Campgrounds surrounding Tippecanoe, Indiana feature a blend of state parks, private facilities, and waterfront properties along lakes and rivers. Tippecanoe River State Park Campground and Potato Creek State Park provide year-round accommodations for tent camping, RV hookups, and cabin rentals. Several private establishments like Hoffman Lake Campground and Pla-Mor Campground operate seasonally from April through October, offering electrical hookups, water access, and recreational amenities. The region includes a mix of heavily wooded sites and open waterfront locations, with most developed campgrounds maintaining shower facilities, electric hookups, and sanitary dump stations.

Seasonal considerations significantly impact camping experiences in this area, with most private campgrounds closing between October and April. Water access varies widely across campgrounds, with some offering boat launches and fishing opportunities. "Fishing was good and swimming was nice too," noted one visitor about Ruperts Resort Campground, highlighting the dual recreational opportunities available. Campers should anticipate higher occupancy rates during summer weekends and holidays, particularly at waterfront sites. Several campgrounds require reservations, especially during peak season, while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Weather conditions typically feature warm, humid summers and cold winters with significant snowfall, making spring and fall ideal for camping comfort.

The shores of local lakes and the Tippecanoe River provide popular fishing and boating opportunities, consistently drawing campers to waterfront sites. A reviewer at Hidden Lake Paradise Camp Ground shared, "Stayed in Rustic for 5 days... They had a pond but it was only catch and release, had amazing wifi, and even had the perfect bath house I had ever used by far as a Nomad." Family-friendly amenities appear at several locations, with Pla-Mor Campground featuring an in-ground swimming pool, mini golf, and playgrounds according to multiple reviews. Campground density varies significantly, with some locations offering spacious sites while others place campers in close proximity. Public perception ranges widely, with certain properties receiving consistent praise for cleanliness and amenities while others face criticism for crowding or maintenance issues. Many campgrounds maintain seasonal residents alongside short-term visitors.

      Wabash River Corridor Camp

It's a lush little park, but it needs to be loudly emphasized THERE IS NO PARKING OF ANY KIND. I pulled up to the park and could see the overnight camping sign down a hill near a jogging path. Embarrassingly, I ended up driving on an upper portion of that jogging path because there's literally nowhere else to go besides backing out the way you came in. The path looks like a small paved road with stop signs and other road signs. As I was trying to navigate out of my predicament, locals were walking and biking in another entrance. They suggested I park at a local business, but it was closed and I certainly wasn't doing that without permission. It would also defeat the purpose of having an awning on my vehicle, plus way too far to walk with even bare necessities. The only way I see this being doable is if you get permission to park and have a wagon or you're paddling in on the river. I ended up going to Wabash River Cove in Lagro (I went back to Wabash the next to visit the adorable downtown area), about 13 minutes away. $20 for primitive with fire ring on the river. There are porta potties which I didn't use.

For our first fall, chilly camping weekend, it was a nice getaway. We got to enjoy the Halloween decorations and the quiet chilly mornings.

      KOA Campground Middlebury

      Friendly (with a Broken Toilet)

This was our first time camping in our 1991 Coachman Catalina RV with our two small dogs. We had site 50, which was close to a trail and not far from the bathrooms. The campers around us were very friendly. Our dogs were attempting to get used to not barking when they saw other dogs, but everyone was very understanding that it was our/their first time. The site was quiet and offers a few mini golf holes, gaga ball, some photo ops, and a pier. One of the toilets in the women’s restroom wasn’t refilling with water, so every time I went in there, I would fix it. The flusher handle was clearly broken, too. Otherwise, the bathroom accommodations were fine.

Relaxing September Evening at Chain O' Lakes State Park

I stayed one evening last Wednesday here, a first time for me.  Just tent camping / sleeping in the car.  There were other campers around enjoying the pleasant evening, mainly in RVs.  Everyone was very quiet and respectful.  The shower buildings are old fashioned with a common area to place clothes and a towel, and only a shower curtain for each individual shower.  However, I was the only one showering at the time anyway.  The shower area was state park clean, I guess.  Before leaving, I viewed the one room schoolhouse on the grounds, just from the windows as it wasn't open at the time.  Quaint and old school.  Overall, I recommend camping at the park if you can live with the shower building or have an RV for added convenience.

      Blooming Bus Farms

      Nicely designed

Cute spot found on hip camp. Had most of it to myself on a weeknight in September. The flowers are a very thoughtful touch.

We loved our stay here. Trees aplenty, ponds are nice and the little river is right there.

      Woodys Camp and Bait

This camp ground is very nice quiet.

This camp ground is located on the other side of the damn. Newly add lots and shower houses also play ground for those with children. For those big kids of us there is also a new RC track. If you like peace and quiet and friendly camp neighbors this is the place for you.

Decent Campground - Great for Rallys

We have camped every summer here for years for an annual rally that is hosted here

It’s great that we have the air conditioned rally room that our group rents for all our events and space to spend with group if it’s rainy or hot

There is a differnt experience in park depending on where you stay - if your in full sun open area in summer it’s miserable but if your in the wooded area it’s much nicer

The bathrooms are not the best - they are outdated but have hot water and work great - I prefer the bathhouse by the wooded area over the one in the big building - showers are nicer

The lots are clean and hook ups all work great

Pool is showing it’s age but still clean and kids love to swim in it

Good campground, but right on the highway

The campground is right off of US-30 and IN-23 so pretty convent other than due to construction on 30 right now. But being right off of a major US highway it can be a little noisy. Short term sites are just grass but pretty close to level side to side. Think I had to raise door side like an inch. Water pressure was okay but drops during the day. At about 600 PM I was struggling to get more than 40psi even with regulator all the way open. I don’t think it is worth $65 a night but there are more expensive options closer to Plymouth

    Guide to Tippecanoe

Camping near Tippecanoe, Indiana offers access to both seasonal and year-round facilities between Lake Michigan and the Tippecanoe River watershed. The region experiences heavy humidity during summer months, with nighttime temperatures often dropping 20-30 degrees below daytime highs. Most sites require advance planning during peak seasons (May-August) when occupancy reaches 85-95%.

    What to do

Hiking to fire towers: Tippecanoe River State Park Campground offers several trails including a short hike to a fire tower. "A nice little place to relax. Fire tower climb was beautiful," reports one visitor. The park features multiple hiking options with varying difficulty levels.

Mountain biking for beginners: Potato Creek State Park Campground provides entry-level mountain bike trails alongside paved paths. "The Peppermint Hill mountain bike/hiking loop was really fun and not to be missed," notes one camper. The park maintains separate trail systems for different skill levels, with most beginner routes under 3 miles.

Canoe launching: Tippecanoe River Run provides direct river access for small watercraft. "Good place for fishing from bank and launching kayak, canoes," explains one visitor. The campground's proximity to the river allows for easy put-in without portaging equipment.

    What campers like

Clean bath facilities: Hoffman Lake Campground receives consistent praise for its maintenance standards. "We had a issue with the power tripped out when we first hooked up, but they fixed it right away and didn't have any other issues the whole stay. The pool, bathhouse and lake where all clean and nice," notes one camper who stayed at site C-2.

Year-round camping options: Hidden Lake Paradise Camp Ground remains open throughout winter. "Open year around really peaceful," reports one camper. The site accommodates both tent and RV camping with adjusted services during cold weather months.

    What you should know

Limited cell service: Coverage varies significantly between providers at state parks. "I have AT&T service and could not use my phone at all, my husband has Verizon and had no problems with cell service," reports a camper at Tippecanoe River State Park. Most campgrounds offer better reception near entrance areas or camp stores.

Site drainage issues: Heavy rainfall can affect ground conditions at several campgrounds. "Our site ponded water after a rain, but soaked in fast," notes a camper about site 102 at Tippecanoe River State Park.

Reservation policies: Most private campgrounds enforce strict cancellation terms. "Had a family emergency last month so had to cancel. They will not refund money because it wasn't 2 weeks for reservation," reports one visitor about Tippecanoe River Run.

    Tips for camping with families

Best playground-adjacent sites: At Tippecanoe River State Park, specific sites offer direct playground access. "Sites 2,3,4,6,&7 have direct access to a playground& you can watch your children from your site. All the interior sites by comfort station B have direct access to the playground from your site."

Pool amenities for children: Pla-Mor Campground features water facilities designed for various age groups. "Pool with splash area for littles," mentions one reviewer, noting the dedicated shallow section for younger children.

Beach alternatives: Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground offers water activities beyond swimming pools. "Kayaking and the beach was a huge hit with the kids," reports one family. The beach area provides shallow entry points suitable for younger swimmers.

    Tips from RVers

Electrical hookup planning: At Potato Creek State Park, electrical connection distances vary significantly by site. "Be ready with back up cords, some sites require 75 ft to hook up," advises one RVer. Sites 230-287 typically require longer connections due to their positioning.

Site selection for quieter stays: More experienced campers recommend specific areas within larger campgrounds. "We recommend securing a spot in the back sites 230-287 for larger lots and quieter atmosphere. Younger families tend to book up front near the playground and the noise and activities are more robust," suggests an RVer at Potato Creek State Park.

Site surface considerations: Concrete pads provide better stability during wet conditions. "We stayed at C-2 and it was a full hookup with a level clean dry concrete pad," notes a visitor to Hoffman Lake Campground, highlighting the importance of pad construction for RV leveling.
