Searching For Cozyness in The Cold

I think we can all agree that the most common “enemy” of any outdoor adventure is…cold.

Even if it’s nice and sunny during the day, it can turn seriously chilly as soon as the sun goes down. Plus, temperatures just continue to drop throughout the night. This is especially true for camping at high elevations or in windy conditions. And except for a few months out of the year, chilly nights are all but an inevitability for most of the country, most of the year.

I stumbled into creating The Cozee Battery Powered Heating Blanket with this cold weather issue in mind. And more specifically, I wanted to provide a way for our “special needs” daughter Brianna (or BooBoo as she calls herself) to enjoy the great outdoors, without becoming an icicle.

As a Dad, I was determined to find a solution.

I remember the first time Brianna used one of our first actual production blankets back in 2019. We were at an outdoor event, and all day long I kept asking her, “Are you warm sweet girl”. And all she would say in return was, “ummm” with a smile. We stayed at the event until after midnight—something we were never able to do with BooBoo in the past.

As you can imagine, we shed tears of joy that day, seeing our daughter cozy, content, and undeterred by the cold weather. Then, when we got home and eventually convinced Brianna to take off The Cozee, we were ecstatic to feel how toasty warm she was all over! (Click here to read our full origin story.)

Shortly after that amazing day, my wife Carolynne, discovered that in 1948, Mr. Candido Jacuzzi (yes, that Jacuzzi) developed the first hydrotherapy pump, the J-300, to treat his son’s (Ken Jacuzzi) rheumatoid arthritis between hospital visits.

We could not believe the similarity between our stories—both of us looking for a “heated” solution for our “special needs” child.

What we did not expect is that everyone else on the planet would want one too. Especially the camping community.

What Others Are Saying About The Cozee

Here are just a few comments from our amazing customers:

  • “I’m using the Cozee inside my sleeping bag, and I’ve never slept this good!”
  • “We lay the Cozee over us in our RV…we’re sleeping like babies.”
  • “I am able to sit around the fire pit without having to be so close to stay warm. The Cozee is super comfortable.”
  • “Mom has the Cozee wrapped around her when we leave the dock and on our way back in! Smiling the whole time!”
  • “I’m loving the fact that I can actually sit outside and gaze at the stars. I would never be able to do that without my Cozee!

Thousands of RVers, tent campers, overlanders, boaters, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds are refusing to leave home without it!

Hutch and Shari, of Freedom In A Can fame, are also big fans of the Cozee. These freelance writers/photographers/speakers have been living in their 72 sq ft vintage camper, full-time, since 2012. Shari discovered The Cozee in 2021 and it quickly changed the way she was able to experience the outdoors.

“As an active full-time RVer for the past 9 years, I love being outside” said Shari. “I spend most of my days hiking, paddling, and cycling outside and I thoroughly enjoy being active when it is cold. But just sitting in the cold is simply painful for me. I looked everywhere for a 12V cordless heating pad — something that I could easily charge off our solar system battery and use outside for a couple of hours when it got too cold. I came up empty after an extensive search.”

That is when she was introduced to The Cozee.

“Now I can be warm while watching the sunrise, staying out long after the sun sets to get the real show that Mother Nature provides, sitting around a campfire, and star gazing. It is also great for those afternoon naps in the hammock when it is just a little too chilly to be comfortable without a blanket.” Shari laughs, “Is it ok to be 50-something and still have a favorite blankie?”
