    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Two Rivers Campground

    Very Nice!

Two Rivers is a fairly new, city run campground close to I-71 and adjacent to the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. All sites are FHU, about half of them are pull-through and all are on level pads for the rig with adjoining concrete pads with picnic tables. There is a playground for kids, a very nice bathhouse and free WiFi. We’ve stayed here on our way to and from Nashville and are doing so again this year. Can’t recommend enough!

Winton Woods Campground Hamilton County Park

    Surprising City Campground

Winton Woods Campground was a clean and quiet campground that we were pleasantly surprised to find. The campground fills up fast and there were plenty of shaded electric sites close to the lake. There were also plenty of pull through sites for the big rigs. However if you’re good at backing, there were a good many deeper sites that you could use. Close by is Bass Pro Shops so you could pickup anything you forgot. Only one shower house for the entire campground though.

    Madison City Park

    Great Ohio River Views

This spot is perfect for immersing yourself in the local culture of the historic river town of Madison , Indiana. The campground is managed by the City of Madison and is located on prime Ohio River waterfront. The campground offers 34 class A sites; 24 have 30 amp and 10 providing 50 amp electric. Dump station available along with restrooms and showers. No tent camping allowed. Sites 1 through 18: Daily$40, Weekly$240. Sites 19 through 34: Daily$30, Weekly$180. The campground is seasonal running from April through October and reservations can be made in advance by email only madisoncampground98@yahoo.com. Sites are very close together with little privacy however; location is the trade off. You can easily walk to everything; river walk, local dining hot spots, grocery, wineries, brewery, antique stores and several historic sites. The towns architecture is not to be missed...so take a stroll around town. Many activities take place along the riverfront during the season; so plan ahead to make sure a site is available. This is not about the campground...it's all about the location.

    Versailles State Park Campground

    Nice family campground

Versailles State Park is a clean and family friendly camping destination that we enjoying visiting. There are three separate main campgrounds here; A B and C. C is our favorite because it is small, and mostly level lots (except the far end) with mature trees. B is larger with level lots, but usually crowded. A is very hit or miss as far as level sites. It’s very tight back in there, but more wooded private sites. It’s usually not too rowdy here unless you visit on a booked holiday weekend. The pool is nice, and the kids love the slides and diving board. They also have a fenced in area for small children with a baby pool and sprinkler. They do sell concessions at the pool as well. There are some nice trails and a lake where you can fish and kayak. I would also note that there is only one dump station for the three campgrounds so there can be quite the line when trying to get out of there on a Sunday afternoon. We love the Halloween festivities! It is so fun to see all the costumes and the decorations all over the campground. We plan to make it an annual tradition! Overall the park is very nice and I would definitely recommend to camping families.

Mounds State Recreation Area Campground — Brookville Lake

    Beautiful trails and Lake access

Mounds State Recreation Area located near Brookville Indiana is a beautiful location with camping for tents, trailers and motorhomes. There’s plenty of outdoor recreation available with trails and water access to Brookville Lake. About a dozen of the campsites have full hookups with 50amp power, water and sewer. These sites are big rig friendly. When booking online be cautious of site grade as many of the sites in the original loops have a moderate grade and are uneasy for motorhomes to level. The camp store has both ice and firewood available as well as souvenirs and snacks. Be cautious when making reservations as there is also a similar park with the same name located in northern Indiana.

What to do

What campers like

Concrete pads: Many campers appreciate the level, solid foundations at Winton Woods Campground. "There is a fire ring, a picnic table and an oversized gravel spot with plenty of trees to hang my hammock from. The sounds of nature serenaded me throughout the week."

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness receives frequent positive mentions. "Bathhouse is new very clean closest to sites 10 12 11 9 and 7," notes a camper at A.J. Jolly Park, while another visitor at Winton Woods comments, "Campground was super clean and quiet. Bathhouses were very clean."

River views: Camping along the Ohio River provides scenic boat watching. "We stayed in 4A and leveled with ease. It's a back In Only but they are there with you to guide," explains a visitor at Three Springs Campground. Several parks offer waterfront sites with views of passing barges and recreational boats.

What you should know

Train noise: Several campgrounds near Greendale experience railway disruption. At Northern Kentucky RV Park, "The freeway traffic is very loud 24 hours and the train comes at least 2 times per night (2am and 5am Sunday night anyway) blowing its horn."

Site limitations: Many campgrounds have design quirks that affect larger RVs. "Pad are about 12 x12 concrete so that's a plus but the location of the pads if you want to use your RV awning means your wheels in what ever your using are goi g to be nearly off the level area or in the grass," explains one camper about A.J. Jolly Park.

Seasonal availability: Many campgrounds operate from March through November with limited winter options. "We stayed one night while traveling back home from the Smoky Mountains. It is a beautiful site but unfortunately we were not able to enjoy it," notes a Winton Woods visitor during the off-season.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Indian Lakes RV Campground offers multiple recreation areas. "Beautiful park, well maintained, professionally ran, with LOTS of activities for young and old," shares one visitor. The main playground receives high marks from families.

Swimming options: Pool access varies significantly between parks. "There is a pool, volleyball courts and a dog park. It is hot in June, so bring a canopy if your RV doesn't have one," advises a camper at Follow The River RV Resort.

Creek exploration: Several campgrounds feature shallow creek access for kids. "A creek the kids caught crawfish in," mentions a Three Springs visitor, highlighting natural play areas beyond formal facilities.

Tips from RVers

Satellite and connectivity: Internet access varies significantly between parks. "I have great service here with my T-Mobile 5g internet as well as my starlink," reports a visitor at Indian Lakes, while other campers note limited or unreliable service elsewhere.

Hookup positioning: Some sites have unusual utility layouts. "The power for site 7 is on the wrong side so your going to need an extension possibly," advises an experienced camper regarding specific rv sites near Greendale, Indiana.

Level site selection: Many campgrounds have uneven terrain requiring preparation. "None are level looking so you will need to know what your doing. I'm o level your rig," explains an A.J. Jolly visitor with a 35-foot motorhome. "The site we got was 30amp with water no sewer at 50$ a night I was disappointed 25$ would have been more realistic."
