Best RV Parks & Resorts near Wayne National Forest

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks surround Wayne National Forest, offering various hookup options for motorhome travelers. Ashland RV Park in Marietta provides full-service sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups for both small and large rigs, with accommodations for big rigs on concrete pads. Blennerhassett RV Park in Belpre features water hookups, sewer connections, and fifty-amp electrical service in an open layout suitable for larger motorhomes. Hocking River RV Park near Logan operates seasonally from April through October with thirty-amp electric hookups but no water connections at individual sites. The RV pads at many of these parks have varying degrees of levelness, as one camper noted: "The RV sites were a bit narrow, but otherwise nice and shaded."

Advance reservations are recommended during summer and fall weekends when Wayne National Forest attracts visitors. Most parks provide sanitary dump stations, with Ashland, Blennerhassett, and Harris RV Park offering on-site sewer hookups for extended stays. Cell service varies throughout the region, with better connectivity at parks closer to Marietta and Belpre. Parks typically accommodate pets with appropriate restrictions, though Stockport RV Park (formerly Katie's Duds and Suds) has a no-pets policy. Pull-through sites are limited at many locations, with most offering back-in spots that may require careful maneuvering. A recent review mentioned: "Sites are very bad for tent camping and not the best for RV's. Back ins are short and most sites have no level ground even for the picnic table or fire ring."

    Hocking River RV Park

Scenic, easy in/out and on the river

Stayed here 4 nights, pull through spots require a little bit of maneuvering with big rig (43’ fifth wheel). There was some mud where camper wheels were situated in the spot (needs material). Fire rings are not near RV but behind across the road on the river. Bath house is just ok - not great, not gross. Close proximity to lots of hiking but Hocking Hills itself has become so crowded… don’t come if you want to get away from people.

    Hocking Hills KOA Holiday

    Great first time KOA experience

We have never stayed at a KOA before and were very happy with this campground. The staff were friendly and professional, the sites were clean, and there were a wide variety of sites to choose from. From primitive tent sites tucked back in the woods to large RV sites with water/sewer/electric/cable hookups. We are first-time owners of a 29 ft Fifth Wheel and got a pull-through site. It offered little in the way of privacy, which was the only negative about the whole experience. Our site included a fire ring and a picnic table, along with all the hook ups. The night we arrived we were too tired to cook so ordered a pizza from the front office and they delivered it to our site. They also deliver wood directly to you. They escort you directly to your site so you don't get lost or go down a one-way road the wrong way. There was a nice little pool, but it wasn't open for the season yet. The shower houses were immaculate. The front office includes a little gift shop, ice cream, and pizza. This campground was also located close (within a few miles) to all the main hiking trails, and about 12 miles from Logan. The little road going up to the campground is VERY bumpy. It's not the campground road, it belongs to the Township, so its completely out of their ability to make improvements. This was only our second time out in our fifth wheel camper so it was a little scary, but we just drove slow and our truck handled it just fine. We will definitely be back to this wonderful campground as we love Hocking Hills.

    Carthage Gap

A real slice of American camping

This is a fantastic camp ground, the owners Chris and Teresa are fantastic people and the grounds are just majestic. Sitting above two fishing lakes, one you can swim in during the summer the campground is peaceful and tranquil and next to some amazing woodland.

The camping ground caters all campers and rv’s and has full sewer hook up and water. Wash houses with showers, toilets and washing machine and dryer is available. You can have firewood delivered daily, you propane refilled and Chris and Teresa are always there to help you. this is on top of the events pavilion where something is always on. A basket ball court and two playgrounds make this ideal for family’s. On season event calendar includes archery clinics and annual hog roast and more.

the grounds are 30 minutes away from the Wayne national forest and Athens and parkersburg. The beautiful Marietta and hocking valley hills sit an hour away. Simply breathtaking

    Hocking Hills State Park Campground

    Great Ohio State Park Campground

Amazing trails walkable right from the campground. Old mans cave, upper & lower falls. Bathroom was clean. Showers were ok. My site 108 was not deep, but was wide. Great for my 5X9 travel trailer, but probably not good for a big rig. Shaded & right near the shower house was a plus.

    Big Sycamore Family Campground

    Great small family campground

We enjoyed our 3 night stay here! Some sites are full hook up, some sites are electric and water, and some are primitive. The dump station is easily accessible if you need it. 5 acres with everything we could need. The owners were amazing. Very friendly and helpful! They had only owned the campground for 2 weeks and were in the process of making several improvements. The shower house and bathrooms were clean and adequate. There is a small playground for kids. It is pet friendly. There is a nice sized pool for summer (we camped in October so it was closed for the season). Located within a short drive (about 10 miles/15 minutes) from everything Hocking Hills has to offer. There is even a restaurant close by that will deliver to your campsite. Kroger and Walmart are within 5-7 minutes driving for supplies. The only downside is that it is close to a highway so at night you can hear the traffic. This didn’t bother us so much but might be a problem for some.

    Burr Oak Cove Campground

    Nice little campsite

Cool little campground. First come first served with no reservations accepted. The sites are clean with picnic tables and fire rings and can accommodate small RVs. There are a couple of vault style outhouses, dump stations and a couple of water stations as well. No electric or water hookups, though. Came on a Thursday and there were only two sites occupied so it was nice and quiet even though there is a bit of road noise from the nearby roads. There’s also an easy 1 mile trail down to Burr Cove proper. The sites are $15 ($10 in the off season when the water is turned off) and you pay at an honor box at the entrance once you pick your spot.

Guide to Wayne National Forest

Wayne National Forest offers RV camping options in a diverse landscape covering over 244,000 acres across southeastern Ohio. The forest spans three separate units—Athens, Marietta, and Ironton—with elevations ranging from 650 to 1,250 feet. RV camping near Wayne National Forest provides access to hiking, fishing, and ATV trails through the mixed hardwood forests and rolling terrain characteristic of the Appalachian foothills.

What to do

Paddling opportunities: The Hocking River provides recreational options for RV campers. At Riversedge Campground, "they will even drop you off upstream to start your trip" if you rent kayaks, making river excursions accessible for all skill levels.

Fishing access: Several campgrounds offer direct river access for anglers visiting Wayne National Forest. "Right on the Ohio River" describes Harris RV Park, where guests can fish directly from the campground. The park provides full hookups for RVs with convenient river access.

Water recreation: Beyond rivers, some campgrounds feature lake activities. "Small swimming lake! Canoe rental and jet pack 'skiing'" are available at Lakeview RV Park, providing alternative water recreation options when not exploring the national forest.

What campers like

Riverside camping: Tent campers particularly appreciate waterfront sites. "Our tent was right on the river and Kelli was the best host ever! On our last day she brought us warm cinnamon rolls and coffee. We enjoyed them by our fire as we watched the mist gently float over the water," reports one visitor about their experience at Riversedge Campground.

Proximity to attractions: Some campgrounds provide convenient access to regional points of interest. "Very close to the nice little downtown Marietta, Ohio but still very rural location," notes a camper about Ashland RV Park, highlighting the balance between accessibility and natural setting.

Value pricing: Cost-conscious RVers appreciate affordable options. One camper noted they found "full hookup on the Ohio River for $25 a night" at Harris RV Park, mentioning "Full hookup alone is worth more than 25 bucks."

What you should know

Road noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. At Hocking River RV Park, campers note it's "right alongside State Route 33, so you hear freeway traffic constantly. Trucks and motorcycles woke me up all night, AND there is a train track right across the river."

Site spacing and privacy: Some campgrounds have limited space between sites. "The sites are very close together—one family moved in late at night practically on top of me—their tent was literally 4 feet from my picnic table," reports a camper about Hocking River RV Park.

Pet policies: Not all campgrounds welcome pets. Stockport RV Park (formerly Katie's Duds and Suds) maintains a no-pets-allowed policy, unlike most other campgrounds in the area which generally permit pets with appropriate restrictions.

Tips for camping with families

Campground amenities: Consider what activities are available on-site. One camper at Hocking River RV Park mentioned "No playground which made camping with kids very uneventful for them," suggesting families should research recreation options before booking.

Tent locations: For families tent camping, site location matters. At Under the Stars Campground in New Marshfield, tent sites feature electric hookups but no water connections at individual sites, requiring families to plan for water needs.

River access safety: Campgrounds along rivers may have challenging access points. At Hocking River RV Park, one camper noted "there really wasn't any way to the river as the bank was about 5 feet up," presenting potential safety concerns for families with small children.

Tips from RVers

Site levelness: Many RV parks in the region have variable site conditions. A review for Hocking River RV Park states "pull through spots require a little bit of maneuvering with big rig (43' fifth wheel). There was some mud where camper wheels were situated in the spot (needs material)."

Hookup availability: Electric service varies across campgrounds. Hocking River RV Park provides "Electric hookup only" with no water at individual sites. Their shower facilities are "provided very clean and orderly" according to visitors.

Check-in procedures: Some campgrounds offer flexible arrival options. An RVer at Blennerhassett RV Park reported "I called when I was on my way, he gave me a space number, and I was able to go straight to it," making late arrivals more convenient.
