The sound of the Taylor River carries across the highway to One Mile Campground, a drive-in Forest Service site in Gunnison National Forest that accommodates everything from tent campers to rigs up to 98 feet. Sites are spaced at a comfortable distance from one another, and multiple reviewers note that the campground stays notably quiet even during peak summer months, which is somewhat surprising given its position directly off the highway. Some road noise does carry through, particularly at certain sites.
Electrical hookups are available, a rarity at national forest campgrounds in this area, and reviewers with trailers have found the setup works well. Pit toilets are maintained to a high standard by an on-site host. Water is accessible at a faucet near the restrooms, though not at every site. The campground sits across the road from the Taylor River, which draws anglers and paddlers throughout the season. Rafting, kayaking, and fishing all happen within easy view of camp.
"Awesome campground if you love to raft or fish," notes Stacy, who also found the stargazing strong on a late August visit. The towns of Almont and Gunnison are close enough for resupply runs without being so close that the setting feels suburban. Campers who want a quieter or more remote configuration along the same corridor can look at Taylor Canyon roughly half a mile to the west.
