Only 30 miles from Green Bay, High Cliff gets its name from a limestone cliff known as the Niagara Escarpment. The Niagara Escarpment is a 650-mile cuesta (a hill with a gentle slope on one side & a steep slope on the other) stretching from Wisconsin to just south of Rochester, New York. If you get to the top, be sure to visit the peak’s popular attraction, a monument to Chief Red Bird.

2. Potawatomi

Located right on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, Potawatomi is named after the indigenous people who lived here centuries ago.
Potawatomi State Park has 1,200 acres of rolling hills and limestone cliffs. With 2 miles of coastline on Sturgeon Bay, the observation tower has an excellent view across to Green Bay on clear days.
Boating, fishing, hiking, and biking are all excellent recreational choices, and the campground has a nice mix of paved and unpaved spots. On-site amenities include hot showers, laundry, and seasonal activities.

4. Devils River Campground

With just a 30 minute drive southeast from Green Bay, you’ll find yourself at the Devils River Campground, a breathtaking area with limestone cliffs and waterfalls.
Campsites are located in grassy areas between shady trees, and RV sites are spacious and comfortable with plenty of room to maneuver your rig for parking. Check out the caverns of Cherney Maribel Caves Park a mile south, or explore history at the Rock Mill.

5. Calumet County Park

Overlooking Lake Winnebago on the Niagara Escarpment, Calumet County Park has plenty of history to go around. The site consists of six effigy mounds of panthers and water spirits, left there by the indigenous peoples.
With playgrounds, a boat ramp, a store if you’ve forgotten anything, and gorgeous vistas of the lake, this campground—less than an hour from Green Bay—is an exceptional place for history buffs and families alike.

6. Wolf River Campgrounds

With the Wolf and the Little Wolf Rivers close by, you can enjoy tubing, kayaking, and canoeing right from your tent at Wolf River Campgrounds.
With over a hundred sites, 64 of which include full hook-ups, you have great options for how rustic you want to rough it. The campground is usually open from May to October. And given how this is a riverfront property, visiting during the warmer months is your best bet anyway. That’s when you’re going to get the most water-filled fun out of this fantastic location.

7. Point Beach State Forest

On the shores of Lake Michigan sits Point Beach State Forest, only 42 miles from Green Bay. With year-round activities, including snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, the fun never ends.
You can walk right out of your tent or RV and onto the shore of the lake, or you can explore the wetland swales and the beautiful sand dunes. An on-site camp store is stocked with all of the provisions you may have forgotten at home. And you won’t want to miss out on making a trip to the nearby Rawley Point Lighthouse.
