The Burr Oak Campground is in Burr Oak State Park, on the western shores of the Burr Oak Reservoir. The campground has reservable sites for tents and RVs, including equestrian and electric sites. Standard amenities include fire rings, flush toilets, showers, and horseshoe pits. They also have a private beach and marina, an archery range, a disc golf course, 27 miles of trails, and a nature center. You’ll never run out of things to do in Burr Oak. 2. Hocking Hills Jellystone Campground

The Hocking Hills Jellystone Campground is in the Hocking Hills region of Wayne National Forest. This campground is a little more than some others, but they offer many fun amenities and events. They have reservable sites for tents and RVs. Amenities include Wi-Fi, full hookups, flush toilets, showers, laundry, and a general store. Extra amenities include a private beach, a pool, a fishing lake, yard games, and trails. There’s so much to do in the campground, but if you decide to branch out, you’ll find even more hiking opportunities and natural wonders. 3. Wildcat Hollow Hiking Trail

The Wildcat Hollow Hiking Trail dispersed camping is a few miles north of the Burr Oak Reservoir. It’s a free dispersed camping area at the Wildcat Hollow trailhead. It’s a popular place for hikers and backpackers to sleep before they embark on the Wildcat Hollow Trail. This primitive camping area has fire rings and a vault toilet but no other amenities. Bring water and supplies. You can also camp at designated dispersed sites along the trail. The Wildcat Hollow dispersed camping area is a great way to rest and get ready for your hike (or trek) along the trail.

4. Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area

The Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area is on the Ohio border, six miles from Ironton. This rec area has three campgrounds to choose from: Iron Ridge, Oak Hill, and the primitive Pine Knob Loop. The developed campgrounds have reservable and first-come-first-served sites for tents and RVs. Amenities include electric hookups, fire rings, flush toilets, and showers. Both campgrounds offer incredible views of Lake Vesuvius and quick access to hiking trails. The 143-acre lake is a popular swimming and fishing destination. You can catch bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. You can also try your hand at archery, learn about native history, or take in the local wildlife. Lake Vesuvius is the perfect place to get away, relax on the water, and soak up Ohio’s natural beauty.

5. Hune Bridge Campground

The Hune Bridge Campground sits on the shores of the Little Muskingum River, next to the Hune Bridge. This quiet little campground has first-come-first-served sites for tents and smaller RVs. Campsites come with fire rings, picnic tables, and access to vault toilets. You’re within walking distance to the picturesque bridge, so bring a camera. You can fish the river for smallmouth bass, drop in a canoe, or hike to the Rinard Covered Bridge. The Hune Bridge Campground is a secluded camping spot in a beautiful forest with charming architecture.

“Adorable little campground, with a historic covered bridge and lovely creek in the backyard. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern pole. No drinking water is available, but there are creeks all around, so come prepared with a water filter! The creeks are also great for fishing and float trips. The town of Marietta is just 15 miles away, and has all the things you need.”Shari G.
