Open! (Jan 2022)

Super spectacular views! I went all the way to the end as it allows some walking around room. If you’re tent camping beware the wind, gets pretty crazy. Had one wind free day out of three. Looking down on the bay, San Luis Obispo and HW 1. Can’t stress how flippin beautiful it was. Just. Wow.

Great campground near Morro Bay

We had such a wonderful time staying 3 nights at Cerro Alto campground. Most sites are spaced for privacy. Very quite & peaceful. Easy access to hiking trails (Cerro Alto summit) from campsite. About a 20 min drive to Morro Bay/ Morro Rock. Pit toilets. No showers.

Only issue we encountered…

Pine Knolls

We were headed to Kirk creek for New Years and hwy 1 was closed, so we found here as a alternative. Pretty much had the place to ourselves probably because it poured for 3 days prior and was cold. Bathrooms were clean, campsites are really close together, we overland and need a wide campsite for…

Oh, Morro Bay!

It was so beautiful here! The campground is across the road from the gorgeous estuary, which you can explore via a boardwalk. There's a fun restaurant and a natural history museum there too. The campground itself isn't super fancy, but you might get to see monarch butterflies migrating! Campsites…

Easy Beach Camping

We stayed in the upper primitive Washburn campground. It is small and sites don't offer much privacy (rv lights shining on our tent) so it wasn't our favorite type of camping experience. But the hike to the beach is  perfect and beautiful. We drove through the lower campground and it is much closer…

Beautiful campground

This place is amazing. Nice private sites. Our site was on the side of a large hill overlooking everything. We were king of the mountain. Campground is remote but SO worth it. A bit pricy but each site has concrete patio along with patio furniture and a nice charcoal grill. Sitting out at night…

Chill even when chilly

People walking & talking. Up and over the Dunes to the ocean. Parents spending time with their children. Family volley ball from 4-7 ish down the way with lots of laughter. Geese heading out in formation over the central camp-plane. Butterflies butterflies butterflies 😯

  • 24 has enticing shade (noon). 23 has no shade but I'm usually in town & along the coastline during midday. The breeze was sufficient (12/01) however 👍

Dispersed campground

Great views, just a spot to park, and maybe go for a walk but nothing else.

Camp hosts are out of their minds

Camped here 11-28-21, the current camp hosts were out of control, yelling, aggressive, and just rude all around. Definitely acting in what would be called an altered mental status. If there was a polite host or even one that didn’t have a desire to abuse the little power they were given the place…

Our first camp out

Nice place near beach with clean bathrooms. We were able to get a spot by just showing up. Dogs are not allowed on the beach or trails.

Windy night

This spot was perfect for car camping. The night I was there was very windy and rocked the car most of the night. 3 other cars also stayed at the top of this mountain. Beautiful views in the morning!
