pull thru.

    Ok stop for a night

No real complaints. Clean campground, friendly hosts. Prefer more nature, but not a bad stop on a long drive. Right on river, but huge park with lots of campers, and tucked in between soccer fields. Safe and convenient though, and had a camp fire. Wifi not very good, but electric and water hookups were fine.

    KOA Campground North Sioux City

    A bit run down

Not what you would expect for a KOA with a “Holiday” ranking. Pot holes in the roads. Picnic tables sagging and peeling paint. Poor WiFi. Just looked neglected. Gave 4 stars instead of 3 because maybe COVID was impacting staffing. Sites were level. Bathrooms were clean although very few campers were using them. Not a bad campground, just overpriced.
