Crawford State Park is made up of 337 land acres and a 400 acre reservoir on the Western Slope of the Colorado Rockies. The reservoir is deep in the mountains with only one road nearby, so camping and recreating is relaxing and removed from the day-to-day travel. Popular activities include swimming, fishing and water skiing, as well as visiting nearby Black Canyon National PArk. Fisherman angle for perch, crappie, largemouth bass, northern pike, and channel catfish. A Colorado Parks Pass is required, in addition to nightly camping fees. There are two different campgrounds within the park.

Iron Creek Campground has 45 sites, and is located right next to the boat ramp. This campground has flushing toilets, and hot showers. There is also a dump station located at the exit to the campground. This is the preferred campground for those traveling with RVs or trailers.

Clear Fork Campground has  21 sites without hookups, so the fees are less. There are both vault and flushing toilets at this campground. From Clear Fork, there is a wide trail which allows hikers to access the swimming beach a short walk to the east. The swimming beach has picnic shelters and is ADA accessible.

Nearby attractions include the stunning views along the rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The towns of Hotchkiss and Montrose have vibrant agricultural opportunities including many You-Pick orchards, winery tours, and yearly festivals.

Dakota Terraces Campground

This is the most popular campground at Ridgway, located on the top of a mesa covered in Pinyon pine and juniper trees. Offering campsites 80-187, it is also part of the Dutch Charlie area of the park. RV campsites have electric hookups and shared water and there are 10 walk-in tent sites. The dump station is located down the hill at the entrance to the Dakota Terraces Campground.

RVers and campers will want to stop and stock up on supplies before heading toward the campgrounds by the Gunnison River. Offering some of the best camping in Nevada, campers can wander the trails catching stunning views of the striated Painted Wall cliff. Some of the wildlife you can expect to see include deer, elk, mule, and majestic golden eagles. Pitch a tent at one of the campsites by the river for a day of fishing or get a group together and stay in a cabin.

Currently, there are three campgrounds available during the summer season, with two on TBD status. Rocky Mountain campsites open at the end of May and close around late September. The three available campsites are all on a reservation system. Longs Peak, which is still TBD, is the only first-come, first-served camping option.
