Disconnected and Relaxing

Great cozy cabins to disconnect from reality. We visited as a family with a newborn and absolutely fell in love with the place. The owner of the facility definitely pays attention to details and keeps the location nice and updated.

Pros:

  • Very quiet
  • Hot tub in our room
  • Thorough customer…

Small treasure in Illinois, near Illinois RR Museum

We came across this one day during a day hike in the Marengo Ridge Forest preserve in McHenry county. It's about 90 mins NW of Chicago. The trails are both wooded and hilly, but there's also a large prairie nature walk.
The campground has many secluded walk-in tent sites and a variety of sites…

  • we had to push our little trailer up the hill, but the site was very pleasant and secluded

Great campground just outside of Chicago!

Did a quick stay with the kids for a Friday and Saturday night. A little bit smaller of a campground with regards to site space, but that's about the only thing 'bad' to say, and it's not really a bad thing at all.

Staff was very friendly and the facilities were kept very clean.

Plenty for…

Morrison Rockwood

Pretty location for boating or relaxing. Limited hiking with poor maps. Adequate pit toilets throughout campgrounds. One shower house with flush toilets that was decent. Concessions with snacks and boat rentals, but closed on Mondays--even holidays. Our campsite was spacious but some are open and…

Ammenitites aplenty

I reserved site B38 for me and my small dog, Bob. It’s a tent only site in the main camping area, only $16 per night after fees. Each site has a fire pit and I think all include a grill surface on the pit. Lots of good trees around for hammocking, especially at B38. Short walk to the shower and…

Great family owned campground

Clean bathrooms and showers, well maintained sites with water and electric. A bit cramped for tent camping as sites are small and no space between neighbors.

However 2 pools, activities, green river at back of campground for fishing, tubing, and trail hiking.

New

Had Electric and Water hookup. Very roomy and level sites. It's about 9 years old, so no trees. No swimming or fishing. Only hiking trails.

Nice family campground

We have camped here twice once in the fall once in the summer during the summer they provide at no charge kayaks and a shuttle to a drop-off point which you can kayak back down to the campground which takes about an hour and a half they space out the shuttles very well so you are not running into…

Good experience

We weren’t sure if we were going to like it because we were camping without kids, and it seems like the kind of campground that people with kids would go to because of all the fun activities. But noise was not an issue. Bathrooms were clean. Everything was good.

Quiet little campground

Nice long trail, friendly people, and a cute little ice cream shop that was a lifesaver after a long hike. Beautiful scenery, firewood available for $6 a bundle, water, electricity and fairly clean bathrooms with showers. We tent camped for $20 a night.

If you value your vacation time, skip this site!

I cannot express enough the horrific stay we had at this campground. When I say mud, just be prepared to be slipping and sliding everywhere because there is more mud than grass. The fly situation is out of hand. If you sit down at any given time, you'll find 20+ on you. The sites are super close…

Quiet, private sites, friendly host

If you want to spend a lot of your time just relaxing at camp, this is a great spot. Our site was huge, flat and private - no trouble finding flat ground to pitch the tent. It rained a lot, unfortunately, but the host stopped by and made sure we knew how to find the shower house for shelter if the…

Great spring camping

We camped the last weekend in April and we loved it. The pad was uneven but we got our pup leveled out. We couldn't hike as much due to some hunting still going on but we made due. We will be back to this camp ground.

  • good tree covering and distance from other sites
  • peaceful
  • nice sized sites
