Rock Cut State Park - Staghorn Campground in Loves Park provides full hookup RV sites with 30/50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The campground features both open and secluded sites, with some offering complete privacy among mature trees. Thousand Trails Pine Country in Belvidere, open April through October, accommodates big rigs with pull-through sites and includes water, electric, and sewer hookups. Sycamore RV Resort, available year-round, offers spacious gravel pads with full hookups and is designed for larger motorhomes. Lehmans Lakeside RV Resort in Marengo provides year-round access with 50-amp service and well-maintained sites. "Sites are very nice with ample gravel pads for parking. There is a central sewer dump for RVs, and easy access to electrical and plenty of space for slide outs."

Reservations are essential during summer and fall weekends when local RV parks reach capacity. Most campgrounds in the region maintain clean shower facilities and dump stations, though some visitors note highway noise affects certain sites, particularly at Lehmans Lakeside where "constant ambient sounds of highway traffic" can be heard from Route 90 approximately half a mile away. Cell service varies throughout the area, with several reviewers mentioning poor WiFi connectivity at certain parks. Pet-friendly policies are common across most RV resorts, with designated dog areas available at several locations. Propane refill services are limited, with Rock Cut State Park being one of the few offering on-site propane. Winter camping options are restricted primarily to Sycamore RV Resort and Lehmans Lakeside, as most parks close between mid-October and mid-April.

      Lake Kegonsa State Park Campground

This campground charges both a site reservation fee ($33 for a primitive mosquito infested tent site) AND an additional day use fee on top of that - a $16 fee on top of that! $49????? For a no hook up single tent site???? Of course the fees aren’t actually published anywhere so you have to reserve it to actually know what you’ll be paying. It’s nothing special so these fees aren’t actually warranted for this place. 👎

      Pearl Lake

      Late night party central

The park is beautiful. The water is beautiful. They say it's a gated community, but it's open to the public 9 to 5 daily. At twenty five dollars per person. And then on friday and saturday night, the locals that park here for the summer start their party central including karaoke at the camper next door, and several others. I've never had a camcround with that loud of parties. And it's a weekend event. I like hearing and seeing people having fun but when the manager extends the curfew for the parties she's at (they kind of party hop), it starts to affect the enjoyment of the park. If we had to stay, we'd stay in the S## sites in the back, where you don't hear so much of the partying. And then during the day, the rules began. Kind of like the soup nazi.

Prairie View — Chain O' Lakes State Park

      A lot to do.

There’s a lot of things to do out here. We did some hiking with our boy. The site we were at was maintained. It’s a nice place to go camping.

Honeysuckle Hollow — Chain O' Lakes State Park

Lively Little Campground Beside Turner Lake

There’s something wonderfully EZ about camping where the kids can wander down toward the water and suddenly the whole weekend seems to slow down ... and that’s the entire charm of Honeysuckle Hollow. Here at Chain O’Lakes State Park, Honeysuckle Hollow is the largest and most wide open of the park’s camping areas, with electric sites geared particularly well toward RV families, although the tradeoff is noticeably less shade and almost zero privacy between nearly every campsite, compared with neighboring Fox Den, which offers up much more seclusion and shade. The greatest asset here is undoubtedly the direct access to Turner Lake (although you could also have direct access over at Turner Lake South), giving families an EZ place to fish, paddle or simply explore the shoreline, while electric hookups, picnic tables, grills and a nearby restroom/shower building keep the actual camping comfortably simple. We especially loved those unhurried moments when the boys could wander toward the lake while dinner was getting started and everyone seemed perfectly happy just being outside together. The shower facility here is convenient, although we found it just slightly more dilapidated conditions than the bathhouse located closer to Fox Den. From what we saw, I’d choose one of the better-spaced sites toward the Turner Lake side of the campground, where EZ water access helps compensate for Honeysuckle’s limited privacy. I’d recommend Honeysuckle for families who value electricity, lake access and a lively campground atmosphere, particularly if having Turner Lake practically in your backyard matters more than having your neighbors hidden behind the trees.  One point to note is that the pier was in an advanced state of disrepair and so we were not able to fully maximize this particular amenity - so if accessing Turner Lake is important to you and your family, we would recommend calling ahead to verify the condition of the pier.

Staghorn Campground - Rock Cut State Park

Perfect for an overnight stop when travelling through I-90 & Rockford Ill

We are traveling mid week in September so did not make advanced reservations. The registration booth attendant assigned us site 506. (We were not permitted to drive through to pick our own location before registering). Our site was grassy and a bit muddy after some significant rains, but it was cozy with trees and tall brush on all sides. Pit toilets at each loop with a shower building just 5 minute walk away. You can hear the din of the highway about .5 miles away, but an easy place to stay if you are traveling through. Electricity on site, water spigots nearby and dump station near the entrance.

      Love's RV Hookup-Hampshire IL 763

      Cross country travelers

Last minute online reservation...They only have. 4 or 5 RV sites...full hook ups...about $60+-...right near gas pumps but any noise did not bother us weary travelers...Only downside was showers were not included....For the price certainly an included shower should be part of the deal...easy check in and check out.,..We used the Love's site due to its location to visit family and the fact that electric was available...We have medical equipment that requires a recharge at night plus it's just nice to have the AC if needed.

      Escape to Nature

      Simply Lovely

We had a truly enjoyable stay and would’ve stayed an extra day if our travel schedule would’ve allowed. David was a wonderful host. Greeted us with a smile and escorted us to our site. We had our choice of 2 spots, both lovely. Picnic table and plenty of FREE firewood to keep us cozy. Wild turkeys roamed the grounds as well as the friendly ducks. All in all, a very peaceful evening and a special place.

Whitewater Lake Campground & Hickory Woods Group Camp — Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit

      Nice Campsites

For a primitive campground, this was a nice-enough experience.

      Pros:

      - The sites we stayed in and the others that we noticed seemed sizeable and had nice tree-cover

      - Having access to the Ice Age Trail was really neat

      - Lake access nearby

      Cons:

      - On the continuum of vault toilet quality, these were on the less-desirable end.  We joked about whether it was scarier to visit them when they were dark or when the lights were on.  If you love having fly friends keep you company when nature calls, then these are the bathrooms for you!  The bathrooms did get cleaned on Sunday morning, but this didn't help the situation very much.

      - No showers

    Guide to Loves Park

Rock Cut State Park offers a diverse landscape of woodlands and wetland prairie spanning over 3,000 acres just minutes from the Illinois-Wisconsin border. The park features Pierce Lake with multiple boat launches and fishing opportunities throughout its nearly 40 miles of hiking trails. Campers should be aware that while electric hookups are widely available at RV sites near Loves Park, Illinois, many visitors note hearing highway noise from nearby I-90, especially in certain campground loops.

    What to do

Fishing at Pierce Lake: Rock Cut State Park provides catch-and-release fishing opportunities with various species available. One visitor noted, "Pierce Lake is great for fishing, boating, kayaking and swimming. To launch your watercraft, you'll head south to Hickory Hills campground where on the eastern side of this area you'll be able to find the boat launch."

Swimming at lakefront beaches: Lakeland Camping Resort in Milton offers a sandy beach area just a short drive from Loves Park. As one camper shared, "The beach was amazing!!" Another mentioned the resort has "2 swimming pools, a sandy beach, playgrounds, mini golf, sports courts, and even planned activities and themed weekends."

Outdoor activities year-round: Several parks provide seasonal recreation options. One Rock Cut State Park visitor mentioned, "State park offers some good hiking and all season activities. Camp ground was quiet and clean." Even in fall, campers find plenty to do: "There are plenty of scenic photo opportunities especially during the fall season."

    What campers like

Private sites with natural settings: Many campers value secluded spots away from crowds. A visitor to Pine Country RV and Camping Resort mentioned, "Tent camped here one night. Very nice, private sites. Not many campers, lots of RVs. Folks in the office were very helpful."

Heated pools and recreational amenities: Blackhawk Camping Resort has invested in numerous improvements, as one camper noted: "Brand new, in-ground heated pool, along with small kiddy pool and adjoining pool house complete with restroom and showers. A new basketball court has been refurbished with new netted hoops as well as new kid's playgrounds."

Clean facilities: Sycamore RV Resort maintains high standards for its amenities. One camper remarked, "Very nice shower house and restrooms. Very nice grounds that are quiet." Another visitor appreciated the "nice clean campground, quiet and beautiful lake for fishing, close to town, but yet just far enough out."

    What you should know

Highway noise impacts certain campgrounds: Traffic sounds can disrupt the camping experience, particularly at sites near major roads. One camper at Lehmans Lakeside RV Resort mentioned the "constant ambient sounds of highway traffic which is about 1/2 mile away from route 90."

Electrical service reliability varies: Some campgrounds have aging electrical infrastructure. A Rock Cut State Park visitor warned, "The electricity wasn't working. It was 93° on a Saturday. We called the Rangers and asked them to look at our site breaker since it kept tripping. They came, told us the park was old and not updated."

Site conditions and spacing: Campground density varies significantly across the region. A Lakeland Camping Resort camper noted, "It felt like we were packed in like sardines. Barely enough space to use the fire pit. Not much for shade and the only separating you from your neighbors are driveways/roads."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with dedicated children's areas: Northwoods RV Resort offers numerous family-friendly amenities. One camper described: "This pet-friendly 60-acre RV resort has all the attractions in spades from pickleball, playgrounds, volleyball, log pergola patio, full hook-ups, gaga ball, game room, jumping pillow, inflatable water toys."

Consider accessibility to town amenities: Having stores nearby can be important with children. One visitor noted, "If you need anything at all, there is a Walmart about ten minutes down the road."

Check activity schedules: Many campgrounds offer organized recreation. A Pine Country visitor shared, "Not much was set up for daily activities the weekend we stayed. It was very clean, nice pool, breakfast was good at the activity building."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection matters for larger rigs: Look for level, adequately sized spaces. One camper at Sycamore RV Resort recommended, "We stayed at a back in site, easy access and site had plenty of room on each side." For easier setup, follow staff guidance: "When we arrive, the host will bring you to your site and just listen to his directions and he will get you into your site perfectly."

Check seasonal availability: Operating seasons vary among campgrounds near Loves Park. A regular at Pine Country noted, "It is close to home and we start and finish the camping season here," while explaining the park operates from "April 20 to October 15."

Verify hookup options before booking: Full hookups aren't universal. One Sugar Shores RV Resort visitor mentioned, "Sites are expensive but full hook up," while a Sycamore RV Resort camper appreciated their "reliable full hookups" and "very clean and well cared for property."
