Tight, but beautiful

Map coordinates not accurate; follow other reviewers’ directions

Scoped this out but a bit too narrow/rutted/angled for our small 20’ trailer; amazing for tent and van camping

On a ledge so beautiful views but visited on a windy day and it was wild up there

Solid spot with a seriously great view

Magnificent view! As a couple people have said, pull a sharp right at the top of the hill. Easy to get to with 2 wheel drive when dry. Pretty tight turns between trees further back in the site where the big view is. Flat ground could be tough to find with a long vehicle or trailer. Bit windy today, it’s relatively exposed.

Awesome view

As with all prior reviewers, we turned right (sharp right) at the top of the hill. Multiple sites with two on the edge. No one here. We stopped at the visitor center and got a free permit. You're right on the border of GSE, and if you slip up and camp on GSE land without a permit, it's a hefty fine. It is easier to stop and get the free permit. Because of the bad weather, the Rangers recommended we go no further than the top of this hill, even with 4 wheel drive (which we have). It's called slick clay up here when it rains. The road up is passable without 4 wheel drive if the weather is good.

Updated note: there are probably 20 sites back here. Despite this, we had a group come camp right next to us and then a van pulled in very close as well. Everyone needs to remember boondocks g edicate....if there are open sites, spread out.

Very nice not far out of Cannonville

Agree with other reviewer. Turn right at top of the big hill before you get to the waypoint. There’s a bunch of sites in there. Two bars of 5G on TMo and a sweet view.

Great dispersed camping with a view

Took the advice of the one other review of this area and was worth it! Turned off the road at the top of the big hill instead of driving further and there’s so many spots to camp at. Some right on the edge with a great view. Even with one other camper here it was really quiet. Has full cell service too.

Do I need permits to camp at FS500?

A free permit is required for camping in this area. You can obtain one at the nearby visitor center.
