The place where the first permanent British colony in mainland North America was founded in 1607, Virginia is a state with an exceptional history and abundant natural attractions. From colonial towns and Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields to various Presidential Homes, including one that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, history is never far away when camping in Virginia. Nature, too, is an intricate part of Virginia’s state identity.


On the coast, you’ll find several state parks and wildlife refuges. Additionally, there are significant historic sites such as Colonial National Historical Park, which includes Historic Jamestown and the Yorktown Battlefield.
Across Chesapeake Bay, a calm wave-less bay, lie popular Cape Charles and glorious Assateague Island National Seashore with its feral horses galloping along the beaches. All around Chesapeake Bay, extensive sand beaches and shallow water attract huge crowds of sunbathers and families camping in Virginia over Summer break.


More inland, rolling vineyards and horse farms characterize the Monticello American Viticultural Area, while the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains to the west has been praised in many a country song. Shenandoah National Park, protecting a section of the Blue Ridge Mountains’ crest, is an outdoor playground for hikers, cyclists, wildlife watchers and road trippers alike. The only road through the park is Skyline Drive, a world-class mountain road lined with trails, campgrounds, a couple of historic lodges, and more than 70 overlooks.


At the park’s southern entrance, Skyline Drive links up with the equally scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Connecting Shenandoah with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, its 469 miles make it the longest linear park in America. From historic homesteads and the Blue Ridge Music Center to viewpoints, hiking trails and waterfalls like Crabtree Falls, its numerous attractions, combined with free access, make this the most visited unit in the entire National Park Service system.

The Best Camping Near Jones, Virginia

**Floating Heaven** is a treehouse site with a cabin. You can sleep in the small, zinc-roof-covered 'casita' or cabin, which can accommodate two adults and two (small) children. Or you can sleep on the deck platform in a hammock (we have one to rent), or a tent (bring your own or rent our 2- or 4-person tents). One platform is 10 x 10 ft. and the other is 10 x 12 ft. Eight trees pass through and support the platforms, situated 21 feet off the ground. A sturdy low-riser step leads you up (no climbing necessary). An acre of heavily forested trees and a meadow surround the site, which is not a primitive campground (i.e, far removed from civilization) but insulated from the town on the ex-urban perimeter. The term, floating heaven, refers to the tree-anchor bolts that allow the platforms to "float" when the tree canopies (60-80 feet tall) move in the wind.

We'll get you going with some kindling and a few logs; lots of down branches and tree trunks on the property for making a nice bonfire, or you can use a small fire pit (e-stove) for a cozier setting. We have tables, chairs, a very slow drip-camp shower (unheated), a biodegradable commode (one just for urinating), and a full biodegradable unit on the ground. There is a charcoal grill for your use at no charge. There is also a 3-outlet outlet for charging up your phones or using other electric devices. Ours is an ex-urban location; you are just two miles from Virginia Tech (5 minutes from Starbucks, and Mexican. pulled-pork, fast food, subs, and Thai restaurants) but you are nestled under a nice hardwood canopy. Its the best of all possible worlds.

**R U L E S**

1). Must arrive before sunset so we can show you around; after all, it is a treehouse and there are safety issues you should be apprised of.

2). ***You will forfeit your reservation if you arrive after 8 p.m without prior approval***.

3). While 6 people is the maximum, the standard book rate includes 4 campers; additional campers over 12 years old should pay an extra $15 a person. Thus far, The Dyrt hasn't figured out how to pay for the fifth and sixth guests so be prepared to pay cash or via Venmo or Zelle.

4). Parents must take care that their children obey the safety features. There are trails around the property that are nicely graded and gravel-covered.

5). All electronics and loud conversation ends after 9 p.m.; sounds carry in the valley.

6). We recycle: two wastebaskets exist for trash and another for recyclables (aluminum, glass, cardboard, plastic). Please carry wastebaskets up and leave on the driveway. We'll separate and dispose of them.

7). A camping ethic to which we adhere is that you take out of the forest what you bring into it; be considerate. This is not a trailer park. Leave trash at the top of the driveway.

8) Don't walk down to the site in flip-flops (to avoid falling on the gravel; it is steep in places)

Floating Heaven

Located on a working small goat farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains where the nights are gorgeous and the sunrises are special. Nature paints the sky here. The trees are tall and the sky is long, It is very quiet here except for the sounds of the farm animals and the sounds of nature. We  are within a 20 minute drive to the FLOYDFEST Site. We are within 30 minutes of the Floyd Country Store, home of the famous Friday night Jamboree, the Little River, Virginia Tech football stadium, the city of Roanoke and the New River, where you can kayak, swim or hike the trails. It is a beautiful drive in the mountains to come to Floyd County, Virginia. The site is very secluded, down a mile long driveway where you can drive very close to the tent site. 

The Space:
A secluded site where the bears can play and yet a 30 minute drive can have you at a Virginia Tech football game, dancing at FLOYDFEST(July) , the Friday Night Jamboree,  kayaking on the Little River, hiking  the Buffalo Mountain Reserve,  or driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is something for everyone around here. Come and find your adventure.

Guest Access:
This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature! 

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed with a memory foam mattress. The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that___s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, and 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs.

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation. 

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

Interaction with Guests:
Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location.

If a Tentrr Host submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the host's property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Other Things to Note:
Please enter driveway by Pynnhaven Path  sign, drive three quarters of a mile, entrance to your private field is on right, marked by signs you can follow. If you have all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive you can drive the field and park by the tent. If not, park in the designated parking area.  There will be a "Park Here" sign and room for 2-6 cars in the field. Park as close to the road to the Tentrr as you can without parking in the road.  ***Please note that Google likes to send you here from Alleghany Spring Road. This leads to a rough mountain road. Ask Google to send you here by Daniels Run Road, which is a paved road
You are allowed up to four people for the regular fee.  After four you can have four more but you must pay the extra $20 fee per person. 
You will be sharing the woods with wild animals.  Bring enough food for yourself and not to share with the wildlife. Please follow all bear safety advice left in your tent. An airhorn is provided for your use should a bear come close. Other bear deterrents will also be provided.
Explore the farm until dark but please be respectful of the privacy of the private home on the property. Leash your pets when leaving the campsite and zip up the tent.

"The Cattails," a Peak Portfolio Signature Tentrr Campsite:

Located above the wetlands & looking down on the beaver preserve, The Cattails is situated near a fabulous, federally protected wetland, the "Stick Marsh," which is not only full of cattails, but also beavers, muskrats, turtles, & many species of wildlife! View it all from this campsites dry, superb flat ground all while overlooking fabulous Dameron Mtn. Running water and outdoor shower are provided on site, as well as drive-up parking.

Our Signature sites come with everything offered through a Tentrr Signature Site as well as some cushy extras most do not: Generous fire wood, small battery fan: 2 battery LED lights, mint scented trash bags (to scare away the critters), matches & lighter, fire starters, sponge, toilet paper, environmentally friendly coconut oil body wash & shampoo, bug spray, charcoal, butane burner, coffee percolator. There is also a small amount of utensils, plates, coffee cups & cookware. Bedding is also offered as an Extra. Each site is also sprayed with insect and bug repellant regularly. For those who need special accommodations or certain requests, please ask--we may be able to accommodate. None of our campsites are ADA-friendly, as they are in the woods, and in the hills around the Falls. We also provide portable, commercial Porto-O-John toilets at the check-in barn, & down near the Falls viewing area, which all guests may use. 

If you desire complete privacy, "The Cattails," is the most private, best family/group option, as it's on relatively flat ground. This site is also overlooking The Beaver Preserve & is located near the kayak launch that guests may use to explore the Beaver Lake & wetland. We offer two, free single kayaks for guest use. This site is one of four through Tentrr, & although this preserve is private and an exclusive property only for Tentrr & Airbnb guests, there may be other campers, fly fishers, or activity going on elsewhere by the Falls or on the land, as we are an active nature preserve. Most guests hardly see each other, nor are campsites visible from each other, but you do not have complete unfettered access to the whole property. Your booking only ensures that you have your site reserved not the whole property. The property is open only to reserved guests, so there are no crowds. 

Depending on the weather and vehicle, you normally drive within yards of the campsite. In a two-wheel drive vehicle you may wish to park by the entrance in our designated area.

Sleep adjacent the calming sounds of a waterfall! Explore one of the rarest caves on Earth! Or, view from your deck the superb wetland, called the Stick Marsh, an active beaver preserve & federally registered palustrine wetland! Or, just walk to the Falls! It's a stellar campsite nestled on mineral rich, flat ground overlooking iconic Dameron Mt; this site may not be directly in front of the Falls, but it's in the heart of wildlife & nature--with full privacy! Accessible directly from your vehicle. It's like being in your own private world...but be careful, you're near the cave, so if you can find it... watch your step!

Upon arrival you will see a check-in barn. Check-in is contactless, & there you will find information to be read, a wifi hotspot, & additional camp supplies for purchase. Sign-in the guest book, fill out our waiver, & then you may proceed directly to your campsite. 

Please arrive whenever you like, so long as it is after 3 PM; checkout is at 11:30 AM. Beau is often around the property, & will stop by to greet you, & answer any questions--usually after you've arrived at your site, & sometime in the late afternoon to early evening. You are welcome to arrive earlier & stay later, provided you ask, & we don't have back-to-back bookings. 

Please put our address, 1100 Kanawha Trail, Covington, VA 24426, into your GPS before losing service or leaving home, as our entrance is on a seemingly hidden, & often missed curve. 

There are two black signs on white fencing that say "Beaverdam Falls" on each side of the driveway at the property entrance. For reference, our airbnb rental, The Earlehurst Cottage, a white craftsman-style home and it's white 3-bay barn is directly above the driveway entrance on a hill. Look for the sign "1100 Kanawha Trail" on the side of the road, immediately next to the property driveway.

ADVISORY: Running water is available on the Property, as well as a full kitchen & bathroom in the communal space, Bull Pine Camper Club Trailer. You will always have the 5-gallon water cooler provided with all Tentrr sites. 4x4 is required during snowy & heavy rain conditions; guests can always park at the check-in barn, & walk to their sites if needed. All sites are about 7-minutes at max from the check-in barn.

Nestled in the Alleghany Highlands of the Southern Valley of Virginia, Beaverdam Falls is an historic series of waterfalls at the headwaters of Dunlap Creek and serves as the terminus for Sweet Springs Creek. Surrounded by the verdant George Washington National Forest, our portion, the Upper Falls, consists of a constant waterfall of around 40-feet in height and numerous beautiful cascades peppered throughout our creek. The 60-acre private tract of unparalleled Virginia countryside will simply amaze and delight.  Sweet Springs Creek decorates our picturesque private property, and serves as a long trout stream of calcified rock, chalybeate water, and ancient beaver dams. Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in our creek and swamp, called the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! They do bite! Beaverdam Falls is also home to an active lick for wildlife, and one can also stubble upon various small ponds and creeks that trickle out of our mountains. The rich biodiversity of the land also includes a gigantic sulphur cave that is as rare as the falls are beautiful. Beaverdam Falls are notable for not only the clear blue water, but also for the lore that surrounds their history. Gazed on by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor during their visit to America and fished by the likes of Robert E. Lee and even perhaps Thomas Jefferson, many notable people as well as local inhabitants have enjoyed the Falls for centuries during their visits to the famous spring resorts in the neighboring area. We have only one question: Will you be next? Whether you are just looking to relax in front of an outstanding waterfall, hike in the hardwood forest, swim in the creek, or just to gaze at the celestial stars in stunning black clarity, Beaverdam Falls will not disappoint!

The "Top of the Rock" campsite is situated on amazing ground! It's situated just above the largest waterfall on fabulous high travertine rock, but tucked away far enough to still retain privacy and seclusion from the main viewing area below, which is just a short walk down a gravel trail.  The rope bridge is also just a stones throw away. This stellar site has a full frontal view of the main water and creek basins below but is not right on top of the falls, so as to be too loud or too visible. And for the most part you are nestled under shade trees and are at the best crossroads on the property to take advantage of all the views and sites. Running water and outdoor shower are provided on site, as well as drive-up parking (4x4 recommended; 2x4 vehicles can park at the check-in barn if desired).

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

Interaction with Guests:
Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location.

If a Tentrr Host submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the host's property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Reservation Modifications/Cancellations: Please note the terms of the cancelation policy as they are outlined in your confirmation email. Your Tentrr Host is unable to change or cancel your reservation on your behalf, and they are unable to waive any cancellation fees (if applicable). If you have any questions regarding modifications to your booking, please reach out to Tentrr Customer Support.

MUST READ BEFORE ARRIVAL: 

Upon arrival you will see a check-in barn. Check-in is contactless, & there you will find information to be read, a wifi hotspot, & additional camp supplies for purchase. Sign-in the guest book, fill out our waiver, & then you may proceed directly to your campsite. 

Please arrive whenever you like, so long as it is after 3 PM; checkout is after 11:30. Beau is often around the property, & will stop by to greet you, & answer any questions--usually after you've arrived at your site, & sometime in the late afternoon to early evening. You are welcome to arrive earlier & stay later, provided you ask, & we don't have back-to-back bookings. 

Please put our address, 1100 Kanawha Trail, Covington, VA 24426, into your GPS before losing service or leaving home, as our entrance is on a seemingly hidden, & often missed curve. 

There are two black signs on white fencing that say "Beaverdam Falls" on each side of the driveway at the property entrance. For reference, our airbnb rental, The Earlehurst Cottage, a white craftsman-style home and it's white 3-bay barn is directly above the driveway entrance on a hill. Look for the sign "1100 Kanawha Trail" on the side of the road, immediately next to the property driveway.

ADVISORY: Running water is available on the Property, as well as a full kitchen & bathroom in the communal space, Bull Pine Camper Club Trailer. You will always have the 5-gallon water cooler provided with all Tentrr sites. 4x4 is required during snowy & heavy rain conditions; guests can always park at the check-in barn, & walk to their sites if needed. All sites are about 7-minutes at max from the check-in barn.

Ever wondered what it would be like to camp out in a field that feels like a pristine golf course set in what feels like a National Park?. You'll be amazed at not only the high-end nature of your surroundings, but also at the diversity of your surroundings: picturesque mountains, clear blue creek water, waterfalls & cascades, as well as fantastic wildlife & views of the Beaver Preserve. This site is REALLY in the middle of it all. Every site on the Property has its unique qualities, & a certain theme in its surroundings, but the location for Sweet Springs really is in a league of its own. Come stay here & you'll see why. This site is located below the Falls, next to the Creek, and is situated next to a gorgeous, gigantic Osage Orange tree, under which you'll find the picnic table, & plenty of shade. You are also steps away from our creek bridge. The Space:
Relax in one of the most gorgeous settings around, right at the "North Fork" of Sweet Springs Creek, & just below in direct site of the Falls & Upper Cascades! Here, you are surrounded by mountains, a waterfall, an undulating creek, picturesque cattails, cascades - Here, you really are in the middle of the magic. What else could you ask for in a campsite?

Guest Access:
This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature! 

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed with a memory foam mattress. The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that___s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, and 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs.

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation. 

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

This site requires a 4x4 or AWD vehicle to drive up directly to the site. If you do not have one, we're more than happy to escort you down & your stuff via golf cart at check-in & checkout--just ask! Running water is available on the Property, as well as a full kitchen & bathroom in the communal space, Bull Pine Camper Club Trailer. You will always have the 5-gallon water cooler provided with all Tentrr sites.

Please do not climb any of the Travertine-Marl rock formations around the Falls or in the basins around them; due to the lack of stone around the Falls, the mineral rock--under constant adaptation & change as with the water--it can be very brittle, unstable, & dangerous. 

Abide by the swimming rules as posted. 

We ask that you also do not damage any plants, carve your name into any trees, or carry any animals out with you! 

Bring good shoes for treading water: you'll want to LIVE in the creek! But, be careful, the mineral rocks are slippery and watch for the waterfall and creek ledge! 

No fires outside designated areas, & no foraging.

Chantilly Farm RV/Tent Campground & Event Venue

## Overview

Caldwell Fields Group Campground is actually two separate fields adjacent to each other. George and Milton, each provide group camping and can be reserved together or separately. They are great for groups who prefer old-fashioned, rustic camping who require few amenities. 

## Recreation

Craig Creek meanders along the edge of the fields where visitors can enjoy splashing and relaxing in its cool waters. The creek is also stocked with trout, providing good fishing opportunities for visitors. 

## Facilities

Caldwell Fields provides two fields that may be rented separately or together. Each field can accommodate a group of 50 or less people with space for up to 20 vehicles. Groups may choose to rent them together accommodating a group of up to 100 people and 40 vehicles total. Each field has an entrance gate, and they share a vault toilet. There is no potable water, no hookups and no trash collection. State Highway 621 to Caldwell Fields is unpaved.

Located in a narrow valley and flanked by National Forest lands, the two large grassy fields are bordered by large shade trees.
