    Excellent

Amazing cg! Site Catoma 33. Back in site water behind. But cliff is too intense to go down. Gorgeous site, huge, shady, and across from restrooms. Boat ramp. Rode bikes around, but not many places to go besides cg. Friendly hosts and great place!

    Very nice campground

Wow, this is such a pretty campground! Our site is absolutely huge! I absolutely love all of the trees!! Unfortunately, it’s still 97° out. 🤣 We are in the shade for most of the day. With a fan, it wasn’t too bad sitting outside in the shade. I am so excited to see the lightning bugs. We don’t have them in my part of FL.

We have one bathhouse near our site (across from site 34), which appears to be older. I do love that the water is regulated and will only be on for a short amount of time. The lights have a motion sensor, which is a great idea. Unfortunately as I was getting dressed, the light turned off and wouldn’t turn back on. I had to open the door and flail around to get it to turn back on. Sorry for anyone who may have witnessed that. lol I was covered up, I promise. The water did not drain where the changing area is. The water just puddled there. We ran across the bathhouse by site 71 and that one is way better. It has AC too, which was nice in this heat. Yes, we use the showers at campgrounds. This also has washers and dryers, but both washers are broken. 😞 Our RV shower is really small and I like to actually move my arms around while showering. Please don’t criticize us for our decision.

Our unfortunate event: while sitting outside, something smell really rancid. Unfortunately, people before us lost their dog. We walked down to look at the water and that’s when we discovered the body. 🥺 I called the front office and they were able to confirm that it was the lost dog. We were unable to sit outside most of the time because of the decay smell drifting up to our site. We hoped the ranger would have come here to pick up the body for the people, but they never showed up. Not the camp hosts responsibility at all and I’m not blaming them. I hope the owners were able to get some closure, but I can’t imagine how they feel.

    Amazing

This cg is amazing! We were in Catoma Loop. Huge sites, water in back, 50 amp, FHU. Restroom good condition and directly across from us. Very well maintained and friendly hosts. Very quiet. Plenty of walking, and biking. Has a boat launch. Definitely stay here again.

Ashley here with The Dyrt. We're happy to have this property on our platform. There are 2 campsites located next to a 3 acre pond. Give them a try and leave them some love.

    Beautiful Friendly Park

We arrived and were welcomed by the owner who was very helpful and incredibly friendly. She directed us to our beautiful site right on the river

So quiet and secluded it felt like we had the whole site to our selves.

Fun park for the kids to play on.

Spacious Wooded sites on the Water

Spacious campground with mature trees. (Birders bring your binoculars).

Sites overlooking the water are nicer, in my opinion.

Thankful for bath house with hot showers, even though they were showing their age.

    Not what we hoped for

We stayed in the Antioch loop on site 93. The site was super close to 92 and 94. We felt we had no personal space. A couple kept walking through our campsite to get to a boat they had parked at our site. I love rustic but Antioch was not rustic, it was over grown and did not look maintained. We think they are letting the Antioch loop go. If that something you like, over grown and close, Antioch loop is for you. We do plan to come back and will try out the Catoma Loop. Catoma Loop looks more like what we enjoy; spaced out, maintained and welcoming.

Gorgeous but mosquitos gorged on us BRING DEET

Would give 5 stars if not for mosquitos and no-see-ums that came right through our RV screens. Even repellent didn't seem to stop them from biting on one particular evening, but the second day was better. We could see the lake from our site, which had full hook-ups even tho' sewer hook up wasn't mentioned on recreation.gov. Birders we traveled with enjoyed many sightings. Bathroom not immaculate but clean enough and had coin washer and dryer in pavilion.

    Clean and spacious

The park is quite with widely spaced sites. Most sites are about 90 feet apart. One section has FHU’s. Wooded area so satellite TV will be challenging in summer, but park is close to Montgomery so over-the-air stations are plentiful. Many sites are on the water and can fish from the bank. Park is about 10 miles from Prattville if shopping and restaurants are your thing.

Love this place, but cell coverage spotty

This is always our go-to place to stop at when in the area. Lovely rustic campground divided into two distinct loops, one feels like it’s from the 70’s ( w&e, no sewer) and the newer side that has full hookups for an additional $4 a day. Last time I was using ATT, and coverage was fair. This time I am on Visible with a WeBoost-and struggling to view presentations with any consistency. Be warned if this is a necessity. We love the campground and will be back

    Clean, quiet and nice setting

Good, level spots. Well-spaced but not private.

About 50% full on the night we stayed and lots of really nice camping rigs. Saw no tents except ours (roof top tent).

Dollar General near the entrance and only about 20 minutes from Montgomery.

Couple of nice playgrounds for kids to run off energy.

Restrooms/showers were ok. Could use some TLC.

Definitely would stay here again. Not sure I would for a whole week though.

    Nice site with full hookups

Gunter Hill was a nice COE campground. We had site 32 in the Catoma Loop (only loop open - we stayed at the end of January for one night). The sites are level and had full hookups. Our site had a good view of the lake, but I’m not sure you’d have that view once trees and underbrush have full leaves. Only disappointments were we had a strong sewage smell around our site when we first got there - the smell went away so maybe it was just the direction of the wind (the bath house is across the road). And when we walked through our woods behind our site to look at the lake, we were saddened to see tons of trash in the woods - made the pretty view of the lake a lot less appealing. We would stay here again for a one night, but probably not for a long stay.

    Peaceful & Beautiful

Gunter Hill is a gem of a campground! Sites are spacious, long, and paved with full hookups. We were on the lake in site 28. The bathrooms & showers are older but adequate. Wished we could have stayed more than one night.

Gunter Hill Park - Mid State Gem

Gunter Hill Park is a Corp of Engineers campground just outside of Montgomery, Alabama. Although we have not camped at many COE parks, I can't imagine any of them topping this one! Of the 142 sites, 1-75 are renovated with concrete pads and full hook-ups. We were there in February and the weather was a little wet & cold. Since it wasn't very crowded, only 1 area of campsites was open. Be aware if you're there during a string of heavy rain days as some low lying sites may become flooded. Our site backed up to a point where we could sit and watch the water. However, if we had stayed another day we would have been told to move as more rain was expected and the water levels were rising.

The bathrooms were very clean and well maintained. There were also a few hiking trails and nice paved roads for bikes. I did smell a paper factory in the air while we were there. I've also read that you can hear the race cars from the Montgomery Speedway during racing season from your campsite.

There was a lot to explore around the area as well. We went into Montgomery several times. I recommend checking out the AL Dept of History & Archives free museum. Its very well done and I learned a lot about Alabama. We also visited the Memorial for Peace & Justice along with the Legacy Museum. Both very well done and thought provoking.

For a different setting for a meal, check out the nearby Stockyard Grill. You can go in for a burger and leave with the whole cow!

    Ok campsite, terrible customer service

Called around 4 pm to ask about availability and the woman said it was first come first serve and to follow the directions if we got there late. We got there at 6:30 and nobody was at the entrance so we put a marker where we wanted to camp and went on our way. Everything was clean and the campsite was very quiet. Nice overall.

When we went to check out in the morning, we were told we parked in the $30 lot and not the $18 (there was no signage). The man said he would give us the $18 rate since we did not know... but then this woman comes and starts yelling at him and telling him to “never do that again”. They bicker with each other for 20 minutes while we are standing right there! We finally pay and when we say that we were in a rush, hoping to move the payment process along since they did not accept cash, the woman starts yelling at us telling us that we have no right to tell her how to run her business and throws the receipt at us. We (finally) get in the car and she yells at us to get out and “never come back”. No worries. We won’t.

Nice sites but noisy on race days

Stayed in the Antioch Loop (older section). The sites are a nice size with gravel. Water and electric. Lots of trees and shade. Nice playground and air conditioned shower house. Saw laundry was available but didn’t use. Lots of Spanish moss. The downside, Saturday night race nearby was really loud. I wasn’t terribly bothered but some people might be. Check the raceway schedule before you book.

    QUIET AND PEACEFUL

Driving up to this campground, I almost turned around. But, getting here, I am so glad we didn't! Our site, #34 on the Catoma side, was perfectly level, easy to back in, and a lot of personal space between campers. The view is amazing! The water is right behind us! We have full hookups here, which makes it so easy. There is a small playground area for the kids and a bath house within walking distance.

    Many things to do

Near Montgomery AL and the Hank Williams museum and the Alabama Shakespeare Theater. We also have the White House of the Confederacy. The campground itself is very nice. They only have one laundry area with just a couple of machines. They have 2 seperate playgrounds, and only 2 restroom areas. There are quite a few pull through sites. The sites are very large and paved. You just have to be aware of snakes and mosquitoes.

    Gunter Hill

    Quiet in the Shoulder Season

In New England it's challenging to find a campground that is open in late November/early December but that's certainly not the case in the south! Sometimes I experience the opposite problem, tons of people everywhere thanks to the warmer weather. However, when we pulled into Gunter Hill this time of year we were surprised to see how empty the place was. There were a few large RVs in the area but only one other tent camper like ourselves.

The sites are nicely spaced out so even if there had been a lot of people there, it wouldn't have felt too crowded. Large old trees with beautiful Spanish moss provide plenty of shade in the sites. The river also runs pretty close to some of the sites as well. Our site had a nice paved pull in as well as a gravel area with a large picnic table and fire ring. In addition there was a stand up grill available as well. On the other side of the concrete pull in was a nice flat spot for us to pitch our tent. Plenty of room for everything here. Water and electric hookups were easily accessible right in our site. The ground below the water spigot drains well and doesn't create a large mud puddle when you use it, a piece of campground engineering I have come to greatly appreciate. The site has a nice lantern/trash pole that includes a small shelf, great for all sorts of things!

The bathrooms are nice and were all maintained. We didn't use the showers but the toilets and sinks were more than adequate for morning and evening necessities.

The location is great, right outside of the city and perfectly placed for us to stop on our road trip from the national park sites in Tuskegee and heading to them in Selma.

Despite being two females and the campground being relatively empty, we felt incredibly safe. I mention this because this is not always the case when we camp in southern states.
