    Waterfront RV Park

    Waterfront RV Park, CA

Located in Huntington Beach California. This site is right across the street from the beach. Be careful and aware when staying here. My husband and I had our mountain bikes stolen when sleeping. When we asked for camera footage the owners of the campground claimed the cameras were broken and they couldn’t share the footage. There are many homeless folks living in the area. The showers don’t get hot, but the area is clean. There is a pool and a hot tub and a small dog park. It’s expensive to stay here, but a beautiful spot.

    Hollywood RV Park

    Themed Park!

First of all, staff was amazing. We were originally supposed to arrive on a Tuesday and we’re not able to make it. Staff shifted our reservation instead of us eating the missed night cost. Also super accommodating allowing us to extend a day longer last minute. Park is tight quarters with 200 spots. Two laundry rooms/bathrooms with showers on site, plus a cute little dog park! We stayed for three nights. Every “road” in the park is themed with California or Hollywood themed decorations and murals. We were parked right next to a Mister Roger’s mural across from the laundry/bathrooms. My only complaint in the noise level at times which is not from the park itself. Helicopters would fly over randomly, sometimes at night and it could be annoying when trying to sleep. Otherwise, absolute GEM of a place!

    Hare School Park

It’s the sports fields parking lot

I’ve been here for a couple days and nobody’s mess with us. There’s other people that are staying in another parking lot attached that are homeless in their vehicles mostly cars and vans. I’m in a 25 foot Fleetwood RV. There’s a dog park kind of area with a big field they can run around and just clean up after them. There’s no public bathrooms, but there are trash cans so clean up after yourself please. It’s not tent friendly. I don’t believe.

Anaheim RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Disney Camping - Clean, Pool, Very Nice Restrooms/Showers

Anaheim RV Resort is close to Disney and is on the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus route. They have full hook up sites and room for large rigs - back-in and pull through. They are very pet friendly and even have a dog walking/feeding service (for an extra fee). There is a small pool and hot tub. The restrooms/showers and newly remodeled and very nice! Sites are all level and fairly large. We've stayed here 4 times and will be back again!

Rolling M. Ranch Campground — Chino Hills State Park

    Beautifully scenic area

Sprawling lush green hills? Can’t beat Chino Hills State Park.
The campground itself feels very close together and wide open compared to the space of the park. Gets loud at night if there are too many groups camping. No cell service. Super clean bathrooms and showers.

PET OWNERS BEWARE: Our dog munched on a frog at this campsite and started foaming at the mouth. We rinsed her mouth out with water and she turned out fine, but a smaller dog or a swallowed frog and she could have died from toxicity.

    Bonita Ranch Campground

    Loved this spot!!

A little gem hiding out in Lytle Creek! Easy access to a pretty trail right behind the campground. Very quiet and interspersed with long time stayers and temporary campers. I stayed in my van and had my cat and dog with me. Campfire wood was easily available and had its own picnic table. Beautiful scenery and we even got a dusting of snow! I stayed two nights while in town for work and it was perfect.

    Lake Campground

Acceptable last minute camping, not great, not terrible.

    Pros: Large campsites

              Clean-ish toilets

              Lake within walking distance

    Cons: Right near highway, noisy

Lots of flies during the day

               tent sites are very flat

Last minute trip and decided to check out Lake Campground. There are 8 sites placed on this hilly area, with a vault toilet in the center of the campground. It is located right next to the highway, so it can be pretty noisy during the day as its a popular route for motorcyclists. The campground itself was fairly clean, and all the sites were very large and spaced well away from each other. The sites weren't very flat, so options to set your tent up were very limited. Some sites had some shade, others almost none. There were tons of flies, very active during the daytime, but went away during the evening. The vault toilets were the cleanest I'd seen (For vault toilets) and the staff came through the campgrounds several times a day.

Jackson Lake is a short walk from the campgrounds. It has a nice day use picnic area with coal grills, picnic benches, and four vault toilets (in pretty poor condition). The lake was pretty small and had a stagnant smell to it. Lots of people were fishing, and a few people waded into the waters. I saw people in rafts / kayaks later in the day. The area was covered in fleas so careful with pets.

    Newport Dunes RV Resort

    Our favorite spot!

Beautiful weather, great location, full hook ups, fun activities, family & pet friendly!

Guide to Compton

Dockweiler Beach RV Park provides oceanfront camping with full hookups within 30 minutes of Compton. The dry camping area offers more space for smaller RVs than the hookup section, creating a quieter experience with beach access. Dogs must be leashed at all times in designated areas, and waste stations are available throughout the park.

What to do

Beach activities: 1 minute to sand: Dockweiler Beach RV Park offers immediate beach access with additional amenities. "The RV park has a hookup area and a dry camping area... The park is right next to the beach, walk 1 minute and you're there. There's also a bike path that goes for miles both north or south - great for an early workout," explains Ignasi M. Most sites include fire rings on the beach for evening gatherings.

Biking paths: 20+ mile routes: The coastal biking trails connect multiple camping areas around Compton. "Right off a very nice coastal 20+? mile walking/biking path. Went to a concert last minute at SoFi just 15 min away," notes PJ M. from Dockweiler Beach. Waterfront RV Park provides similar access, with one camper stating, "You're not on the beach but literally on the other side of Pacific Coast Highway you are there."

Water activities: kayaking options: Several parks offer water recreation beyond swimming. "There is camping, horseback riding, fishing, trails, biking, hiking, picnics, you can use your jet skies in designated areas, swimming on the pool areas, kayaking," shares Jessica P. about Bonelli Bluffs. This diverse recreation area offers alternatives when beach access isn't preferred.

What campers like

Urban accessibility: 15 minutes to venues: Camping near Compton provides convenient access to major attractions. "We went to a concert last minute at SoFi just 15 min away. Would definitely stay again if I need to be in LA," reports PJ M. about Dockweiler Beach RV Park. The location serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring the greater Los Angeles area.

Clean facilities: regularly maintained: Newport Dunes RV Resort maintains high standards with 372 full-hookup sites. "This is a very clean and well maintained park with a lot of amenities. This place is very family oriented and the staff is very nice. This location is close to good shopping and great dining options," explains Ray S. The resort provides fire rings on the beach similar to other coastal parks.

Pool amenities: reservation required: Several campers note the pool facilities require advance planning. "During COVID you need to reserve your time at the pool. Make sure you know that you want to stay here for the full time because there is not a generous refund policy," advises Anna about Golden Shore RV Resort. Another camper adds, "Staff keeps the grounds clean, clean bathrooms, heated pool and hot tub."

What you should know

Airport noise: LAX flight path: Dockweiler Beach RV Park sits directly under airport flight patterns. "You will hear each and every of the planes taking off from LAX, but at one point you don't hear them anymore. It was not really annoying, but that flight at 5a was," warns Ignasi M. Another camper shares, "We got used to the planes, but they are certainly jarring at first."

Site size considerations: Pet-friendly campgrounds vary widely in site spacing. "If you have a larger RV or slide-outs it is recommended you book Deluxe space or Deluxe space+ parking. Standard sites may be too narrow to extend awning," notes a camper about Anaheim Harbor RV Park. Many parks have size restrictions including measurement of hitches.

Bathroom access limitations: Several parks restrict overnight bathroom access. "Great place to spend the weekend. Close enough to some good shopping and restaurants! Only downside is they lock the bathrooms from 8pm-730am," mentions Derrick about Golden Shore RV Resort. Most parks require pets to be supervised at all times and keep them out of facility buildings.

Tips for camping with families

Tent options: limited availability: Families seeking tent camping have fewer choices near Compton. "The tent sites are very small with a picnic table and AstroTurf. There was only just enough space for my REI Hobitat 6 and VERY close to the neighboring tent site and bathrooms," reports Jessica R. about Anaheim Harbor RV Park, one of the few parks permitting tents.

Entertainment options: beach movies: Los Alamitos Army Campground offers military families two distinct camping areas. "Full hookup in both parks, Legacy (gravel for smaller RVs) and Sunset (cement spots with extra spot for a car)," explains Angela P. Newport Dunes also provides family programming: "They have activities for the kids like arts and crafts, an inflatable obstacle course or you can rent paddle boards or watch a movie on the beach."

Pool scheduling: reservation times: Families should plan pool visits in advance. "During COVID you need to reserve your time at the pool," advises Anna about Golden Shore RV Resort. Many families enjoy the heated pools but should note pets aren't permitted in these recreation areas at any pet-friendly campgrounds near Compton.

Tips from RVers

Dry camping: more spacious: RVers seeking more room should consider dry camping sections. "The RV park has a hookup area and a dry camping area. The hookups are full of large rigs, very close one with another, in a parking lot style. The dry camp provides much more space, but only relatively small RVs," advises Ignasi M. about Dockweiler Beach RV Park.

Site preparation: grooming before arrival: The concrete pads at campgrounds are regularly cleaned before check-in. "The spots are groomed and clean when you come in," mentions Theo A. about Golden Shore RV Resort. RVers should note most parks have a 14-day maximum stay policy with some requiring 60 days between visits.

Security: gated access: Many RV parks provide enhanced security measures. "Security is very good and felt very safe, especially considering the location. The staff was very nice and helpful. The grounds are kept in excellent condition - very clean and secure," shares Rachel P. about Golden Shore RV Resort, providing peace of mind for pet owners and families alike.
