Best RV Parks & Resorts near Sioux City, IA

Several RV parks serve the Sioux City area with varying amenities and site designs. Stone State Park Campground operates from April through December with electric hookups and sewer connections at select sites, accommodating both small and large rigs. KOA Campground North Sioux City features big-rig friendly pull-through sites with full hookups including 50-amp service. "Concrete pads, very little leveling needed. Plenty of space in between sites. Easily accessible for any size rig," noted one visitor about Cottonwood Cove Park. Browns Lake Bigelow Park offers electric sites with water hookups from May through October, while On-Ur-Wa RV Park provides full-service sites with 50-amp electric, sewer, and water connections for motorhomes between mid-April and mid-October.

Dump stations are available at most parks, though some like Cottonwood Cove lack this facility, requiring RVers to plan accordingly. Cell service varies by location, with particularly strong Verizon coverage at Cottonwood Cove Park (65+ Mbps download speeds) and good connectivity at Lazy H Campground. Weekend reservations are recommended during summer months as many parks fill quickly, especially those with lakeside sites. Most RV parks in the area accept pets, though some implement breed restrictions or leash requirements. Winter camping options are limited, with Stone State Park being one of few parks open through December. Many sites throughout the region feature concrete pads, though some parks still maintain gravel sites that may require additional leveling, particularly after rain.

    Scenic Park

    Along the Missouri River

Scenic Park Campground is in South Sioux City along the Missouri River. Our campsite had a river view, picnic table, and fire ring. The campground is part of a large park and was full hookups with cable and wifi included. Our site was a pull through. The area was clean and had a nice appearance. There was also 4 unique modern looking cabins and a tent area.

The park also has tennis courts, soccer fields, and baseball fields. There is a swimming pool and playgrounds, along with trails. The trails I loved were along the river. The only con was that There was a major highway on the other side of the river and ambulances would pass by with sirens going. Otherwise a nice campground.

    Cottonwood Cove Park Campground

    Tiny and QUIET!

Cottonwood Cove Park was the fifth campsite we rolled into in this tri-state area looking for a spot that we actually liked, and boy did we score! This is a little municipal park with only 12 sites, water/electric/cable TV for $22/night. Be aware that there is no dump station here. There's a small bath house that's presently closed for COVID-19 precautions.

Driveways and the road through the campground are crushed white gravel, but there are small concrete pads at each site for the rig and patio area. Large cottonwood trees tower throughout the campground. There are tiny campers and large fifth-wheels here, both. There's a campground host occupying one site, and you pay the host. Spacing between sites is very, very generous -- kudos to Dakota City for not cramming people into this place just to double the revenue.

The campground buts up right against a pretty natural stretch of the west bank of the Missouri River, with a boat launch and interpretive platform discussing Lewis & Clark's expedition that passed through here. The campground itself is tucked right into the middle of a neat, tidy residential neighborhood, such that it almost feels like you're part of the neighborhood.

It's been amazingly quiet during our stay. We've barely seen our neighbors, much less heard them even though the campground is mostly occupied. There are several rigs here that are long-term, presumably they're working at the massive Tyson Foods plant just up the road.

Cell service on Verizon is an impressive 4 bars, 42ms ping/65.6 Mbps down/24.8 Mbps up/3ms jitter.

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Scenic Park

    very friendly

Scenic park is across the Missouri river from Sioux City,  Iowa.  It is easy to get to. Very friendly staff.  Restrooms are kept clean.  It is a large campground with several different restrooms with showers.  There is a number of permanent campsites, there is also some that can be reserved.  Some are also pull thru's. Ice and firewood are available on site.  There  is a separate area available for tents. With it being  on the edge of South Sioux City, Ne and across the river from Sioux City, Ia. there is lots of shopping options close by.  It can also be reserved for groups, with a shelter available for use.  There are some sunny spots and also spots with lots of shade.  I really like this campground!

Browns Lake Bigelow Park Woodbury County Park

    Beautiful Park, June 2019

This is a beautiful park, well maintained, quiet and borders Browns Lake 10 Miles from Sioux City. CG has horse shoe pits, Basketball, volleyball courts, playground for the kids and a swimming beach. Newly constructed Handicapped ramp to fishing jetty and nice big fishing/boat dock that is at the rear of the CG. Restrooms/showers were newer, modern and spotless and also served as a tornado safe shelter. 4 individual shower rooms+ 4 individual/private toilet, sink, shower rooms handicapped accessible. All sites are 1st come 1st serve. Water at each site. We came in mid Friday and there were several sites available with one site still available lake side which we took. Numerous trees and sites are spacious. CG did not fill over the weekend which was a surprise considering that this CG was very nice. Have camped for 12 years and been to a number of CGs and never have had a State Park CG to have its own Wifi but his one did. Ice, bait and soft drinks available by host site. Shelter available for rental. Sioux City is only 10 miles away. This park is a gem. We camped at Bigelow Park/Brown's Lake in a Travel Trailer.

    Scenic Park

    Nice Stopover Spot

We stayed with our class A RV on our way to and from a further destination. First spot was one right along the river. All the spots are spacious...neighbors are not on top of you. This spot had a nice concrete pad with a picnic table (not so nice with peeling paint). Views of the river and city were nice. Full hook-ups with sewer, water, electric, cable, and wi-if. Second spot was not on the river but equally spacious. No concrete pad with this one. Bathhouses were a mixed bag. One was large with numerous stalls and showers and very clean. The other quite small (2 stalls and one shower) and not so clean. Had to step around empty shampoo and conditioner bottles on floor and a used razor on the soap dish.....there in the early evening and still there around 9 the next morning. Many of the sites seemed to be extended stay and not all trailers were well kept.....plastic covering windows, haphazard decks, etc. All-in-all though an Ok stopover in a longer trip.

    Scenic Park

    Great spot close to everything

We found the Scenic Park RV Campground when we were looking for a spot to stay close to Sioux City, IA for a sports event for our sons. We were extremely happy with this city run campground.

The pads are in great shape. They offer full hookups. We did not have a full hookup site, but still had water, electric, and free cable tv. The view from our camper of the Missouri River and the Sioux City skyline was pretty great.

The staff is friendly and welcoming. The location is quiet and everyone staying there seemed very nice as well. Will definitely be back when we’re up that way again next year.

    Scenic Park

    Nice quiet park

Host was very friendly and helpful. They had some spots on the river. We stayed in a pull through that was very spacious with picnic table and fire pit. Spectated by trees so your not on top of your neighbor. Bathrooms and showers were very clean! Although no hand soap so bring your own. Showers were free and they had bikes you could check out to ride around. Park is super close to huge park with Tennis courts and other activities.

    Nice Stopover Spot

We stayed with our class A RV on our way to and from a further destination in early July. First spot was one right along the river. All the spots are spacious...neighbors are not on top of you. This spot had a nice concrete slab with a picnic table (not so nice with peeling paint). Views of the river and city were nice. Full hook-ups with sewer, water, electric and (spotty) WiFi. Second spot was not on the river but equally spacious. No concrete patio with this one. Bathhouse’s were a mixed bag. One was large with numerous stalls and showers and very clean. The other quite small (2 stalls and one shower) and not so clean. Many sites seemed to be extended stay and not all were well kept...plastic covering windows, haphazard decks, etc. All-in-all though an OK one night stopover spot if you’re traveling through.

Lewis and Clark State Park Campground

    Clean & kid friendly

Well kept & family friendly camping in Iowa! We were able to reserve an electric unit (#30) right off the lake and across the road from the large playground (~5 setups for different age groups). We could watch the kids play while getting food ready or preparing a line to throw in the water. Short walk to the very clean restrooms with flush toilets & showers. Will come back!

Guide to Sioux City

RV sites near Sioux City, Iowa sit at elevations between 1,100 and 1,400 feet, with Browns Lake and Missouri River access points providing water recreation options. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and cold winters that limit camping seasons at most locations. Most campgrounds in this tri-state area (Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota) operate seasonally from April through October.

What to do

Swimming at designated beaches: Browns Lake Bigelow Park features a swimming beach with no lifeguard on duty. "This is a beautiful park, well maintained, quiet and borders Browns Lake 10 Miles from Sioux City. CG has horse shoe pits, Basketball, volleyball courts, playground for the kids and a swimming beach," notes one visitor.

Hiking trail exploration: Stone State Park Campground offers numerous hiking trails throughout the park, though navigation can be challenging. A camper explains, "This is a large state park in the northwest corner of Iowa, surprisingly wooded considering how close to Sioux City it is located. Touted as a year-round park, there is a large network of trails, some of which can be used as equestrian. HOWEVER, the trails are not labeled and there is no (or very fleeting) cell service."

Fishing opportunities: Riverfront Campground at Ponca State Park offers multiple fishing locations. "So much fishing! River and lake. Very peaceful during the spring and fall. Great mushroom hunting in the hills," reports one visitor. The park combines water access with natural trails for varied outdoor activities.

What campers like

Lake amenities and recreation: Lazy H Campground receives praise for its swimming and boating options. "The beach has giant floating lily pads that the kids loved. There are showers on the beach to wash off feet after you're done swimming. You can order firewood, ice, or worms, and they will drop it off at your site," explains a camper who appreciated the service.

Campground cleanliness: Camping areas with consistent maintenance stand out in reviews. "Out in the middle of basically nowhere is The Lazy H RV park. The park is excellent! It's probably the cleanest park I've ever been to. The concrete pads are level and large. The grass and spacing between spots is wonderful," notes one RVer about the attention to detail.

Modern facilities: Browns Lake Bigelow Park earns high marks for its bathroom facilities. "Restrooms/showers were newer, modern and spotless and also served as a tornado safe shelter. 4 individual shower rooms+ 4 individual/private toilet, sink, shower rooms handicapped accessible," details a visitor who appreciated the updated amenities.

What you should know

Reservation systems vary: While some campgrounds like Stone State Park offer reservable sites, others operate on a first-come basis. "All sites are 1st come 1st serve. Water at each site. We came in mid Friday and there were several sites available with one site still available lake side which we took," reports a Browns Lake Bigelow Park visitor.

Campground access and location: KOA Campground North Sioux City provides convenient highway access. A camper notes, "The grounds are nice and it is well organized and maintained. The dog park is not so well-maintained but was adequate and the pool was clean, and there is easy access to the freeway Both north and south."

Lots of amenities for families including pool, mini-golf, corn hole, jump pad, playground. Trees and lots of grass, fire pits," explains a visitor highlighting the family-focused features.

Beach activities: Lazy H Campground offers water recreation popular with children. "Tons of activities to do here. There's fishing, boating, biking, and swimming. The beach has giant floating lily pads that the kids loved," notes a camper about the appeal for young visitors.

Playground access: On-Ur-Wa RV Park features a small dog park and accessible facilities. "This small campground is right off the interstate, easy to get to. It's right by a small truck stop, but the noise was not bothersome at all. There is a small dog park for the pups. One of our party is in a wheelchair and had no problem accessing the showers or bathroom," reports a visitor who found the park accommodating.

Tips from RVers

Site specifications: Concrete pads are available at several campgrounds, particularly at Lazy H. "The pull through sites are fully concrete and level. They all have a huge table and stone fire pit. Plenty of room for a second vehicle. Full hookups are great," explains an RVer who appreciated the setup.

Connectivity considerations: Cell service varies significantly across camping locations near Sioux City. "Sprint/T-mobile data was around 56 Mbps down," reports a Lazy H Campground visitor, while Stone State Park campers note poor connectivity: "Got only 1 bar signal on both Verizon & AT&T. No WiFi."

Extended-stay amenities: For RVers planning longer visits, Browns Lake Bigelow Park offers unexpected extras. "Never have had a State Park CG to have its own Wifi but his one did. Ice, bait and soft drinks available by host site. Sioux City is only 10 miles away," shares a camper who enjoyed the convenient location and services.
