Stormy Night in a Historical Park!

Arrived here just before a big thunderstorm rolled in.

But it was super cool to watch as the lights of Houston illuminated the sky across the bay.

Can camp for up to 3 nights maximum with $10 permit from the courthouse down the street.

No utilities, but large open camping area near fishing…

We park, lots of people here to work

Nice level concrete pads. Very tightly packed together. Had a pool and clubhouse. Very nice clean bath/shower rooms and laundry facilities. Only real problem was the people park on the main thruway making getting in and out with the trailer difficult. We had to wake a guy up to move his truck to…

Tent camping

Nice place for tent camping there is no water bathrooms or electricity. Great place for being in contact with nature. If you are looking to be away from the civilization but at the same time not that far it is perfect.

Very quiet here in the Sam Houston National Forest!

28 campsites! Not too close together either! They fixed the water spigots throughout the camp just recently. Bathrooms get cleaned daily, super clean during the week, but gets crowded on weekends. So bathrooms get kinda overused. The showers are hot! Many places have luke warm, but they turn up the…

Peaceful, Private Campsites

We enjoyed camping at Double Lake.  The campsites are huge and well kept.  I believe all have full hookups.  We had a lakefront site which had a private little path to the lake.  The shore was good for fishing.  There is a trail which goes around the whole lake, and it was such a nice hike we did…

Big sites, no RVs, quite neighbors!

Super roomy sites in the woods, quiet (no RVs, yay!), and easy access to the lake. Stayed two nights on a cross country drive. Did some kayak fishing and a 25 mile bike ride on the state forest / country roads - many trucks but generally courteous drivers who gave me the lane. Trees for hammocks at…

Not the best site for non-motor vehicle users

We didn’t actually camp on the campgrounds themselves as they were quite full of dirt bikers and being two young women we didn’t feel comfortable. We camped along Kelly’s Pond Rd leading up to the campgrounds and had a nice night. Our site neighbors partied all night long (good music though so it’s…

Awesome little slip of paradise.

Deep in the woods and on a nice shallow lake. Fantastic for walks around the lake, playing in the park, and fun trails. Camp grounds are spacious and we'll thought out. Will definitely return, as it was only an hour from Houston!

Peaceful and very relaxing

So this was my first time staying here and I promise won’t be my last! First off the camp hosts were very friendly and informative. The hiking trail although wasn’t very long at around 2-3 miles max were a pleasant walk in the woods and along the lake shoreline. There’s a very nice boat ramp toward…

Into the woods

Stubble field has always been a nice fall/early spring campground for my family of 3. The heavy thicket forest inhibits breeze so the area can become very muggy and humid in the summer as could be expected. The campground is very well developed with identifiable tent pads, but usually quiet and not…
