Deep in New Hampshire's largest state park, Bear Brook State Park Campground sits several miles from the nearest highway along winding forest roads. The drive back through dense woods creates a sense of remoteness that campers appreciate, though the access road can present challenges for larger rigs navigating tight corners on some loops.
Towering pines shade most of the 97 sites, with many separated by large downed trees that provide natural privacy barriers. Site sizes vary considerably across the campground's multiple loops. Ellen C. found site 22 "spacious and private from the other sites on either side," while others note sites near the playground area offer less seclusion. The maple and conifer forest setting keeps most areas shaded, though sites backing the baseball field catch morning sun.
Beaver Pond anchors the recreation options with a small swimming beach, though no sites offer direct water views through the thick woods. Hiking trails loop around the pond and extend throughout the 10,000-acre park, with mountain bikers frequently using the same paths during afternoon hours. The campground includes two playgrounds, archery ranges, and wheelchair-accessible fishing docks. A well-stocked camp store provides basics and stays open until 8 PM.
Sites accommodate RVs up to 35 feet with electric, water, and sewer hookups available, plus a dump station for those without sewer connections. Coin-operated shower facilities serve the campground, though cleanliness can vary late in the season. Cell coverage reaches 1-2 bars for most carriers. Reservations help secure preferred sites during peak summer months, when the campground fills with families from nearby Manchester and Concord. For a different lakeside experience, Bear Hill Cabins — Bear Brook State Park offers rustic accommodations on a remote lake within the same park system.
Description
Bear Brook, with over 10,000 acres, is the largest developed state park in New Hampshire. Located in the southeast region of the state. Hiking, biking, swimming and fishing are a few of the favorite things to do. Forty miles of trails through the heavily forested park, leading to seldom visited marshes, bogs, summits and ponds, offer a variety of options for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Canoe rentals are available at both Beaver and Catamount Ponds, while rowboat rentals are also available at Beaver Pond. Fly-fishing enthusiasts will be pleased to know Archery Pond welcomes their specialty and is universally accessible. Across the road from Archery Pond is a special little pond just for children under twelve to fish. If archery is your sport you might already know that Bear Brook boasts two archery ranges. Two ranges, a 15-target range and 4-target practice range that is universally accessible. (Bring your own archery equipment.) You can stay in shape by using the park's 1-1/4 mile, 20-station fitness course that is fun for the whole family.
