Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Albion, IN

Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground accommodates pets throughout its standard camping areas, RV sites, and rental cabins. Both tent and RV campers can bring their dogs to the park's electric hookup sites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The campground maintains designated pet-friendly trails connecting the camping areas to the park's nine interconnected lakes, making it ideal for dogs who enjoy water activities. Nearby, Hidden Diamonds Park also permits pets, though recent reviews indicate this municipal campground may no longer be operating. The primitive camping area at Chain O'Lakes offers more secluded, wooded sites that provide better privacy for campers with pets, while the main camping loops feature more open spaces. Sites in the non-electric loop tend to be larger and offer more separation between neighbors for pets that need extra space.

Dog owners find the park's extensive trail system particularly valuable, with multiple hiking paths where leashed pets can explore the woods and lakeshores. The canoe and kayak routes through the chain of lakes provide excellent opportunities for dogs who enjoy boat rides, with several designated shoreline areas where pets can swim. The campground strictly enforces leash requirements throughout all camping and recreation areas. Fishing spots around the lakes accommodate pets alongside their owners, with the fish cleaning station conveniently located for campers. During summer months, the campground can become quite busy, so securing reservations well in advance is essential for pet owners seeking the more private sites. The park's camp store stocks basic pet supplies for emergency needs, though bringing all necessary pet items is recommended.

Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground

    Great weekend!

Got to camp 9/10 and will be staying thru 9/12. Lot 102 is perfect! Shade the majority of the day, very back of the camp ground and close enough to walk to everything! We got up Saturday morning and rented a row boat for the day. Spent the day checking out the lakes, then hiked a couple of the trails. Trail 1 had a huge snake on a tree that I found fascinating lol. Great neighbors made it the perfect weekend get away! Will definitely be back! The staff is amazing, the restroom/showers were clean, and the whole park is very well maintained. I have Verizon and had no service from Albion all the way to the park. My wife has ATT and had spotty service in the park, just FYI

    Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

    Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

    Johnny Appleseed Campground

    Great location

The location here is pretty crazy it’s right in the middle of town but feels like a park there is a river and wooded area that makes you feel like you are in nature but you are just a parking lot away from an arena and college. There is a playground and a dog park. Here as well as ball diamonds. This is a great family friendly place but is very very busy during the season.

    Elkhart Campground

    3 1/2 star campground

It is a very large older CG with a few upgrades. Clean, with decent amenities. We were placed in the rear section, which was just ok. Site needed leveling, had no shade at all and was close to major hwy. The front and side sites seemed nicer and had ample shade with some concrete sites. Laundry room, pool and bathrooms were very clean. Large dog park, but was far from our site. Was only 25 min from Notre Dame and about an hour from lake Michigan WiFi was great, no cable, but good antenna reception

    Elkhart RV Resort by Rjourney

    Great campground!

Great campground in the heart of Amish country. Near Elkhart and the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum. Great place to visit, really interesting. Also, near Shipshewana. Campground has lots of activities: pool, miniature golf, volley ball, fishing pond, big chess set, bike rental, mining area, playground, and rec. hall w/ video games, pool, ping pong, air hockey, and juke box. Nice little store. Dog park. Clean restrooms. Friendly owner and employees. Lots of mature shed trees.

Guide to Albion

Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground accommodates pets throughout its camping areas that include tent sites, RV spaces with electric hookups, and cabins. The park provides both primitive and developed camping options while maintaining strict leash requirements for all animals. Nearby Hidden Diamonds Park also allows pets, though reviews indicate this small municipal campground is now closed despite its previous popularity as a recreation area with well-maintained facilities. Tent campers particularly appreciate Chain O' Lakes' primitive loop which features flat, level sites ideal for setting up with dogs, while RV campers have access to numerous electric hookup sites that include fire rings and picnic tables.

The connected lakes system at Chain O' Lakes offers excellent opportunities for dogs that enjoy water activities, with nine interconnected lakes accessible via narrow channels perfect for canoeing or kayaking with pets. Trail #4 provides access to a small four-site camping area on Rivir Lake shore that's accessible either by hiking in or boating, though sites 3 and 4 offer the best lake access for pets. The park store remains well-stocked with pet essentials and camping supplies, operating with extended hours on Friday and Saturday evenings but closing early on Sundays. Sites vary significantly in shade coverage and levelness, with the newer 385-416 loop offering the least shade protection for pets during summer months.
