Nestled in the woods, one of the few where there is no road noise!

Russell Pond is a really nice find. Unlike most campgrounds there is a good amount of low vegetation between sites for privacy. We also loved that our firepit faced the woods rather than the road or another campsite, which is often how the sites are set up. The pond is small but very pretty and very shallow and sandy. We took our dogs on a romp to swim and wade in the water. The bathrooms are tired, the bathhouse I was closest to had one of three stalls functioning and one of two sinks were operational. However, they were perfectly clean. I didn't check out the shower. I chatted a bit with the camp manager, and she mentioned the bathrooms are slated for updates in the spring. All around the campground is peaceful, well maintained, and you really feel like you are fully in nature!

Small but mighty

This campground has a small amount of sites are close together without much in the way of privacy. There is road noise even at sites furthest from The road.

There are a couple Tentrr sites with much more privacy than the regular sites. The outhouses aren’t great and need some updating. However, there is a flush toilet and a shower near the host site. There is also a sort of kitchen for your use that’s really great. It even has a microwave. Wood is available from the camp host and we picked up a nice sized bundle for $5. There are a number of trails right at the campground and loads of mtn bike trails on both sides of the park. Ticks are numerous.

Great location if you time it right

First thing about Cranberry Lake: the staff are wonderful. We arrived when the check in staff had the day off. Not a problem we only needed wood which was available just down the street from the campground. No need, the ranger, who let us know the overworked staff was off, brought it to our site once he had figured out the key. Sweet. Our site was on the uphill slope so we had some road noise due to that. We walked a bit of the campground until we realized it's larger than first assumed. I will say do your homework, check out the site photos which you can easily find online. Get a waterfront site but be aware the privacy isn't great at many sites, at least the ones we saw. There is a shower house which is great but be ready to drive to it, as I said the campground is bigger than expected! Some sites are super close which would be great for groups who may like to visit or it could be a nightmare with loud folks. The lake is beautiful. We weren't set up for it but if you can plan for the sunset view I think it's worth rescheduling your trip for the right site. Brand new sewer dump area for folks who need it.

Great spot, small pond, good fishing, waterfront sites

We really liked this campground. Sites are a good size and we were able to snag a water front site which was really beautiful. There are also lean-to sites and some cabins. We fished and kayaked right from our site. Oddly, our fire pit faced the neighboring site rather than the pond. There are some hiking trails right from the campground and we saw lots of efts!

Very friendly rangers and very clean

We enjoyed ourselves at this campground very much. The sites are spacious although in the area where we stayed the vegetation was pretty sparse between sites. The bathrooms are clean and have showers. We were able to let our dogs swim at the boat ramp which was a definite plus. We also caught some fish from the shore here. The rangers were super friendly and we picked up a new VT State Park hat from them during our visit. We would definitely visit again. There are other parks to visit nearby and the farmers market is a must.

Great camping

We enjoyed our stay here. My parents stayed in a bunkhouse and my husband and I stayed on the adjacent site. Bunkhouse is very basic but clean. Sites are well spaced with lots of types to choose from. More wooded, close to beach, open fields.

Fantastic location with a shuttle to Bar Harbor and other sites.

I have been going to Blackwoods yearly for nearly 20 years. Acadia is a special place but in recent years has just gotten a little too overrun for us. Despite the huge visitor increase, the campground has done a decent job of maintaining the sites. The bathrooms are tired and there is no dishwashing station. But it's the location that brings us back. You can bring your thermos down to the cliffs along the road and watch the sky brighten. It's really amazing. We even had an eagle do a fly-by while enjoying our coffee. The shuttle provides a great way to get to town to dinner or even a hiking trail.

Beautifully carved out of the woods. Off the beaten path.

Schoodic woods is a great place to get away from the heavily used paths and campgrounds of Mt Desert. The sites are really private. Some sites are sunnier than others and there also are some hike in sites as well. We have a drop camper and were able to use the electric and water hookup which was a nice treat. No generator noise from the neighbors. There are pull-through sites for the folks that prefer that also. Our site backed up to the woods which was outstanding. We had a bunny hop through our site followed shortly after by a coyote so nature is definitely present! This place is brand-spanking new and worth a visit. The bathrooms and dishwashing stations are excellent. This is a "lights out" campground so you can enjoy the stars!

Sites are not private at all but that's to be expected on a beach

We camped here in April with few other campers. It was magical. We picked up an Oversands permit and enjoyed the beach by ourselves other than the horses and seals. The winds were whipping but we were happy with the limited crowds. There is also a nice walking trail and a canoe launch. We really enjoyed this campground. No hot showers, so be ready for that!

Very quite peaceful location

We loved it here. It was super quiet in late May. There were tons of dragonfly larva emerging from the pond and drying their wings. We also saw lots of trillium and lady slippers on a nearby hike. Really outstanding view right at the campground picnic area.

Open field camping with some trees, great location

We like it here  even though it's not our usual kind of campground. It has drivethu sites and full hookups. We usually dry camp. Lots of healthy grass at the sites. Flat spot for our drop camper. Clean bathrooms also.

Great spot to use as a weekend getaway but not much for a long visit.

We stayed on a Saturday and Sunday in July. This is a small campground with lots of trails nearby and a pond for our dogs to swim. The mosquitos were out in force. We had a screen tent so had no problem. The ranger was super nice and the bathrooms were clean with a nice dishwashing area. Bear boxes were provided which was great. Even though it was July, we were the only campers in the entire place Sunday night. So we were treated to a really great lightning bug display and watched the raccoons check out the other sites. Didn't bother us at all. Definitely wouldn't choose to camp by the road and the sites aren't really private. It's a tiny campground but a good pitstop on your way!

Large with open fields and more wooded sites. Swimming lake at campground

We enjoyed this campground very much. It's very large with open field sites with large pines for shade and more wooded private areas. There are a number of walking trails right from the campground. There were a lot of mountain bike folks who would ride in late afternoon. Seems like a good place for bikes. There is a nice swimming lake but no lakefront sites. Lots of critters to see on the trails!

Friendly, Spacious lots of waterfront sites, some noise from boat traffice

We love Tolland and have had good luck securing lakefront sites. We have brought out kayaks and took off right from the site. There are rocks to get into the water but the water is clean and not mucky. The bathhouses have always been clean with sinks to wash your dishes. There is plenty of vegetation between sites. There are some easy hikes nearby also. Great for our dogs also.
