Residents and visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor recreational options including a well-equipped playground, picnic shelters, boat launch ramp, RV parking, and more. The park is also handicapped accessible with paved walkways and an asphalt parking lot.
There are also paved asphalt RV parking spots for overnight camping at St. Albans Roadside Park. If you are traveling through the area with your RV, pull behind camper or travel trailer, Roadside Park in St. Albans is a great place to stop while passing through town.
Pull-through sites are available at our quaint campground with a maximum stay of 2 nights within a 15-day period. Campers’ additional features include fresh water and electric hookups with a dump station when your stay with us is complete. Overnight Tent camping is prohibited on our property.
Reserveations are not required for RV camping spaces.
This forested campground offers both tent and RV sites near the banks of the New River and the Glade Creek Trailhead. There are 6 walk-in tents sites and 5 drive-in sites for tents, RVs, or campers. There is 1 accessible site. Only small (less than 25 feet) and medium (22 - 31.5 feet) RVs or campers are recommended. Camp only at designated sites. RV, camper, or car camping in non-designated sites, walk-in sites, or any parking area is strictly prohibited.
We are located across from the newly constructed Hatfield McCoy Visitor’s Trail Center. The campground is twenty miles south of Charleston, WV nestled between Corridor G (Route 119) and the Little Coal River near Julian. The campground has 17 RV sites with a large amount of primitive camping available. The RV sites have water, sewer and 20/30/50 amp power hookups. We have a large renovated bathhouse with heat and air conditioning. The vending machine room has a microwave for your convenience. The campground has DIRECT access to the Little Coal River Trailhead.
The campground is located along the banks of the Little Coal River. The tranquil stream offers fishing spots along its scenic banks. Shopping and fine cuisine for all, is just twenty minutes north. Many attractions are located near Charleston.
The campground has one two bedroom cabin. Also, a 36 foot travel trailer is for rent.
The remaining Hatfield McCoy trails are to our south.

The owners are so so kind and thoughtful! They made the experience here fantastic. These are full hook up sites, very affordable and great proximity to the mid and lower areas of New River Gorge National Park.
It’s definitely a no frills location. Some permanent sites mixed in but everyone was very respectful and nice. No bathhouse option but that’s fine with full hookups.
Just beware when getting here there is a very narrow road, little to at times no room to allow for another vehicle if you happen to meet up. Some large rigs got through it just don’t go fast. There is a sign pointing to the narrow road that tells you where the Rv park is.

Great campground with roughly 40 sites for tent and RV camping. We called 30 minutes before our arrival and the friendly staff was able to accommodate us last minute. They drive me around on the side by side to let me pick our site. Most had full hook up but I ended up with a water and electric only. All facilities were clean and dump station was at a convenient location. I’ll be back!

I used to love Mtn Lake because of their secluded primitive camping where deer often visit and provided a quiet place away from the busy RV sites, however they gave into demand and now have overrun the primitive sites with RV hookups. Very disappointing. But they do have nice facilities, clean bath houses, and a beautiful well taken care of beach. Lots of fun things to do for those with kids.

The campground was very quiet and peaceful. My 25 year old son was the youngest person there, except for 2 hours when 1 year old came to visit his grandparents. Most of the campers are there long term and were gone for the time we were there. We only saw people in about 10 of the campsites. The grass was beautifully cut and maintained. We had a pull thru site by the lake, it had to be about 100 yards long and nicely graveled. There are three small bathrooms around the grounds, that are single use rooms (sink, toilet and shower) one for women and one for men. If someone was using shower, no one else could use bathroom. They were clean but it seems they don’t get used very often by the long term campers. They were VERY musty. My wife would not go in them. The big multiple use bathroom by the entrance was much better and air was fresher. The office people were very nice and drove a golf cart to show us where our campsite was. We would stay there again, but still confused why there were so many trailers and so few people.
RangerVery comfortable and quiet campground. Camp hosts (owners?) and staff are very friendly and helpful. Close to local towns for services. The full hook up RV sites seem crowded, but the electric only sites were spacious and shady. I had a little deck with a picnic table. Even though the land is hilly, almost every site was level. The area where I camped had a single porta potty, but the main service area had clean showers and reasonably priced laundry. Short hiking trails are nearby. A children’s area is available but looked little used.

We stayed here for a couple weeks and hated to leave. The owner and staff are very available and always willing to help. Most sites are full hook up and the bathroom facilities are only for the ones who don't have full hook up. Not a lot of ups and extras, but the price is great including the price for the firewood. And did I mention they are right on the river!! As well as only minutes away from some great views and hiking.
LegendAmy and I spent the Labor Day Weekend in Fayetteville, WV. The New River Gorge area is amazing. We camped at Rifrafters Campground. It is family owned and operated. The owners were great and made a point to stop by our site and see how we were doing. The campground is clean, well maintained and conveniently located. It is only about 7 minutes from the New River Bridge welcome center.
There were several long term campers, sites were very small and close together. Fire ring and picnic table ended up under our awning. Water, electric and cable service and a few sites had sewer. Campground WiFi was weak at our site (#27).
While this was a positive stay, we prefer State Parks versus RV campgrounds.

Chief Logan has a lot of interesting things to see, including an outdoor animal exhibit, a lodge, a pool, a theatre, and a museum all close together.
Our site was full hook up and very level. There was creek nearby and walking paths all over. We went over to the lodge and was able to swim in the pool and hot tub as part of the price of our campsite. There was solar event with super rare aurora light show for this part of the world while we were there.

We picked this state park for a week long stay while we were in the area exploring the New River Gorge National Park. Since we were traveling in the summer and brought our dogs along, we needed a spot where we could leave our doggos in a safe and air conditioned space while we explored. We stayed in cabin 14 which is one of two Vacation Cabins. It had four bedrooms and two full baths along with a nice living/dining area and kitchen. There was also a lovely covered front porch as well as a simple charcoal standup campground grill and picnic table in the yard. The cabin was incredibly clean and well maintained.
The grounds are also quite large and lovely. The staff are also friendly and attentive. We enjoyed several of the hiking trails and other features like the historic Grist Mill. There were many other amenities that we did not utilize but were well kept. There was a playground, group picnic area, tennis courts and a-plethora of other lodging options. From tent sites to RV hookups and other types of cabins varying in luxury. The campground also has a coin operated laundry facility that we used during our stay.
For some reason I totally forgot to take pictures of the actual cabin! OOPS!
TravelerSpent two nights here, with a full hook up on the edge of the New River. From bumper of my TT to the river was about 30ft. Shade trees and a light morning mist on the river made a beautiful sunrise.
Note, the drive from Rt 19 to the campground is 8% grades both uphill and down, with twists, turns, and practical uturns with my 35ft. Fun for me, not for my wife lol.
Definetly will come back. It's about a 35 minute travel from Battle Run NPS area which has a great lake to swim in.

We stayed here to smoke test our new camper trailer and had a great experience! Relatively small and deep within the state forest, you'll start to wonder if you passed it by the time you get there, but keep going and you'll eventually arrive! The staff is finally, the campground well equipped, and the bath house was clean, though it could use a coat of paint inside.

John’s single site RV camp was exactly what we were looking for in our tiny camper for a late night arrival. The site was right next to the road, had electric, water & sewer hook-up and was easy no hassle camping. We can’t say enough about our host, John. John was so kind and accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. He even left us firewood and a hospitality box with water, snacks & fire-starters! The site is right in the middle of our adventures at Beckley Coal mine tour & rafting at New River Gorge! Vey Affordable, everything we needed and super nice host!
RangerNice campground, RIGHT ON THE RIVER. The spots not directly in the river ain’t but a stones throw away. The spots on the river are darn near in the river lol. It is really cool being that close to the river.
It’s right off the main road, no one should have any trouble getting back there and in their spot. The have a couple spots for big rigs, 5th wheels. $34 for full hook up isn’t bad.
I didn’t but there has to be some good fishin to be had there. Lots of current and they have some pictures posted of some pretty nice catches, though I didn’t pay to much attention to the dates of those pictures.
The office/store doesn’t have much. I can’t comment on the facilities. They are locked with a key pad and only available to campers without their own restroom, some covid policy stuff.
I just spent the night here passing though on my way home. I did make a reservation but there were many spots open. I believe a reservation is required but don’t quote me on that.
The sites are gravel, or at least the patio area is. It was raining off and on and was pretty muddy in spots. My camper isn’t very big so I put my passenger side wheels just on the edge of the gravel patio so my entry steps wouldn’t be in the mud and I was nearly level, side to side was good, only needed a small adjustment front to rear.
It’s down in a valley with mountains on either side. There is a train on the other side of the river. There were some geese and ducks congregating in the water near my camper at night, was pretty cool to see so many in one area.
There is a waterfall across the street and a nicer one just down the road. I have Verizon and had 4 bars cellular signal and was showing LTE but it was incredibly slow if it worked at all. I would visit again for sure.

It's rare to find free RV camping, especially sites with 30 AMP electric hook-ups! The City of Saint Albans has a roadside park with three RV sites where you can camp for 2-days max in a 14-day period. The sites are first-come, first-serve, with donations encouraged. Sorry, no tent camping....
Each RV site has electricity, a picnic table, and a trash can. There's a sewer dump site nearby with drinking water available. The public park restrooms offer flush toilets, but no showers. There's a nice picnic shelter and a huge playground with some handicap-accessible swings. A shopping center is directly across the street with a grocery store and other amenities.
This park also has a public boat ramp which is part of the Port of St. Albans. The ramp gives you direct access to the Kanawha River which is primarily used by coal barges, speed boats and vintage paddle wheelers. For kayakers like me, you should bare left at the bottom of the ramp and head toward the Coal River where you can enjoy a nice, peaceful paddle without the fear of being swamped or crushed. BTW, St. Albans is home to the annual Yak Fest, mid-June, where participants in the Tour de Coal gather to enjoy live music and local eats after a 12-mile float.
A little historic trivia. George Washington owned 2,000 acres in the Kanawha Valley, including what is now the City of Saint Albans.
The main drawback to this roadside park is that it's butted up to MacCorkle Avenue, which is a busy roadway, so I'd describe this as urban RV camping. On the plus side, you're 15-minutes from the capital city of Charleston, WV, which is worth a visit to see the beautiful gold-domed capitol and WV State Museum.

We have stayed here full time for work and the people who run the place and work here are so kind and friendly. The area is safe and right near the nicest little towns (barboursville and hurricane) which have all the restaurants and shopping you’d need. A few city parks have some decent hiking trails and the state park and ‘big city’ of charleston or Huntington are a short drive. Great park all year with lots of green space, ponds for catch and release, and fun swimming blow up things in the water during summer, cabins for visitors. Very family friendly and well maintained. Another RV park that is right down the road is literally a parking lot, definitely the nicest campground we’ve found in this area for sure! We stayed in 114 and 115 which are RIGHT under the expressway, so can be VERY noisy. The closer you get to the front desk the better for the noise, but the expressway can be very very loud with all the truck and engine brakes.
ScoutWe stopped here for one night as a stop for our trip home to NY from SC. We checked in around 7 pm and they walked us to our site AND helped us back in! This was our first trip with this camper and it was such a help after a day of driving in the rain. The site (19) was roomy and level. The owners were friendly. The playground was great for our daughters to burn off some energy. We would stay here again, especially for a weekend to see the area. We also had full hookups which was great.

This campground is situated on gorgeous Summersville Lake! It has all you could ask for in a campground including RV and tent sites, bathhouses with showers, dump facilities for RVs, and the most beautiful clear lake water!!! No loud noises after 10pm makes it ideal! We had a tent site with a fire pit and picnic table on a point of land surrounded by water! We didn't fish much but the swimming was incredible!

Being only 5 hours from southern Indiana makes this spot a long weekend favorite. The camp store is always well stocked and the snack bar is a treat for ice cream. Buy firewood from the locals on the road outside of the park on your way in. The lake is huge and boat rental is reasonable and relaxing. Pick a spot in one of the Cove camping areas or go full hookup.
ScoutIt has tent and RV camping. The managers are really nice and you’re not that far way from several attractions. Some really great beer places close by as well. Nice a shady too. I’d like to go back and do some exploring around the area. Just be careful with what gps app you use. Mine took me an interesting route that ended in someone’s drive way.

A very nice free CG in New River NP W Va. Probably about a dozen spots for RVs and/or tents. Most are on the loop on the way in. I got lucky and nabbed a spot my Taco and FWC fit comfortably. This spot is last on the way out before exit. Quiet and peaceful near creek/river with boat ramp. The only noise was the occasional train rumbling by across the river.
RangerProbably the best view I ever had traveling in the RV. This place has 39 full hookup sites right on New River. It's small and not much to it but still a nice place to stay. There is a small playground, bathroom/laundry house and an off that sells fishing supplies. You can recycle aluminum cans here (wish more campgrounds had recycling). Main downside for us is Verizon service is terrible. Perfect for the weekend getaway but not during work hours. AT&T is flawless though. It was raining the first few days we were here and it didn't get disgustingly muddy. Neighboring towns to the east are pretty run down but further west are thriving. Camp owners are lovely people too. Would totally stay again. Walking distance to a market that want really stocked well, mostly empty shelves (granted we were also here in covid times so that might be a factor) and a Dollar General/CVS.
GuideLarge campground with four separate loops. The primitive sites are shaded and large. The RV spots are closer together. Some spots have beautiful views of the lake or forest. Golf carts are for rent at $45 a day which is fun. We never felt the need to leave the campground, however, if you forget something don’t rely on the camp store to have it. You’ll need to drive 10-15 to a nearby store.
Bath houses were cleaned very often! We had no issues with the trash as mentioned in an earlier post.

Their bathrooms & showers are cleaned and well maintained. They have an outdoor sink to wash dishes. RV camping as well. A great playground too for the kids. Just bring hammocks or extra padding to sleep. Super friendly and quiet place. Summersville is a pretty lake. Fayetteville is close & a really cute town. Bridge Day happens at a near bye bridge over the New River.

Cons: campsites are right on top of one another (especially on the riverside - there’s a few that are sideways and a little better), it’s gravel and washout a little so when it rains it gets to be a muddy mess, the WiFi is flakey (but if you could connect it was good)
Pro/con: the railroad is right across the river, so pretty nice to watch but at night it can be a little loud if you need silence to sleep.
RangerWe arrived on a Sunday and completely missed the check in at the turn into the campground. If you pass the CVS too fast, you'll miss it. No problem once we did check in. The owner goes around the campground at 430p offering firewood for $5/bundle. The view from our full hookup campsite is hands down amazing!! We're situated directly on the New River in Gauley Bridge. The train does run across the river at least twice daily...at least, Sunday we counted 6 times. Very well kept campground. They had a terrible flood in August that almost wiped them out completely. The owner is rebuilding her foundation next to the camp store. Cathedral Falls is right down the road and worth it.
